Hated it

from kcribb1
The only good thing I can say is I'm glad I didn't pay for the room! Well, maybe two. It is close to downtown.

The bed was horrible and no doubt the worst bed I have ever attempted to sleep... and I mean attempted! The rooms are not double paned, which should be on the top of their priority list.

Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere.

Good for pre and post cruise stays

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Trader pre-cruise. And were going to stay there post-cruise, but chose to cancel, and made reservations at the Embasy Suites. This hotel had everything the Yankees Trader did not. Free shuttle service to the cruise port, hotel and airport. Free buffet breakfast daily, complimentary drinks from the bar for "happy hour", Many sit-down or fast food restaurants within walking distance as well as an Italian Restaurant in the hotel, many shopping choices within walking distance to get souvenirs or those last minute forgotten items, like 30 SPF Sunscreen. The layout of the hotel was interesting, a balcony off the bedroom faced the Publix Supermarket and a view of several smoke stacks, but the front room faced the courtyard and had a picture window so you could allow natural light in from the front and back of the suite. The beds were a little worn but we were told the suites were being renovated this year and it would include new beds. I will be staying here for all of my cruises that leave from Fort Lauderdale.

Disappointed stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
My friends and I recently stayed at the Embassy Suites in Ft. Lauderdale for a pre-cruise night. There were a few big advantages to staying at this hotel: complimentary airport shuttle; complimentary shuttle to the cruiseport; and complimentary hot buffet breakfast.

However, all of my friends and I had difficulty with the comp airport shuttle and either ended up waiting at the airport for a long time (30 min-1 hr) or having to deal with rude staff.

When I got my luggage in baggage claim and called the hotel, they told me a shuttle would come within 15 minutes which was fine. As I was waiting at the very busy shuttle stop area, I noticed an Embassy Suites shuttle pass by me. I tried to flag the drive so he didn't see me. Since I wasn't sure if that was my pick-up or a different shuttle, I decided to wait another 15 min. before calling since they did tell me 15 min. and that shuttle came by within 10. The lady whom I spoke to on the phone the 2nd time at the hotel was extremely rude and interrupted me when I was trying to explain my situation to her. She immediately wanted to verify that I was standing in the right place, already making an assumption that I had made a mistake which is why I had to wait so long. When I told her I was standing exactly where the first hotel person instructed me to stand, she said another shuttle would come by in 15 minutes. I ended up waiting almost an hour before I got to the hotel, which was only 10 minutes or so from the airport!

It seemed that the hotel only had 1-2 shuttles running even though we saw other hotel shuttles circle around several times during our long wait and other people come n' go while we waited and waited.

Then, I didn't think the front desk person was very friendly either. I told her about my long wait and she didn't even apologize that I had to be inconvenienced in that way. Also, she didn't ask me if I needed assistance with my luggage!

My other friend also experienced rudeness from the hotel shuttle operator and the third friend had to wait a really, really long time for her shuttle even though the hotel told her they would be "right there."

I was very disappointed with the service at the Embassy Suites, which is supposed to be a hotel of some caliber. I have received much nicer, courteous service at Marriotts and Sheratons.

Also, there was only one poor guy working as the valet the next day and we had to wait quite a while for some assistance. They ought to hire more people and train them to be more service-oriented!

I doubt I'd want to stay here again!

People normally pay about $250 to stay here and I don't think it's worth it at all. The rooms are decent and good-sized and the breakfast was excellent, but the service was very disappointing.

Embassy Suites should know better!

t pay full price!

I stayed here using Hilton Honors points in early Feb, 2005. Our room was a bit worn, the bathroom was small and slightly smelly, the balcony was too small to sit on, and although we were on the 11th floor, the noise from traffic was annoying. The food at the restaurant was pretty bad. On the plus side, they happily gave us late checkout, the airport shuttle was great, the pool was lovely and the breakfast was nice. (not great quality food, but alot of it!) Embassy Suites are generally really nice, I would say this was one of the worst I have stayed at.
We did take a taxi to the beach ($6 each way) and also walked to the water bus (took a taxi back afterwards, $4). I would stay here again if rooms were cheap, but if I had payed over $75 I would be very disappoined!

Enjoyed Our Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had the pleasure of staying at the Embassy Suites during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The hotel is within walking distance to the Broward County Convention Center, one of the sites of the boat show, and the staging area for the free shuttles to the other venues. The room was large with a comfortable bed, wet bar, microwave and fridge. However, the fitness room was right above our room, and we often woke at 5 am when people started working out (we could hear the treadmills, etc) - if you stay, do not accept suites 1104 or 1105. Housekeeping also got a bit "forgetful" at times - forgot to give us fresh towels one day, forget to put trash bags in the waste baskets on another. Outside of that, we enjoyed the proximity to great restaurants, and it is a short drive to the beach (parking at the hotel is no problem, and was free to hotel guests). The restaurant is very good. We would stay at Embassy Suites Fort Lauderdale again.

