Historical Traveller Reviews of Hampton Inn Fort Lauderdale Airport North Hotel

Good place for overnight before cruise

from VacationLoon
Seven of us stayed at Hampton Inn North prior to Royal Caribbean Cruise on 4/2. Hotel is adequate and provided all that was promised - breakfast, free shuttle, and close to airport and cruise terminal. Pool was nice. Area is not so good, but then again you are near the port. Only complaint was the recommendation made by the hotel for dinner - Rendezvous on Marina Bay Dr. The hotel must have a deal with the restaurant. Food was ok, but service was beyond aweful. Place had a two piece carioque band that was loud and not real good. We had a new waitress that failed to put in our order. We found this out after asking her what the problem since we had waited about an hour. You would think that the owner/manager (who was working that night) would have offered us something in return, but it did not happen. We asked to speak to the manager and he/she did not even stop by the table to apoligize. Bad service results in bad reviews. To add insult to injury, we had to wait about 40 minutes for our shuttle to take us back to the hotel. No cabs in the area. Advice to cruisers who use Ft. Lauderdale port... stay away from Rendezvous Restaurant.

Great place to stay

from Stylebook
After arriving in the airport, we called for our free shuttle. Be aware that there are two Hampton Inn-Airport locations, and be sure to choose the number for Hampton Inn-Airport North when using the hotel courtesy phones. The van took awhile, but the driver was extremely helpful and friendly, giving us a guided tour along the way and helping us to locate a church we were looking for. We arrived too early for check-in, but the front desk allowed us to check out bags to be stored in a secure room so we could take take a taxi to the beach. The taxi cost $15-$20 each way. That is pretty standard for Ft. Lauderdale during spring break, so be prepared. There is a small shopping plaza next to the hotel with almost anything you might need, including local food and a Subway. Do NOT eat at the dirty McDonald's restaurant on the corner! Our room was clean, spacious, the beds were comfortable, and the heater/air conditioner was working properly and not too noisy. Beware of the "free" shuttle to the cruise port. They can only take the first people who sign up. We were lucky to be some of those people, but others had to pay a taxi to get to the port. There is a free internet station in the lobby and the breakfast was very good, including hot food. The staff at the hotel was available and very accomodating. Taxis arrive frequently.

Great Hotel

We just returned from our 1 week cruise on the Star Princess in the western Caribean, which was wonderful. We stayed at the Hampton Inn Airport North the night before we sailed and found the hotel to be quite pleasant. We were picked up at the airport by the hotels van (it has pink flamingos on the roof, you can't miss it). The driver was very nice and gave us some good information for dining options and showed us were the cruise port was located.
The personnel at the front desk were friendly and our check in went very smooth.
The room was a good size, we had the room with a king size bed with a louge chair and desk. My wife is usually pretty fussy about the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the carpeting in the room. She had no complaints about the room.
The bed was comfortable and had additional pillows on it for those who like that extra touch.
We went out for dinner and had the ladies at the front desk get us a taxi. It arrived in about 5 minutes and took us to diner and the same driver picked us up when we called him later. We had to get a taxi because the hotel van did not go as far away as this restaurant was.
We had a good sleep and had a decent breakfast at the hotel breakfast bar.
We had reserved a ride to the cruisport at 11:00 a.m. on the hotel van, it ended up being about 10 or 15 minutes late, which was fine as we were early arriving for our cruise and had to wait in line with everyone else.
The hotel is located a nice short distance from both the airport and cruiseport. The only drawback that we found was that it is located in a relatively commercial area with few restaurants and shopping near by.
All in all, it was a good experience and we would definitly return to stay at this hotel again.

Great Hotel, Central to all

from hardingk
We stayed at the Hampton the night before departing on a cruise from Ft. Lauderdale. The hotel offers a free shuttle to and from the airport and to and from the pier. It is only minutes from the pier and the airport. We had a great room that was in great shape and the lobby of the hotel was in great shape as well. The pool liked nice too! Staff was very friendly and the complimentary breakfast was the basic Hampton Inn breakfast. Free internet worked well; however, it was not wireless. No complaints here, we will definitely stay here again if we sail out of Port Everglades in the future!

