hotel carpet smelled of urine. dirty room. this hotel is old and faded. one night and we were gone. i found a kockaroach running stovetop. old is one thing, dirty is another. there is such a range of reviews here, i am sure the positive ones are being submitted by the hotel. i would suggest anyone to think twice before staying here. should i not mention there were hairs from another guest on my bed linen!

Loved the location, little else

Great location and great size rooms greeted my family and I upon our arrival. Unfortunately that is the only reason to check out this resort. The bathroom cupboard doors would not shut and there was rust on the side of the refrigerator. Unless you open your drapes you can't see due to the lack of lights in the rooms, especially the bedroom. During our stay the restaurant was closed for renovations and the resort did not offer any alternatives. As well, the conceierge was hardly on duty so it was hard to plan activities and find out what was going on. Also, you have to pay for Internet access here and unlike a lot of resorts, there is no express checkout.
Speaking of which, the day we left it was almost impossible to get an elevator as the two small elevators were full every time they stopped on our floor. If you overlook everything and really want a great location though, check it out.

Would definitely stay again! :)

We stayed at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort Hotel & Suites the first week in March '05 and had no real problems at all. My boyfriend and I aren't your typical college students... we were looking for a nice, quiet, comfortable place to stay and found it here.

The hotel was in a good location for a lot of reasons. First of all, there's a bus stop right outside to the left of it - for $1, you can ride the bus (route 11) down to the main beach by Los Olas Avenue. It's about an 8 minute walk from a grocery store, which was awesome to stock up on snacks and stuff because there's a goodsized minifridge and microwave in the room. Also the same distance, there's a really nice souvenir shop, a McDonalds, Denny's, and other little restaurants. We never really visited the beach across from the hotel in the day (went to downtown's beach instead), only to stroll at night.. it was very pleasant.

I wasn't familiar with the area before we booked, so I was kind of surprised when we weren't right on the beach. It wasn't that big of a problem. Sure, it would've been nice to be right on the beach, but we just ended up going down to Los Olas/Sunrise Blvd every day. But for the beach right by the hotel, you have to walk down to the light and cross the street to get to it. Not a big deal at all.

As for the room, room service was very neat and tidy. The floors could've been cleaner, but then again, we were tracking in sand practically every day. The shower was nice. I'm used to hotel showers having weak/useless water pressure but this was perfect and never had a problem with water temperature! A poster below said that you had to "request a plug for the tub" if you wanted to take a bath, but for us, that wasn't true. We had one right in the room. They could use new shower curtains though.

The staff was pretty accomodating. One poster below stated that they never had breakfast because it was all out by 10 am. We often had breakfast at around 9:30 and once the milk is used up or the cereal has run out, all you have to do is go ask in the lobby and they're happy to refill it.

One thing to know, also, is that the hotel provides a SHUTTLE to be picked up and dropped off from the airport. Just give them a call and ask how and it's $6 per person - very cheap compared to a lot of shuttles in the area.

Overall, I'd stay there again. I wish we could go back! =)

Loved The Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort

Just returned from The Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort and loved it. The decor is old Florida with pinks and greens. Location is great. Did an exchange. Had a one bedroom unit with a view of the ocean and the intercoastal. The management keeps the resort extremely clean. Very helpful staff and they helped make our vacation fun.
Looking forward to going back again soon.

worst hotel i have ever stayed in

my husband and i stayed here in february. the hotel is worn out. old and flithy. our room was infested with roaches. i asked them to come up and change the linen and i saw the mattress cover covered with 20 year old stains. this hotel turned my stomach. after the first night i checked out and went down the block to the doubletree. great location. miserable hotel. on a weekly basis, its the cheapest hotel in south florida. you get what you pay for. in this case, a horror. this is NOT a middle class family resort.

