So clean, and very accomadating staff!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just took 3 of my daughters on a wonderful winter get away to this beautiful new hotel! 2/28/05-3/4/05. The staff could not of been nicer or more accomadating! We really enjoyed it! The only negatives of the whole trip was the taxi ride from the airport, IT WAS FILTHY DIRTY!!!!!!!We took a Limo back to the airport from the hotel which they graciously found for us at a discount price! Only 7 more dollars than the taxi! The weather didn't cooperate only 2-3 partly sunny days out of 5, but apparently if a north-easter hits the upper east coast, it does affect Florida as well! I Thank GOD for the sunshine we did have, it felt marvelous to be out of SNOWY Pa. Basking in the sun on the fabulous beach was invigorating! You could see the ocean while in the pool which made the pool seem endless! ! The little ones didn't seem to mind and swam in the heated pool anyway when the sun hid behind clouds! I highly reccommend this resort especially if you want a "family" vacation! It was Chilly and RAINY one of the days so we walked to the Galleria Mall. Very nice Mall! Within walking distance so you don't need a car.

Great place to stay!

Just got back from a girl's weekend at the Pelican and I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay! The staff was awesome and very friendly. Our room, a suite, was beautiful and looked out over the ocean! The beach was clean and the pool and lazy river delightful! We were pleasantly surprised to find out that they served a continental breakfast, and it too was wonderful! Parking is very reasonable. Overall I would highly recommend you stay here! I researched a lot of hotels before deciding on the Pelican, and am so glad I chose it! We plan to return next year!

Excellent!

This is a brand new property so I booked sight unseen and was so happy once I got there. I decor is old Florida beachy with bold prints and wicker. There is an incredible verranda out the back with couches and rocking chairs that face the ocean (spent a lot of time out there). The rooms are lovely, regular rooms are all kings and suites have king and queen beds. Best part is that the entire hotel is non-smoking. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Bar staff is great, and the food is incredible! Not the typical bar food. Since it was so new, the hotel's restaurant wasn't open yet. Four stars from me!

Great Best Western

So bright, fresh and airy. If you can't stand to be without access to fresh air THIS is the place you want.
We had a 7th floor oceanview suite w/king. Our space was quiet and very romantic. There is still construction on the 2 top floors and you will hear some of it, so be aware.
Internet access using the TV screen needs tweaking, it's not easy to read.
Breakfast was okay. Danish and muffins tasted commercially made.
The Galleria Mall has a fabulous eatery.

Customer service is outstanding

I haven't actually visited the Pelican yet, but plan to in February. Due to all of the negative reviews on the old hotel, I called the hotel directly and spoke with, Doug, who was very helpful. We booked our room online and wanted to make sure that we had the new hotel and not the older one. Doug said that it took a day to get the reservation online and to call back the next day, which I did. I spoke to Doug again and he assured me that we had a room at the new hotel, and not only that, he upgraded us to an oceanview room. Now that's what I call outstanding customer service. Previously, we spent hours trying to decide which hotel to stay at, and until the Pelican became available on hotels web site, we didn't know it was open. All of the other hotels that are actually on the beach seem to be old and in need of some major repairs. The reviews from all of the beachfront properties really scared us and we were nervous about staying at the first place we booked, so we cancelled when the Pelican became available. Now, I'm really looking forward to our stay at the hotel and visiting Fort Lauderdale.

One of the best on Ft Lauderdale Beach

The new building has been opened since late 2004, and it is outstanding. Family owned and operated the service is exceptional and the fabulous rooms all have ocean views. This is truly an upscale property. Don't be confused by other reviews that refer to the old building.

Best Western Pelican Beach Resort

from Suzeequew
The hotel was charming. One drawback. They are in the process of building a new addition and it makes for a giant mess all around the area. I originally made the reservations (4 months in advance) thinking the new addition would be completed. Hotel people kept me thinking there was a SLIM chance I would be placed in the new addition. 2 days before my arrival, I was told that the new addition was not completed, but that I would have a lovely room awaiting me in the original structure. Upon arrival it was quite obvious they were nowhere near completion, I found the false hopes they fed me rather disappointing. So be it. The original structure is dated, as is most of the area, but it was clean and we had 2 large rooms...one bedroom and a living room with a small kitchenette. One thing I found odd...we had to ask for cleaning supplies to do the kitchen area ourselves! Their help did not clean that area and there was a notice to that effect. Also, if their staff wound up having to clean the area (dishes, table, sink etc.) there would be an additional charge on my bill! I felt if they thought I had to keep it clean, they could have at least supplied a dish cloth and some detergent to wash the dishes. The room was not cheap...for 4 nights my bill came close to $800.00. But to be fair...we had a lovely stay. The hotel was right on the beach and that was pleasant. I'd love to return, when and if the new addition gets completed, just to see what it's like.

t expect luxury

from Cindylovestotravel
Enjoyed our stay at the Pelican "resort". The people were very nice and helpful with everything. I really appreciated the more personal small hotel attitude as I am used to traveling in large luxury hotels. The hotel is right on a private beach not across the street as most are. We went out early in the mornings and we were the only people out there (the hotel provides chairs on the beach). The pool was very small and too warm so it was not refreshing during the day and it was closed in the evening. They provided a very nice continental breakfast every morning. The room had a fridge & microwave, they weren't built ins in a kitchenette but they were very clean and came in handy!! The hotel at first is not impressive and is small and the resort that they are building next door looks great but because of the great location on the beach, the friendly staff and the cleanliness of everything I would absolutely stay here again.

Loved it, would love to visit again

My wife and I loved this place. We stayed here for three nights around our cruise. It is not fancy, but it had an excellent ambiance. The staff was very friendly. The stay was very comfortable and relaxed.
Within a walk of the strip. The room was very pleasant, and the beach was almost like a private beach. Would stay there again in a heartbeat and hope to as soon as I can again.

t bother going here!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
What can you say. This place was disgusting. It was like they gave up maintaining the old building until the new resort opens in December 2004. Dog poop in the elevator. Moldy bathroom. Bugs in the room. Their web site is slightly misleading. It states that the new building opens in winter 2004. We expected they meant this winter. Of course it really meant winter 2005. Beach was ok, but water was murky due to port traffic.

Top Local Tips for Fort Lauderdale

Rustic Inn The Rustic Inn is not always known by tourists but it is definitely worth the time to go there. The atmosphere is fun and you don't have to dress up. If you have someone in the party who is a vegetarian, they make a wonderful pasta dish which was very surprising for a seafood restaurant. It is a liitle way out of the touristy area but not hard to find with good directions.

getaway Try the buses and don't pay their parking fee that was nuts!!

Recommend for dinner Blue Moon Fish Company - fantastic food along the intracoastal waterway. For authentic Italian - Casa D'Angelo, terrific food and great service.