NICE job guys! I will go back!

from sammyboy
Stayed on business and found the property to be in great shape and offered a lot at a value price.
24 hour shuttle was very convenient as my flight arrived very late. The driver was also quite friendly and helpful on the AM run back to the airport.
Hint: For those going on a cruise, the hotel offers cheap, extended parking if you stay one night!
I would definitely stay again!

Bring your own pillow

from 1hyplady
We stayed here for a conference being held at Nova Southeastern University. The hotel is in a quasi commercial location. There is a shopping mall within decent walking distance. It is definetly not near the beach. The hotel is a good couple of miles west of I-95. The breakfast buffet was better than some. Staff was attentive and friendly. Traffic along main road (2) blocks away pretty busy as road was being repaired at time of stay. PILLOWS ARE HARD! Worst pillows we ever slept on;bring your own.

I cannot believe all these ratings

I travel to Fort Lauderdale occasionally on business and occasionally for pleasure. I'm preparing another trip now and as I reviewed the Trip Advisor ratings I was stunned to see this hotel rated so highly. It makes me wonder how this is possible. I mean, really, this is a Hampton Inn for heaven's sake. My husband and I stayed here prior to a cruise in Dec/2004 and the experience was not a good one at all. In spite of several phone calls, the "free" shuttle never arrived and so we had to take a cab. Arriving at the hotel, we were disappointed to learn that it's in the middle of nowhere, very close to the noise of the airport and not convenient at all to the better part of Fort Lauderdale near the beaches or Las Olas Blvd. If you're planning an excursion to these areas, you'd better be prepared for at least a $15-20 cab fare each way. We were later told the hotel isn't even considered to be in Fort Lauderdale (very upscale), but rather the rundown little town of Dania (very un-upscale). There is absolutely nothing of interest nearby and very few restaurants. The lobby was an unorganized zoo of people waiting for their rooms and the front desk staff was very curt. The rooms were so-so (remember, it's a Hampton Inn) and ours smelled of stale cigarette smoke, even though we were assured it was a nonsmoking room. The carpet was badly stained and smelled like someone had spilled beer. I dared not walk across the room barefoot. The combination of smells left me feeling more like I was in a Texas roadhouse rather than on a relaxing vacation. The maids had overlooked leaving any soap in the bathroom and we had to request this three times over several hours before finally receiving it. I could add more, but heed the warning: there are far better choices in far better locations, at cheaper rates to boot, and no sound of jet engines screaming overhead. Hampton Inns are Hampton Inns.

Clean, Convenient and a Great Value

from rapbtp
The Hampton Inn Fort Lauderdale North is a great option if you have business near the airport or need a place to stay the night before an early morning flight. This is a super clean property with a courteous staff. There are several restaurants in the area, and the hotel is a short drive to the oceanfront attractions. Highly recommend.

Wonderful Staff! Hotel nice, new, and clean.

I forgot to write this review earlier. We stayed here the day before and the day after our cruise. Free shuttle from airport to hotel. Free shuttle from hotel to port. The shuttle arrived a few minutes after we called from the airport (usually we end up waiting for almost an hour for shuttle at our other stays in other hotels). The shuttle was on time for our departure to the port the next day (also, we usually end up waiting for a long time, even when we're scheduled - at other hotels).
The staff was wonderful. When we arrived the woman at that desk was sooo nice! And the driver was very nice too. We accidentally left our bag at the front enterance of the hotel which contained all of our electronics (camcorders, cameras, phones, etc). We didn't realize it till we woke up hours later from a nap. When we called them, they told us they saw the bag in the front and kept it for us in a safe place, to come and pick it up. They prevented our trip from turning into a nightmare! I am so grateful to them for that!
The breakfast was good (they always are, at Hampton Inns). The hotel was very clean. The rooms are decorated nicely and are comfortable. The bathrooms are a nice size.
I just can't say enough good things about the place. It's a great place to stay.

Oustanding!
