After having stayed at the Best Western Oceanside in 2004, I chose another hotel for 2005. I found the hotel had cut back on many things including the "free breakfast buffet" that was worth less than a dollar, to starting to charge for parking, refigerators, and finding things missing from the room after being cleaned. Staff, was unhelpful, and the halls were unairconditioned, musty, and smelly. It doesn't deserve a 1 star rating, My vacation was ruined, and I'd never stay there again. I will however be trying a new hotel this year.

Old hotel!

An old hotel...newly painted...but still old and out-dated; however CLEAN. The bar is small but friendly atmosphere, ditto the cafe. If you stay, be sure to eat dinner across the street at the Bahia Caribe! Moderate pricing..on the water at a marina...ribs, steaks, fish... and very friendly service!

Bad Experience for a Best Western

We stayed at the Best Western Oceanside post cruise arriving on December 31/05 for a 3 night stay.

The location of the hotel is fine, one block from the beach and close to many restaurants and the water bus stop. The rooms were quite adequate and clean with a coffeemaker, coffee, fridge and microwave. You won't find ocean views from this hotel as it is comletely surrounded by the Sheraton Clipper, but after all it is a budget accomodation.

The room rate does include a full hot breakfast which was quite good and a money saver as well, particularly for those travelling with kids.

It may have been that the hotel was short staffed over the holidys but the service was not good. I would not judge a hotel by one incident or unhelpful staff member, but really:

I arrived at the hotel with an abscessed tooth which started the last day of our cruise so I needed immediate emergency dental work. I checked with the front desk for information about a local clinic and they could not have been less helpful, couldn't even find me a phone book when I asked so I could look up a dentist myself. Fortunately we had friends already checked in and were able to call around using the book in their room to find help. Don't know what I would have done otherwise.

The first night of our stay we discovered that the frame on the bed was broken when it crashed to the ground in the middle of the night. It was fixed on the last night of our stay.

Despite numerous requests we were never able to have our room serviced prior to 5pm during our stay, which was really inconvenient. We spent alot of time hanging out downstairs waiting for this to be done.

One other word of warning, the service entrance to the Sheraton Clipper backs on to the hotel. We were awakened several times (3 am) by the sounds of the trash compactor smashing up the hotels garbage and bottles. Request a room away from this location! It is loud.

I have stayed at numerous Best Westerns and this one is not up to their usual standard of service. I will probably look for a different hotel in Ft. Lauderdale next time.

A dump !! Do not stay here - under major renovation

We stayed here for 3 nights early October, we would not even have stayed 1 night if our travel agent could have found an alternative after we witnessed the atate of the place on arrival.

The front entrance, reception, the restaurant and bar were all closed for major renovation work and it looked as if it had been going on for some time. Entrance was via the rear of the hotel and check-in, as well as breakfast, was in room 104 (minus the bed) adjacent to the pool area and terrace, also the chef cooked waffles/omlettes on the terrace for breakfast.

The pool area could not realistically be used due to the regular drilling of the construction workers during the day, they seemed to be renovating specific floors with guests allocated to the other floors.

We could only reach our room via a service elevator and shared it with the construction workers who were removing baths etc. from other rooms.

The room we had was very dark, but this hid the dirt, it was not clean, carpets were old and worn and we suspect they would be thrown away as part of the renovation..but who knows.

Microwave in the room, but it was filthy and unusable and never cleaned.

Who knows how it will be after completion of the renovation but the hotel should never have been taking bookings and should have been closed during the renvovation. We are now in dispute with our travel agent to obtain a refund of our costs.

I just returned from my vacation to Fort Lauderdale, FL with my family. The hotel was a great find. The room was clean and contained a fridge, microwave, tv with cable, and toiletries. The beds were comfortable and the air-conditioning worked. The free breakfast buffet contained something for everyone. The hotel didn't offer dinner but that was fine with us. The beach was within walking distance; the pool was cleaned while we were there and was a nice temperature. The water taxi was a short walk from the hotel and only cost $5 per person all day (I recommend getting a schedule before setting out to catch it), and the hotel parking was only $5 a day. I've stayed at a couple of hotels in Florida and must say this was the best so far.

Great Location with Ocean View

We stayed here April 8-9, 2005 prior to a cruise. Room was satisfactory - good comfortable beds (no springs sticking out per previous reviewer), newly remodeled bath, and balcony with great ocean view (this was a surprise). Small refrigerator. Pool is kept very warm, seems brand new, stocked with water float toys, and there is lots of sun by pool and second floor deck (prior reviewer said sun was limited). Free breakfast, albeit some of the southern stuff (biscuits and gravel, ham & sausage) were too greasy for me (I'm from CA). Beach is sooooo close - walk through nearby Sheraton & rent cots from them. Easy walk to downtown. Found the water taxi too late at night! Half the price of Sheraton. They do charge for shuttle now ($17 RT). I thought it was free. Would stay her again.

