This is a very comfortable place to stay. The accommodations are new and spacious. The location of the hotel is right off the parkways and convenient to the airports, however it is not near the excitement of Ft. Lauderdale. It is convenient to shopping and lots of restaurants and even a 24 movie theatre, but all require a car. My only complaint is that it has been under construction the last few times we have stayed here through RCI and this is not fun.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Bonaventure Resort & Golden Door Spa Hotel

Happy at the Hyatt

from NSH07
We were booked into the Hyatt by RCI due to an overbooking situation at their Mizner Place property. We had a very nice 2 room suite, with a door that could be closed so one of us could stay sleeping in a quiet darkened room while the other made coffee and breakfast in the kitchenette. We had a complete set of plastic dishware & utensils and basic cookware and utilized everything to make some of our own meals and reheat leftovers and snacks. We liked the (2) 32" flatscreens and the 2 bathrooms. Lobby and grounds very clean and attractive. Pool areas very attractive. Pool bar quite pricey ($8.75 margaritas) but no one gave us a hard time for walking around carrying our own beers. Alot of staff visible and always busy cleaning and straightening and always a pleasant greeting. Utilized the Chief Concierge for many directions and she (Sari) was always gracious. 24 hour free fitness center was great-- actually stepped up my workouts due to the nice facilities. Did not use wi-fi ($9.97 for 24 hours) and there are 2 pay for use ($5.95 for 15 minutes) public computers in the lobby. Liked coming "home" after a days adventures. Lots of privacy, nice housekeeping staff.

Nice renovations underway

from pb013
This property has recently been acquired by Hyatt and they are spending a good deal of money to renovate. Our room was lovely and in top notch condition. The main building that houses the bar, restaurant, and meeting rooms is very nice. Parking is free. The spa is beautiful. There is not much green grass area on the actual property, although it is right across from a golf course, which has beautiful grounds. This property would not be ideal for those seeking night life, as it is far away from the activities of Fort Lauderdale or Miami. However, for a peaceful getaway weekend, I would recommend it.

Stayed here for 1 night on January 28/07. Due to the positive experiences of past guests, we were looking forward on staying at this hotel post cruise. We paid $199 (included $100 spa/4 coupons for free breakfast). Upon our arrival, we were very impressed with the grounds, lobby and the cascading pool and the Red Door Spa was beautiful. Unfortunately, we didn't get lucky as to other guests that were upgraded to a better room. Our room was located in building #2, it didn't have a "hotel" feeling to it, more like a "motel" as the rooms were situated in 9 different buildings. If you stayed at this hotel, then you'll know what I'm talking about. Maybe we were expecting too much for the price that we paid, if it was cheaper, then maybe it's a different story.

Overall, the location was nice, the area had a "retirement" feeling to it (had the urged to hike up my pants to my belly buttons, put on white slippers and a hat, & crank the A/C up), then we spent 10 minutes looking for the famous flamingos only to find lost swans (they were beautiful though).

The hotel was very close to Sawgrass Mall also. I would probably stay at this hotel again, if it were cheaper :)

Horrible Stay - See my photos

from chantillylane
Although the hotel lobby was nice, you can get extremely unlucky like me and get a room that is beyond substandard. My shower was broken (no handle), I had an unmade bed (no bedskirts), there were unsightly stains on the carpet, my television had cables missing and the entrance to rooms (hallways) unpainted. Although the hotel manager promised a refund, I never saw one. I eventually was moved but frankly, after several calls and waits for fixes, the entire stay turned out to be simply horrific.

t be better

Stayed Jan 22 through 25 for a few days of R&R. Other than being a little slow at check in, we had a wonderful few days at the Hyatt Bonaventure and can't wait to return. Value for the money spent was great. Our room had been recently renovated and was very clean. We didn't hear a peep and slept peaceable each night. All of the staff were most pleasant. The pool was great. Definitely need a car as the hotel is way out in the boondocks.

Best kept secret in southflorida

from my4girls45

the area is nice if you take the time to learn the area. weston town center is not far from hotel it has shops, resturants & coffee shops.
hotel in 22 miles from ft.lauderdale,30 from miami,28 from sobe take the time to enjoy the south florida area, don't worry about where hotel in located. their are so many surprises in this area not located in the tourist book in your room.

people always ask staff where this or that is sometimes it's best to venture on your own. staff don't always know, they work just like some of us. do we know where all the hot spots are near our place of employment. sometimes we do most times we don't

hotel is lovely give it a try u won't be disappointed.

Nice hotel in a quiet area

from 637palmer
Stayed here for a girl's get-away weekend with 4 other friends. Lobby, grounds and rooms were very nice, recently renovated. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite and added a connecting guest room which gave us a "2 bedroom suite".
Tried to check-in early but had to wait for 2 rooms that connected to each other. No problem. Received a call at 2:45 that our 1 room was ready and the other connecting room would be cleaned and available shortly.
The front desk seemed overwhelmed during the afternoon and we only received our other room at 6:30 that night after 4 phone calls and a trip to the front desk. Overall, the front desk was often busy and unsure of certain procedures with the exception of Steven. Our room cards often "expired" and wouldn't unlock our doors, sometimes immediately after walking to the front desk and having them recoded! The breakfast that was included with our package involved the use of coupons that were handed out at the front desk. This involved daily trips to the busy front desk and certain staff didn't know which coupons we were to receive, etc.... just kind of a disorganized system at the front desk, it seemed.

