What a horrible experience!

I have never had such a horrible experience with a hotel! Not only did I have to bring the trash, and dirty towels out to what was supposed to be a FULL-SERVICED MAID, but she only gave us sheets for one of the two beds. Also during our stay, there were bugs in the room which gave us large red bites. When we reported this to the maid, and the front desk upon our check out, no one seemed to care. I have never been so disrespected in my life. The hotel's staff is very unprofessional and I will encourage people NEVER to stay at this hotel.

We picked this place from a travel web site and could not have been more pleased with the entire experience. We found the staff to be very courteous and helpful and the room was clean and neat. We especially liked the expansive front porch with the ocean view. We are planning another stay here and will encourage everyone we know to stay here. It was great.

Nice place!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We spent 4 days at the Avalon Waterfront Inns and had a really nice time. The room was clean and a decent size. We got a beach efficiency in the main building. It had everything we needed. A king bed, plenty of closet space, and a kitchenette. There was an ironing board, iron and hairdryer in the closet. Our room only had a shower stall, no tub, so if it is important to you to have a tub be sure to ask about it. It didn't matter to us. The grounds were very clean. The pool was very warm. The guests while we were there were quiet but having a good time. Breakfast was enough to start the day. Coffee, tea, muffins, bagels, granola bars, fruit, instant hot oatmeal, and juice. We ate there every morning and weren't hungry again until lunchtime. The staff were very helpful and we had no complaints about anything. The location was great! The beach was just across the street and there are plenty of restaurants and bars just a few blocks away. Beware though, there are NO grocery stores within walking distance. A Seven Eleven is the closest thing you'll find and it is about a 10 minute walk away. If you are planning on using your kitchenette, you may want to consider a rental car or taxi to get to the grocery store. The buses run right past the inn, ask at the desk if you want to get somewhere cheap, but not fast. The bus is $1.00. The Water Taxi is great fun. It is another way to get somewhere and you will enjoy the ride. The desk will sell you an all day pass for $4.50 or you can buy one when you get on for $5.00. The map is hard to read, but once you get on it's easy to figure out. As you can see, we had many great experiences in Ft. Lauderdale. Only two drawbacks I will mention: There is a new building going up right next to the Avalon Inns. It is slightly noisy during the day, but it isn't the Inn's fault. There is construction all over the city, so you can go somewhere else and still end up in a construction zone without knowing it. And please DON'T go to the Margarita Cafe right on the beach road. It looks like a fun place. We went there for our first drinks and dinner as soon as we arrived. But when the bill came for 2 people at $77.99 we almost died! Then we tipped on top of that. We noticed later that the tip was already included, but after a couple of margaritas and some scribbling in just the right spot by the waitress, we couldn't tell about the tip inclusion. We were really put off by that kind of stunt. Every other place we went to had fair drinks and food with no cheap tricks like the Margarita Grill. Stay away from it!! But do enjoy yourself at the Avalon Waterfront inns, they were great!

Great stay ON THE BEACH

from A TripAdvisor Member
Great staff, nice rooms excellent location. We stayed March 12-19 2005 in the middle of March Break but had no notable problems with/from the revellers. Our 2 kids (4 & 7) loved the front pool and proximity to the beach (right across the road - safe crossing too). The pool, believe it or not, was actually too warm on one day (96F) and we asked the staff to turn the heat off. The hotel is nice and close to the main "strip" - walking distance as well as the water taxi - much more enjoyable and much cheaper ($5 all day) than the Jungle Queen ($14 for 3hrs). Make sure to take a water taxi to the Las Olas tourist area - try the Ugly Tuna restaurant for cheap / good eats. - right on the waterway and lots to see.
Back to the hotel - ask if you can to get one of the rooms in the front building - I think they are nicer and closer to the action. The rooms themselves are adequate - built in the 50's? or 60's? they are not 5 star accomodations! Don't expect mints on your pillows. The rooms are fine for what they are - clean, furnished and roomy. My only "complaint" is lack of shelves or dressers for suitcases or even toiletries in the washrooms.
Otherwise, staff is friendly, and very accomodating - we saw nothing of what some other travellers have mentioned in regards to problems at the front desk.
If you remember that it is a 2-star hotel, and keep your expectations realistic, you will LOVE this hotel. It is clean located in a great location and has a GREAT pool.
Be aware, there is construction going on at the lot next door since there are new hotels springing up all over Fort Lauderdale. Even this hotel seems to have its days numbered before "The Donald" takes the whole strip over (not kidding - Trump is building a massive complex a block away).
We loved this old time charm hotel and the affordable price that comes with it and do not look forward to the massive monsterous condos (starting in the mid-$300,000's) that are replacing all these little hotels. Pretty soon, Ft. Lauderdale will be too expensive for us.
Stay here, you'll love it.