Best Western Name

I had to cancel my reservation at the Best Western Oceanside because of a family emergency. The cancellation poliy is 72 hrs in advance, I called about 65 hrs in advance, but they would not budge. I called the next day, just to check, and was told that they were completely booked for the nite of my orginal reservation. I can't prove it, but I strongly suspect that they were able to collect twice for the room.
To make matters worse, I contacted Best Western via their general website and was told that they have NOTHING to so with this property. I don't know how they can use the Best Western name, or if this is true of all Best Western properties. BEWARE when you stay at a "Best Western", I do not think the chain exists as such.
My advice, stay at a hotel where the name can be trusted.

I live in northern NY and have traveled alot. For the price, BW oceanside Inn deserves an A+. The staff was friendly, the beach was walking distance, the breakfast in the AM had eggs, juice, pancakes, waffles, cereal, toast, muffins, sausage, milk, etc.. All was complimentary. The wife and I paid $487.00 last year for the vacation package. 2 round trip tickets with southwest airlines from albany NY with 2 nights hotel at BW oceanside Inn. For the price, I didnt expect much but we were pleasantly surprised. They picked us up at the airport, answered all our questions at the hotel, the room was clean, the breakfast was great. For the price, the place is outstanding. We had a great time. If people want a great ocean view or to stay at a hotel on the ocean, then pay the extra money. People cant expect a five star hotel for what it costs to stay at the BWO Inn. The beach is minutes away by foot. So if you are rich, stay at a high price hotel. If you are average income then book a room at the BWO Inn. I am a Registered Nurse at a correctional facility and my wife is a corrections officer. I feel if we say it was worth it, you can trust that it was. We just booked another vacation there but are staying 5 days this time. Airfare + hotel =$637.00. I had combed the internet and cannot find a better deal.

Older place. Very clean. Really helpful staff. Very nice breakfast hot and great chocies. My wife and Ireally liked it. It is close to the beach. Also walking dis. to area rest. exct. We plan on staying here again.

Not a bad Hotel for the money

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights. We knew that we were staying in an economey hotel so we really didn't have a lot of high expectations.

The continental breakfast was one of the best features. (Eggs, Sausage, Ham, Toast, Waffles, Bagels, Toast, Muffins, Apples, Banana's, Coffee and Juice)This was served everyday.

The air conditioning unit in the room did not work very well. We had it on high the whole time and our room was not very cool.

The bathroom had no exhaust fan so it was very hard to get your hair to dry.

The rugs throughout the hotel were very stained and all and all the room could have been a lot more clean. Things appeared to be surface cleaned.

The claim on the website is that is was last renovated in 2004. If that was true I can't imagine what was renovated. This place could really use some sprucing up.

The pool area was very nice but did not get much sun in the afternoon.

The bartender (Mike) was GREAT

The windows in our room were extremely dirty.

The bed had steel pieces that stuck out a good 4 inches and I can't tell you how many times I scraped myself on them.

All things considered this is not a bad hotel for the money. If they cleaned it and spruced it up a bit it would really be a great economy hotel.

Great location, nice hotel

There's a small hotel near where I live that has on its sign "we're just a little bedder." I was reminded of that when I stayed at the Oceanside, which is literally in the shadow of the mammoth, three-section Sheraton Yankee Clipper next door. But size isn't everything, since our stay at the Oceanside Inn was just fine. From reviews and vacation planning, I knew ahead of time there weren't ocean views, but it mattered little. The beach was minutes away (through or around the Sheraton), the staff was very friendly and helpful, the continental breakfast (which also included hot items like eggs and sausage among the usual cereal, muffins and bagels) was just right and the location was central to water activities (like the local water taxi), beach shops and restaurants. The room was quite comfortable as well.

The pool was being resurfaced while we were there, but the Oceanside made arrangements with the Yankee Clipper to use their pools--a nice little bonus:)

stayed her for two nights and on the second day our wallets were stolen with cash and credit cards. The only person who opened the room was the housekeeping supervisor and 10 min after that the cards were used. Management says it is policy for housekeeping to "check" the rooms at this time(4:30pm). wanted then to charge us to fax police report to credit card companies and then mngmnt wouldnt even talk to us. They then charged us completely for the night stay!Beware if you must stay and watch your belongings, if you can try any of the other hotels on the strip!

Sawgrass Mills Outlets This mall is out of the way but if you have a rental car go for it....so many deals to be had and the place is unbelievably huge. It truly has everything you could want and more...Gap, J Crew, Ron Jon and more and more and more....

Ride the bus! If you're there for a few days buy a bus pass. We paid like $2 per day and rode to the Galleria mall and to the outlets in Sawgrass. Perfect way to get around!!

Distances Every thing is much further than it looks on the map - e.g. Sawgrass Mills - allow 30 mins to drive to this, The Swap Shop - allow 20 mins by car (from seafront), Billys Swamp buggy - about 1 hours drive away - Las OlasBoulavard - shops and dining - advertised as half a mile from the hotel - was more like 2 - 3 miles away