Great Hotel for cruise ship passengers

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were at this hotel for 2 nights. It was a pre and post cruise stay. The hotel has free shuttles to the airport(FLL) and to port Everglades. The airport is 2 miles away and the port everglades is 5 blocks away. The hotel is big- 12 floors with a huge atrium with waterfall and tropical plantings( and ducks ). The hotel rate includes a full cooked breakfast and free cocktails in the evening. There is a restaurant in the hotel and an outside pool with a waterfall. Across the street are restaurants and a shopping center with grocery stores, drugstores, etc. The hotel is on the corner of 17th and Cordova with crosswalks, making it quick and easy to cross the street. The hotel has washers and dryers. There does not seem to be much parking. The fees are 10.00 per day for valet and 7.00 per day for self parking. Our room rate was 118.00 per night. There is a gift shop in the hotel, but we just walked across the street to get those last minute things for our cruise.
The suites were large with 2 separate rooms, a living / dining room with a sofa bed, chair, dining table with 4 chairs, and a large TV. The bedroom has a king or 2 double beds, 2 large wardrobes with a dresser in between, nightstands and a smaller TV. In between the two rooms is a wet bar with a sink, microwave and minifridge. There are sliding glass doors from the bedroom opening to a very small balcony. The doors were very difficult to open, but that was OK because there was barely enough room for one person, much less two. The staff was very attentive and my wife and I enjoyed our stay.

good for one night but...

from A TripAdvisor Member
we stayed here one night pre cruise and 3 nights post cruise. It's OK if you just need a place to sleep but for longer stays I'd look elsewhere.
On our pre cruise stay the room they gave us was all musty smelling and the carpets and sofa were wet with a fan on the floor trying to dry the floor.
They immediately changed when I brought this to there attention.

On our post cruise stay the carpet was soaked again in front of the sink and mini fridge in the room where the sofa is. We put towels on the floor and they stayed there the entire stay. The housekeeper never moved them or told management there was a problem. Room was never vacuumed our whole stay and blankets left on the sofa were never touched either.

This property has a lot of potential but management needs to get this place cleaned up. Carpets very dirty.

Also there was a teen who was drunk, probably from the happy hour, that got sick in the glass elevator. The glass was not cleaned as of our checkout time.

Food and happy hour are nice but I'd rather be in a clean place.

post cruise stays

We stayed at Embassy Suites last August (2003) after a Caribbean cruise.

The hotel itself is fine. It has the typical layout and amenities of an Embassy Suite, and is good for families. Has a nice swimming pool, small but decent gift shop.

The main reason we chose the hotel was the free shuttle to/from the cruise port and also to/from the airport. I can see from the luggage tags of many guests that it was a pretty popular choice for pre & post cruise stay.

The hotel is within walking distance to a few fast food and sit down restaurants.

We didn't bother getting a car for the day. Since the hotel isn't really near any attraction it's not a real great location as a homebase for doing touristy things. We had to walk about 20 minutes along a busy road to take the water taxi near the Marriott, which btw is a great way to do some sightseeing in Ft. Lauderdale.

Overall, recommended for short pre & post cruise stay. Otherwise I think the location is a bit questionable for extended stay for vacation.

Loved the hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a training session. We are travel agents. We absolutely loved the hotel!!

It is beautiful. the lobby is filled with beautiful plants, trees, small decorative bridges, ponds. We were there for 4 days. There was a wedding everyday but one. The lobby is so beautiful it is a perfect background for a wedding.

The pool is also beautiful with a waterfall also. However we were too busy with classes to ever get in the pool. Our room was great. The furniture looked new, it was well decorated. The maids did a great job cleaning everyday.

Being a travel agent I get to see a lot of different hotels. Some hotels I would not recommend to anyone. I believe a bad hotel can ruin a trip.

However I would highly recommend this hotel. The free breakfast was great also.

South Beach

from A TripAdvisor Member
If you want to be able to go all over Broward County, this hotel is perfect for Hollywood access (just down US1, as is Jai Alai for poker), and right onto the 595, an very convenient artery to get to I-95. Anywhere else on the beach and you are looking at a long drive west to get on 95. Real close to FLL airport, too.

Traffic ease aside, the hotel is gorgeous, quite new, I loved the sauna and pool. The food is good and close to great restaurants.

Bottom line: you can stay on the beach, sure... but not at such a nice property that gives great service and puts in a position to go all over South Florida.
