Close to Everything!

Visited Ft. Lauderdale for a second time this year and stayed at the Doubletree Galleria again. I would definitely return.
PROS:
-convenient location:
-25 min. drive from the airport
-5 min. walk to the beach
-staff
-water taxi stops directly in back of hotel
-patio area in back with "mini beach"
-nice heated pool
-across the street from a CVS, Wholefoods Market & a pretty good Chinese restaurant
-next to a nice mall that features, among other stores, Saks, Dillards and Neiman Marcus, etc., and one of the best food courts around
-rooms are a good size, beds are comfortable and each suite has a full kitchen, living/dining area
-rooms with balconies facing the waterway
CONS:
-traffic noise from busy E. Sunrise
-noise from the drawbridge
-occasional loud party boats floating by
RECOMMENDATIONS: When staying there ask for a waterview balcony suite on a high floor as far away from the bridge as possible, otherwise, ask for a city view suite

Never had an enjoyable stay

I've stayed here many times since the location is convenient to the water taxi, beaches & mall. The hotel has been milked dry while the units are being converted into condos. I'm suprised that management allows the units to be so run down when they are trying to sell units. I would buy if not so turn off by the daily management and room condition. Checked in today, no doorman, no valet, just one person for check-in. TV's broke...carpet needs a good cleaning, but will probably jump the water taxi and enjoy the Intercoastal! After every stay I get a Doubletree e-mail to take a satisfaction survey, which I fill out, but nothing changes!

So glad we chose this place!

Just returned from a 2 night trip to Ft Lauderdale and I am so happy that we chose to stay at the Doubletree - Galleria. I booked (or thought I booked) a 1 BR suite, and it turned out to be a 2 BR suite: 2 full bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms (great for two women travelling), fully kitchen with dishes, pots/pans, cutlery, living room and dining room. The room was very clean and the housekeeping staff kept it that way. Wanda at the front desk was absolutely fabulous - she answered our questions, gave directions and made suggestions, all with a smile on her face.

Came to town from Cancun with the sole purpose to shop for clothing and the little things that we missed living outside of the US. The location was great for that, and after a 10 hour shopping binge, our suite was a wonderful place to come home to.

Thanks to the TA forum for some great tips, and thanks to the Doubletree for a great getaway!

After a long trip across the state I checked in late at night at this hotel. The bell hop was "pushy" and would not let me use the luggage cart. When my wife and I finally got to our room it really looked clean and comfortable. There was a lot of noise from the busy 4 lane street outside so tired as we were we didn't sleep well that night even though the bed was very comfortable.

Wonderful Property

I have alot to tell about the DOubletree Galleria Suites. I just came home from spending an entire meeting day there. I went all over the hotel including the hallways,elevators, and the top floors. I did not stay in a room but I did see and check out all of the property. The lobby and staff are extremely friendly!
They helped us out with everything for our meeting. The bellboys were so helpful as well. The meeting rooms are very clean and nice but they will be renovated soon because the hotel is beginning its huge renovation project to turn half of the hotel into a CONDO development called Galleria Condo or some name like that. The top two floors are totally destroyed because of the current renovation to redo the rooms. The hallways of the hotel,currently, are nice but they are quite old. As well as the elevators. The pool,riverside yacht and bar are just awesome. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable, stay....
I would highly reccomend the Doubletree Suites at the Galleria.

My 7 year old daughter and I had a wonderful stay at the Oceanfront Hotel. I would recommend this hotel highly and I look forward to staying there again with the rest of our family.

DOUBLETREE SUITES WAS GREAT!!

Stayed at Doubletree Suites Galleria for one night pre-cruise.
Had a very enjoyable stay. The room was spacious and clean,
chocolate chip cookies were delicious. Staff was friendly and helpful.
The only drawback would be if you have a room facing Sunrise Blvd.
Traffic going over the bridge may keep you awake at night.
Our room was facing the pool and noise was minimal.

Stayed at this Doubletree Hotel March 10-19, 2005. The staff was uniformly helpful and friendly, but the physical plant is in terrible condition. Old rooms, maintenance issues, yuck. The hotel is being converted into "condo suites." For free entertainment, listen to the sales pitch and then tour the 2 models of the suites they are selling timeshares in for $200,000 to $600,000. Unreal!

Good Hotel Getaway

For the money you won't find a better hotel this close to the beach. The DoubleTree Galleria is located on the Intercoastal Waterway. Try to book a room with a balcony that has this view as you will appreciate the morning sun, you will also have a great view at night.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is good, the outdoor patio, pool and jacuzzi very nice. The hotel has free amenities that you would pay for at other hotels. (aka free internet access)
Be aware that the hotel can be noisy on occasion as we are right next to a draw bridge and busy Sunrise Street, however, the upside is that you can check out all the amazing yachts that go by. Another plus is the Galleria Mall (Sacks, Burdines, etc., plus a good food court) and a movie theatre are adjacent to the hotel. This is great as on those rare occasions when it isn't beach weather, you can do some shopping or catch a movie. Starbucks is across the street, as well as a CVS and Wild Harvest natural food store. The watertaxi service docks right at the hotel.
The Doubletree Galleria also has a laundry room located on the third floor for guests. Gotto love that.
I would not hesitate to book a room in this hotel again.

Guest Suites--Great Hotel

Despite renovations in progress, this is a fine property--the only things keeping it from 4* is the lack of stronger services (room service and restaurant just OK, pool is unsupervised with no bar right by the pool). Excellent check-in, nice clean 1 BR suite (a real suite with a separate BR), and outstanding service from all hotel staff. As noted in earlier reviews, the hotel location is excellent, with the mall and shopping center right across the street. Should mention Tommy D's for breakfast--nice deli/diner just a block away. FYI, the renovation is part of a conversion to a resort/timeshare combo; they will be allotting part of their rooms to owners. The new name will be GalleryOne Place by Doubletree.

Top Local Tips for Fort Lauderdale

bonefish grill - also the food court at the Galleria I would recommend the boenfish grill restaurant for dinner. They are open from 4 pm - so not open for lunch. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. We especially liked the crab cakes appetizer, and the chicken lily dinner (chicken breast with goat cheese and artichokes). They have good fish etc. If you have a car this restaurant is maybe ten minutes drive from the Gallery One hotel. There is also a food court at the Galleria next door to the hotel. They have lots of fresh food and healthy options, fruits, juice smoothies etc. They also have a turkey place where you can get a good turkey dinner, complete with stuffing, gravy etc for 8.95.

Water Taxi...only go during high tide and plan lots of time We rode the Water Taxi on a Sunday afternoon. First, don't ride this if you are in a hurry or have a schedule. They have a legal limit to the number of passengers they can take, so if they are full you will have to wait until the next taxi that has space. Our full taxi told people at a number of stops that they couldn't get on. Some people weren't very happy since they had been waiting for a long time. Second, only go during high tide. The day we went there was an extremely low tide so the sea wall was about chest high and people were literally being hoisted out of the taxi. Many of the older people had a really hard time getting out. Also, since it was full and it was low tide, our taxi hit something and we lost propulsion so we just floated while the crew tried to figure out what to do (including checking to see if we were taking on water). The narration about the yachts and mansions on the canals was interesting.

Water Taxis By far the best way to get around and see the sites in Fort Lauderdale. Only $11 for the whole day and they run form 10am to midnight