Not bad at all

This hotel is not bad at all. Considering how expensive the hotels in Fort Lauderdale are in February and March the $112 a night we paid was great. My room was clean and newly tiled, which is a plus because hotel carpets always gross me out. The staff was very friendly and the maids went out of thier way to clean our rooms while not moving our stuff around. The breakfast I couldn't tell you about because there was never any left by the 10am when I woke up.The beach is not directly across the street as advertised but it's a half a block walk away which is nothing. The beach itself is very quiet, on the deserted side so if you are looking to meet people on the beach don't stay here but if you want to relax it's perfect. The hotel is walking distance to Lauderdale by the Sea but it's a $13 taxi ride to Los Olas Blvd where all the action is. The bus passes by the hotel for only a $1 a ride so you'll have no trouble getting to Riverfront, Beach Place, and Los Olas if you take it. Overall we enjoyed the hotel...not the fanciest place I've ever been but we'd return.

The resort is getting a major facelift

We first bought one week at this timeshare based on price, but have subsequently purchased 3 others and are still looking for more (at the right price). The building is older, but going through the first phase of a major workover. The main elevators are new and fast, and the exterior is presently being repaired and repainted. Many rooms were renovated in the 90s and another major re-do is now being formulated. A sample renovated suite is available for viewing now and there may be a virtual tour soon. We find this resort to be very convenient to our broad interests in So. Florida, with golf, shopping, entertainment, dining all very convenient. The building is one block off the beach, with beach views, or Intercoastal views, from most of its 16 stories. The immediate 1-block radius neighborhood has numerous shops, restaurants and bars, and the Galleria Mall is about 3 blocks away, easily walkable. Convenience, 'at the beach' yet quiet, best describes this resort. The kitchens are complete and rooms are large. Every room has a 'sitting' balcony with a view. The pool is only moderate in size, and seems to be one of the few disappointments, but, hey, the best beach in So. Florida is only a block away!

No beach and not a resort

This motel has a very misleading name. It is a 3 story motel with no amminities, no beach and definately not a resort. The beach is across a 6 lane road and we walked through the Ramada Inn to get beach access. The "continental breakfast" supplies no fruit, yogurt, butter, or bagels/creamcheese. It only supplies food with low nutritional value. It feels more like a Spring Break hotel where college students would stay. Also if you want to take a bath you have to go to reception and request a plug for the tub. Additionally, 4 of the 10 lounge chairs at the pool are broken.

terrible hotel-timeshare

filthy, dirty, simply bad. my family stayed here for a week in early feburary. the hotel is really old and smelly. a recent renovation is already faded. the hotel attracts a mixed crowd. some who like to party till 5 am and then vomit over the blaconies! i wont return. beforwarned.

The "resort" isn't bad. It's not the nicest place in the world (cracking paint). However, there is a beautiful beach less then 5 minutes away, just across the street. The staff is friendly, I go here once a year and can't complain. There is a nice, small, pool, and a hot tub. They have great activities going on all 7 days of the week. Be sure to take the water taxi. Hopefully you'll have the driver who loves to give some gossip about the beautiful sea side homes. I'd reccomend this. It's nice and cozy not the beautiful 5 star hotel that you could have.

Top Local Tips for Fort Lauderdale

Great Italian Food Up the street from my hotel on A1A was this great italian restaurant called Nicks. I ate there the first night with a friend from Boca Raton, and it was some of the best italian food I have ever had. We sat outside on their deck and it overlooked the highway A1A and we could hear the ocean in the background. Very Very nice!

Public Transportation leaves something to be desired. The Broward County bus service is Awful! I started out my journey the day after I flew into Fort Lauderdale, FL from the Executive Airport area. Initially, I called the Broward County transit line and got the route numbers & directions. Then I waited more than 40 minutes for the first bus. When I got off the bus, I waited another 40 minutes for the second bus. This was just to get to the Tri-Rail station that was, probably, about 1 mile from the hotel. The bus drops you off quite a ways from the station, and it is not labelled to show you where to go -- the bus driver didn't know, either. So I got to the station. We waited a long time because there's construction on the tracks and then the freight train actually is the one that owns the tracks so they get first dibs. Then I waited almost an hour to get to the airport, which was where I'd decided halfway through the trip to go to because I NEEDED to rent a car by this time. It was over 4 1/2 hrs. before I got to airport.
