Our room was not cleaned, breakfast buffet was really lame, and we couldn't get sleep because the next room was filled with noisy people. We called the front desk twice to inform him in hope that he'd ask them to be quiet. However, they were still noisy and cell phones kept ringing. We then called the front desk again and asked to be moved to a different room (at 4 in the morning!!). We couldn't enjoy our vacations for the next couple of days because we were just so sleepy....
Hotel's lobby was nice, location was alright, but the room was just okay. I don't think it's worth the price.

Major housekeeping issue...
from A TripAdvisor Member
If there is one thing I CANNOT forgive a hotel for is body hair left over from the previous guest or housekeeping. Our room had a unusual amount of left over body hair and believe me when I say it was NOT ours. The bathroom floor, bathtub as well as the bed had hair. It was simply gross. We arrived late at night(11pm) from a long, long flight and didn't have it in us to move to a different hotel or change rooms. We also had a toddler with us which made it difficult to move. Anyway...we figured the rest of the rooms where most likely in the same condition so it wasn't worth the move for a quick one night stay before joining our family in the keys. We booked this room for $75 through price line and thank God. I couldn't imagine having paid their going rate of $175. Yikes! Now...on the other side of the review...the hotel is pleasant in its decor. The staff is welcoming and nice and the rooms are of nice size. The furnishings in the room are decent and above average. But we just, just couldn't get over the amount of left over body hair in the bathroom and bed. That just blows it for us! Just don't pay full rate for this hotel and you may do OK. And of course...if you don't mind someone elses body hair around for your stay!
Renaissance -good hotel

Stayed at this hotel post-cruise April 23, 2005. I wish we would have stayed here pre-cruise too. It is a nice place with comfortable beds. It was only a couple of blocks to the water taxi, so that was nice too. Nice pool with beautiful Florida palm trees. I would recommended giving this hotel a try.
Good for cruises.

The lobby and hotel pictures are accurate. Pool picture a tad bit misleading, but still a nice pool. Very nice rooms. Had no towels in room, left msg on housekeeping line, never got any. We just used pool towels. Location is greate, literally across the street from Port Everglades, don't pay for a taxi, just walk - unless you have too many non-roller bags. We walked out of hotel, down to Las Olas Blvd, by the beach, and back. Very nice walk. Will stay here again if taking another cruise out of Port Everglades.
Great Stay - Booked 4 Star Through Priceline
from J Bellenger
We stayed here one night before heading down to Bal Harbour. Needed to stay one night before we headed South and I booked this room the day before on Priceline. Chose a 4 Star and went with a very conservative rate and got it!!!!! Saved about 150 off the cheapest rate I could find on the internet including the Marriott site. It was my first try at Priceline and even though I have heard and read horror stories it was a positive experience for me this time. I have stayed in Renaissance before on business and it appears to be adequate for both business and leisure travelers.
The location of this hotel is great - very convenient from the FLL airport and very convenient to the beach and Las Olas Blvd. My wife and I got up the next morning and jogged across the causeway. It is very close to the port so it would make a great location for a pre - post cruise. There are several restaurants around the area. All in all it was a great stay - even for the first night of our honeymoon........

Great customer service

We booked 2 rooms for 4 people, one with a king bed , one with double beds, in Jan. 05. When we checked in only one room was ready. The front desk said that there were only king beds available(there was actually a room with double beds available but it had been recently painted and still smelled of paint) so one of us would have to sleep on a cot. I asked them to see what they could do for us since I and my girlfriend had no problem with our king bed but the two other guys we were traveling with did not want to sleep together. I told them that we were going out to dinner and to look around a bit and we would be back later. We put all the luggage in the one room. When we came back, around 8:00 PM, I asked if they found a room with double beds for the two guys with me. The front desk said no, but give them a minute. Louie (I think that was his name) the night manger came over and offered us the Presidental Suite (if we promised to be out of it by 10:00 AM the next morning) and a $50.00 voucher to the bar. We were very happy with that arangement.........Rooms were clean, property was clean, beds were comfortable........Chain in toilet broke, I called the front desk and someone came to fix it right away.........Problems occur it's the way that they are handled that are important, the staff did a great job and I will definatly be back.............Louie thanks alot
Great property but more of a business hotel
from PHXroadwarrior
I travel for a living and stay at Marriott properties 100+ nights a year and am a frequent guest at many Renaissance Hotels.
The room and decor were really fresh and inviting, and the room quite luxurious. It was an above average Renaissance by far, and a good example of how nice the newer Renaissance properties are.
The downside is that the pool is small and the hotel is sandwiched on an awkward little piece of property, so it is definitely not resort-like. It seems more like a business hotel. The beaches are a bit of a drive.
The parking was a terrible annoyance, mandatory valet at $12/night seemed like a ridiculous ripoff to us.

Gret place for a pre or post cruise stay
from sgirl
My fiance and I stayed here for our pre-cruise night. We arrived early and were able to check in at 1:30. The lobby was very comfortable and we enjoyed relaxing here with coffee and the paper on the morning of our cruise. The room was very nice and served us well. We did not eat in the restaurant rather we walked down to Waxy O'Connors for a few pints and then ate next door at Bob's Steakhouse. The water taxi was a close walk and the Walgreens across the street was great for last minute items. The staff of the hotel was very nice. The only negative was the shuttle to the port. The conceriege told us that at $4 a person we were getting a much better deal than a taxi. We agreed and while waiting for the 12:30 shuttle we were told that we were being combined with the 1 pm shuttle that had a bunch of people going to the port. we were anxious to get on board our ship so jumped into a taxi and got to the port in five minutes for $3.50. It was raining while we were in town, but we did use the exercise room and during a break in the rain even went in the outdoor hottub and took a few laps in the pool. All in all a great location for the port, but next time I'd rather be closer to the beach maybe.
OK on average

A generic hotel in a mediocre location on a busy highway a couple of miles from the beaches. Pool is small and non-descript, rooms are plain.
On the other hand, staff is friendly and courteous, and the hotel is clean and well kept. They do the best they can with the hand they were dealt.

Great Hotel!
from seacruiser1
We used this hotel for our pre-cruise stay. The lobby was lovely and our room was quite comfortable. The bed had nice linens and and the room was done well. I can only say positive comments about the staff. We had VERY courteous service. The cocktail bar turned into a coffee bar in the AM and it was lovely to sit by the pool in the morning and sip our fresh coffee. We liked that there was only a short walk to the water taxi and a Walgreens across the street for those last minute items.
Top Local Tips for Fort Lauderdale
Valet service costs more but... you get in and out privileges, but with self park you don't. Besides, you can leave your car and walk to most places.
Bistro 17 You must have the TAPAS appetizer and the Duck entree....amazing
Water Taxi Take a ride on the water taxi! Ride all day for $11 pp/$9 for seniors. It's a fun way to see the Intercoastal and a great way to get to Las Olas.