Clean with plenty of Sunshine

from guidee
Very clean room and property! Had beachfront efficiency with small dining area, sink, 2 stovetop burners, fridge & micro. Everything worked fine right down to the electric wall mounted heater in the bathroom to warm up your shower or bath time! Staff were very courtious and front porch sitting had the finest ocean, beach and "people" watching you could find day or night.

Will be back to stay here again soon!

Very kind and helpful

We wanted to stay at a reasonably priced hotel, with access to the beach and night life. The Waterfront Inns Hotel was just that. They were kind and helpful and reasonable. We would stay again.

LOVELY HOTEL

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just got back from a weeks stay at this hotel & I was thrilled with it! You never know when booking online what you are getting-I was pleasantly suprised. Our room was a great rate at $130/per night. The staff was very nice & helpful, the room was a good size-we only got a hotel room-it had 2 queen size beds and was decorated very nicely. We were right beside the pool & the office. The room smelled great-we even commented that it smelled really good-the bathroom was small & not ventilated but our window opened on an empty lot-so we would open that when showering & that was fine. I think for the great location & the great price it couldnt be beat! There was even a free breakfast every morning-yourbasic continental: juices, muffins, bagels, cereals & granola bars-but it was just enough! Nice porch to eat on & I thought the office had lots of nice things such as snacks & drinks to purchase, a computer to use, books to read & towels for the beach. The cleaning staff were all very nice as well. I hate that a few reviewers had bad experiences becuase mine was great! I have already re-booked for next year! And I am a pretty picky person. Our room was also carpeted -the kitchenette was stocked with plates, flatware, towels, toaster, coffee maker, etc. Iron & ironing board were also in the room & the closet was a nice size. If anyone would like to see phots-feel free to write me-my file was too big for this review.

Bad Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed in this hotel on January 26, 2005.
Before I booked the room, I called twice to this hotel, and the lady who answered my call told me there is wireless internet in all the rooms. so I booked the room through hotels.
When I arrived, it was 8.30 in the moring, the front desk told me the room I booked has not been ready, and asked me whether I want to take up a smaller room, he told me all rooms are the same, it just size that matter. I was very tired, and I agreed with his suggestion.
After I checked in , I found out that my rooms has no carpet, small bathroom, no ventalisation in the bathroom, no rack for me to put my luggage, smell of the room is bad. the worst thing is that I found out other rooms are nice, clean, carpeted, spaces, and good.
I requested the front desk to change my room, but the reason they gave to me was they sold out all the room and not able to change it for me., but 2 rooms next to mine were checked out and empty.
I got so frustrated, and requested to check out immediately and change to another hotel that 1 block away, and I got a better room with better rate.
I will never come back to this hotel agagin. bad service, empty promises.

Possibly the worst room in the world

from A TripAdvisor Member
We intended to stay at this hotel for the last night of a 2 week holiday in florida, but eneded upstaying for 5 hours after checking in(4 of which were spent out of the room). The room was possibly the worst we have ever stayed in,and that included a pretty poor room in Egypt. My wife made a list of 35 faults which included the most pungent BO smell that hit us when we entered the room, the distinctly dodgy looking stains on bedspread and the floor, the equally aromatic yellow water that flowed from both taps, the bottom of the bath is indescribable, black mildew on the ceiling, a door that wouldnt lock properly, the list is endless. I also found the staff to be a bit snotty, unco-operative and lacking in customer service skills. It was that bad, my wife wouldnt even sit down on the bed, as this was the only place she could have sat as the room was that small, there was barely enough room to swing the preverbial cat. We ended up driving to Miami, booking into the Hilton in a mini-suite, and all for just $10 more. Dont be fooled by the website or brochures pictures.Spend a bit more and get somewhere a thousand times better

Great Value for money with a terrific staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
Although the hotel is in need of renovations to the rooms, it nevertheless represents terrific value for money. Excellent complimentary breakfasts, free papers, free internet available all day, super heated pools, very well equipped kitchens, towels changed every day and a super, super staff who could not do enough for us to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. An excellent location well within reach of bars and restaurants but away from noise during the nights.

What a fabulous vacation

from A TripAdvisor Member
I went to Ft Lauderdale for Thanksgiving and had a fantastic time. The resort is somewhat dated and needs a little renovation but the rooms are extremely clean and comfortable. I stayed in a one bedroom oceanview. The towels are thick and thirsty not like some of these other resorts. The kitchen was full with everything you'll ever need. The staff is just wonderful and accommodating. I'm a person who is extremely picky about cleanliness. This resort certainly met my expectations. And being right across the street from the beach was absolutely wonderful. However, if you need extreme quietness you might get a little annoyed. The walls are somewhat thin. But that didn't bother me. Great place and I will definitely be back.