Other than the minor pain of the front desk, the hotel and staff is very nice. We were greeted by several outside staff/workers with a friendly hello or good morning. The golf course seemed busy and there were several meetings going on in the convention section of the hotel. We took advantage of the Red Door Spa with most of the girls very happy with their services. The tennis clinics available were fun and well-attended even with the coolish weather in south Florida that weekend. The pool area is nice, although the pool bar was closed everyday except Saturday when the single bartender seemed harried and overwhelmed with the job of serving lunch and drinks.

There are NO good restaurants nearby ( in Weston). When we asked locals where to eat, we were always steered to Ft. Lauderdale, Hollywood and the rest of the beach areas (30 minutes drive). The breakfast at the hotel was nice and dinner our first night there was fine. Other days we drove to Ft. Lauderdale and had lunch at Coconuts (on the Intercoastal) and dinner at Charley's Crab. Both were excellent. Our last night we drove north to Delray Beach and had dinner at Louie. Louie, Too - very good! We did a Segway tour in Ft. Lauderdale which was an experience itself!!

Overall, I would recommend this Hyatt to others, especially if you are interested in playing golf, relaxing by the pool, enjoying the spa, etc. - looking for a quiet time away. Definitely get a rental car so you can explore farther from the resort. Enjoy!

Beautiful and relaxing hotel!!

from Establo
The room was beautiful and absolutely clean, The hotel is located in a peaceful area with beautiful surroundings. Nice pool and golf areas. WOULD DEFINITELY GO BACK!! had some problems at bar serving at night.

Booked Here for the Orange Bowl

from Vestigial
Our group of 4 was down for the Orange Bowl in January of 2007. Upon arrival, I was told that I would have a room suitable to accomodate 4 guests. When I got to the room, I noticed we had two double beds, a broken shower door and an air conditioning unit that could not be set below 72.

I went back to the front desk to correct the issues and the staff was very helpful and responsive. They gave us a two room suite (that interestingly had the same problem with the air conditioning) instead. In spite of the complications, our room was very nice and the main bathroom was luxurious. The property is comprised of several buildings and our suite was a 5 minute walk from the lobby/restaurant/bar/pool area.

We ate at the restaurant for breakfast both days which offered a decent buffet for about $12.

Also note, the hotel is about a $40 cab ride each way from the airport. So depending upon your agenda, you may want to consider renting a car if you need to travel some around the area. Factor those costs in with the rate you may be able to find for the Bonaventure.

I booked myself at the Hyatt Regency Bonaventure Conference Center and Spa as part of a package. On most websites where I found this hotel listed, it was rated as four star - I beg to differ. We'll start out with the negative and proceed to the positive.

Starting with check-in, it's a little late at the hotel (3:00 pm) if you're arriving early; however, the staff does try to accomodate you by checking availability with the cleaning staff for the type of room that you booked. As the cleaning staff was checking I was offered a room with double beds (with the claim that it was bigger an possibly nicer). The cleaning staff supposedly found a room that was ready and I was assigned the room. When I got to the room I checked it over as I usually do for cleanliness.

In the bathroom, I found unflushed tissue in the toilet (unsure of whether anything else was present) and a floor that wasn't filthy, but needed to be mopped - there was something on the floor that was dried, but could be noticed as something dried that didn't belong on the floor. There were similar stains by the door to the room.

Under the covers on the bed, I found hairs - many - I suspect belonged to the previous guest and some small stains on the pillowcases. Under the bed, I found one Steve Madden navy blue polka-dot shoe.

In the corner of the room, near the window behind the desk, there was a spider's web with small dead bugs in it.

As I was sleeping on the third day of my stay I awoke to a cleaning woman incesantly knocking on my door. She insisted that she had to clean my room first. I told her I was sleeping and wasn't getting up yet. However, she didn't speak english, so nothing I said mattered to her. She entered to "clean" the room, but decided not to change all of the bed linens, just that which had visible stains. This is probably why I found hairs on the initial sheets found in the room.

When I asked whether she was going to change all of the linen - then she decided to do all of the linen, including all of the pillowcases (excluding the shams). There are six regular sized pillows in regular pillowcases, two pillows covered with shams, and one long circular pillow (without a case) - nine pillows in total.

The walls are very thin - my room was one with an attached door. I could hear almost everything said in the room attached to mine (and they said a lot and stayed awake late) and anything going on outside my door or near the outside of my door.

On to the nice things:

There is a nice bar/lounge in the main building.

The room in which I stayed was very nice looking and nicely furnished. There was a 32 inch LG plasma television, a desk, two telephones - one a cordless, and many lamps/lights.

The room had a view that overlooked a pond and the golf course.

Overall, the property, as upgraded, is nice. However, the cleaning staff leaves a lot to be desiered. Due to my experience, I would advise anyone who stays here to check your room thoroughly after check-in and either change your room or ask for it to be cleaned if you find dirty sheets or signs that the room has not been cleaned as you would expect at a Hyatt Regency property. This hotel is a Hyatt in name, but still the former hotel with millions in upgrade in the rooms and property.

If it hadn't been for the cleaning issues, I would have had peace-of-mind during my stay.
