Good 3-Star place

from WKE235
Overall, a nice place to stay at a wonderful price. Definately a place I will look at staying in again my next visit to Daytona. What will you encounter at this hotel? Well, like many 3-stars, there are small cosmetic flaws such as paint on the walls that does not quite match the previous color, or misaligned / not fully grouted tiles on floors here or there. The typical small things that keep a 3-star from higher ratings. But only the nit-picky person will really notice this. What I noticed was the clean room, clean sheets (no stains, no odor like bleach I've seen in some places, comfortable to sleep in), and good level of service(Examples: (1) ROTC attendees were attending and they posted signs in advance to warn guests you might see folks carrying items like non-working drill rifles so no one would be alarmed. (2) I ordered a pizza late one night and they stopped the delivery at the desk for security .. they try to keep non-guests from wondering the halls late at night to protect the guests. (3) I arrived at almost 11:30 PM due to late flights and someone was at the desk ready to check me in).

Great Place for the Price!

from goshencooks
I read reviews of this hotel before I booked it and it was going to be way cheaper for Bike Week than alot of the other ones and that worried me.But I gotta tell you this wasn't bad at all. Our room was clean and oceanfront w/balcony. And the staff all spoke english very well. They had accents,so what! Everyone was very nice and accomodating to our needs. The only thing that I seen was the indoor pool wasn't very clean. Other than that, everything was clean, maybe a little outdated, but I wasn't paying for the Hilton either. We had a kitchenette in our room, complete with microwave & full size or mini coffee pot. They take care of the bikers too, they had upfront parking,a place with water to clean your bike and towels to clean it with. They don't allow trailers though, there really isn't any room for them . We did have trouble with a clogged drain in the tub but they fixed it right away and we never had any more problems with it. We had friends that stayed closer to Main street for a small fortune & couldn't afford to do everything we did,We have a nice home to come back to,that's when we spend time sitting around. No time for that during Bike Week. We Will be back again!!

wow, how can you hire ppl who speak very little english? the desk clerk was from hungary and had no clue as to even count my change. most of the staff were great except a few, namely the "head houskeeper" he was very rude to us and his employees. how can the manager or owner even think about employing ppl like this. its bad buisness. the stay was nice, but like staying in the bad part of town, with the maid knocking on your door eating hotwings! some upper staff changes would totally flip this hotel.

A Good Place to Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed in this hotel with my family over Christmas. It suited my needs and I was very satisfied. The indoor pool was very warm- like bath water, and the walls around it were painted with a nice tropical scene. The outdoor pool, however, was freezing, as was the ocean. The rooms weren't too fancy but they were nice just the same. We had a room with a king bed and a pull-out couch. The king bed was very comfortable but the couch was not! If you plan on sleeping on the couch, I suggest bringing blankets, because none were provided. The shower was nice; it had one of those heads that you can adjust make the water fall at different settings. A hair dryer was provided, too. We had a beautiful side view of the ocean from our balcony. My only complaint was the cleaning. It was not bad, but when we first arrived at the room we found some clothes behind a dresser on our search for an outlet. Other than that, I was satisfied with the cleaning.

Overall, this was a great hotel. It's no Hilton, but for the price it's a very cozy little spot. I enjoyed my stay here very much. I would definitely go back. I hope this helps you in making your decision of where to stay.

Great Value on the Beach

from JanesvilleEd
We were very pleased with the hotel. It was just what we wanted: on the beach, great pool, great view. There was a large staff always cleaning. The Pool Side Cafe had simple but tasy food at a value price with friendly service.

Loved the ocean views

from Tappy Feet
We spent two nights there recently and enjoyed our stay very much indeed. We were "walk-ins" and inspected the room having asked for a high floor. The views of the ocean are so much better the higher you are. We used a coupon which they honoured and as there were only 2 of us and we didn't want a kitchen, we had a room with a side view of the ocean from our balcony, and another window on to the street. Our first impression of the hallway was a shabby carpet and the elevator carpet was shabby too but the carpet in our room looked brand new. We slept with the balcony curtain open so we could wake to the ocean view - it was really pleasant. My only complaint was that the outside pool was very cloudy and didn't look too clean. But they view to the ocean through the clear perspex pool surround, and the steps to the beach, make it ideal for families. We had a relaxing break there and would happilly stay again. It's good value for money, especially with that great view. The staff were efficient and not over friendly. It suited our needs well.

Not the Greatest!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our family stayed here as one of those awful timeshare deals. The hotel is not all that bad, they try to keep it clean but it's very very dated and seems old, maybe older that it is. The location is wonderful, right on the beach and my daughter enjoyed the outdoor pool. The room wasn't too bad except that they put us on the ground floor.
The worse part of the entire trip was the very uncomfortable beds! It was like sleeping on a piece of hardwood which was no fun for my husband who has a bad back. They don't give you blankets only the sheet and the comforter cover.
You could probably find much better accommodations for the same price. I wouldn't recommend it at all unless there is no where else to stay.
Hope this helps.

Convenient to the beach

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and two children ages 5 and 16, stayed here for two nights on June 15 and 16, 2005. Overall, our first impression from the road was that the Tropical Winds did not look as big and luxurious as the surrounding hotels. However, we were assigned here as part of a package we had purchased, so we decided to make the best of it. We were assigned a room on the first floor; our 'oceanfront' view was of the parking lot. The first night we could not get the patio door open; the second day, after much jiggling, we did manage to open it. The patio had two plastic chairs and a plastic table; not luxurious, but comfortable enough for when I needed to use my cell phone outdoors (the phone would not work inside the building at all). My children and I did use the indoor pool the first night. They don't appear to be very strict about the times when they close the pool. We were in there till almost midnight and no said anything to us. The room itself was okay; it was nice to have the kitchenette; basic kitchen utensils were provided. Breakfast is provided, but it is not complimentary; therefore we did not eat in the poolside cafe. The room was basically clean and comfortable, but I question how thoroughly the cleaning was. My 5 year old found a cigarette butt that was definitely not ours. Also, while they did make the beds and change out the towels, I don't think they vacuumed because we found some small trash on the floor. I am sure that it is a challenge to keep the rooms clean with all the sand tracked in from the beach. Although we tried to keep it clean, the bathtub was hard to clean for the next person because of the sand. My other real concern regarding the room we were in was that sometimes the door did not close all the way when we thought that it had. We did learn to double-check it every time. Also, because we were on the first floor and near the side entrance door, we did hear the traffic in the hall throughout the night, but it wasn't real bad. Local calls are free, so I was able to use my computer to access the internet while there; that was convenient. Overall, I would probably stay here again, but I would request a floor on an upper level. The biggest plus is the convenience to the beach, which we thoroughly enjoyed while there.

Oue family of 5 (3 kids) hated every minute of this dive. Great for partiers since it has already been well 'broken in'. The management is beyond rude, the rooms stink, filthy is too nice ref cleanliness, refunds aren't given to prepaid credit cards, ha!, etc. If OSHA walked in, they would condem this place. Martha Stewart should have been kept here! She would have never sinned again! Stay away and don't trust the management.

Top Local Tips for Daytona Beach

Vacation in Daytona Go to Daytona USA it is awesome.... best thing to do and not at all expensive the beaches arent really that pretty anymore town is really run down now...... other than Daytona track not much else to do Im gonna probably try Orlando next year.

quick tip If you are not from the south or live near the ocean, go to any of the small crab shacks along the beach. The crab legs are amazing!!! and all you can eat..YAY!

Rent a car for sure! It's not worth trying to cab it or take a trolley/bus. The costs aren't really a savings. Cabs are expensive in Daytona.
