James Bazemore and Todd Morgan management, John Apuzzo and Vicki, at your hotel redefine rude!

The family and I wanted to go to Daytona Beach for a short vacation. The wife and I wanted to take our bikes. However, if we rode that would preclude taking our three boys. So we opted to find what we hoped would be a biker friendly hotel. One that would permit us parking for our company trailer capable of towing our Harley's. We thought we found such a place at Perry's Ocean Edge Resort.

The wife called ahead and was told that ample parking was available across the street. Moreover, that is lot was staffed with 24 hour security. When we arrived we found this parking lot unpaved and full of nails, screws, wire, and metal shards. When I demurred, Steve the night shift maintenance supervisor suggested that we park on the grass between the lot and the road. It seemed and looked like a better option, so we agreed. Steve stated, “the way the vendors' drive who park back here will probably hit your vehicle any way.” The next day Vicki, with an I as she extols, the hotel manager states, “this is unacceptable and the rules are the rules and that we would have to park in the lot with the other vendors.” We complied, meaning that we would also be unable to bring the ramp door down to off load the bikes in the dirt and debris. In other words, no bikes for this vacation.

Please note we are not one of Perry's vendors but a customer. I complied and while waiting bought a disposable camera. I expended the 27 pictures documenting the numerous tire hazards. While waiting to speak to the general manager I told Vicki, “with an I,” that I was not impressed with their customer service. Vicki, told me that she has, “been doing customer service longer than you were born.”

When I got to speak with the general manager, John Apuzzo, I told him about the documentation of the tire hazards and gave a 3 inch nail to punctuate the point. I asked if I found any more nails would he like if I gave them to him. John said, “no keep them as a souvenir.” Basically, John's response was if you don't like it stay someplace else.

Pictures (to be developed and I need I another camera, you will not believe it) and PowerPoint to follow: … by the way, it took about three hours to get enough signal strength on Perry's wifi to send this message. Much, much more to follow as the frustration subsides!

When we checked out the room was inspected for damage. Is this done for all occupants?

We have started a web blog and email campaign discouraging patronage at Perry's. Also, This experience will be used in my courses as an example of how not to do customer service.

What a great hotel!

Me and my family have been going to Perry's for soon-to-be 5 years for spring break. Yes it used to be a little out dated, but the new renovations are great! The cleaning ladies do a fine job cleaning the rooms daily. They have a great beach front view with all the amentities you need. I would try this place if I were you it is a fun time!!

I get one vacation a year and this July 2004, I went to Perry's in Daytona Beach. My hard earned money and my family stayed at this dump. The room was awful. Outdated to say the least. The ceiling fan was hanging by wires. The furniture was so nasty and our coffee tabel leg was broken and filthy. The bathroom faucets were so old and worn out they appeared to be dirty. I was afraid to touch them. I noticed one day getting out of the shower, that the side and back of the toliet was surrounded in scum. They could not pay me to EVER come back to this place again. Not even the "free" doughnuts where good. This place needs to be bulldozed! "Shame on you Perry's for taking people's hard earned money for this Dump!"

Continue to Love this place

Been spending a weekend at Perry's every summer for almost 10 years now, and I continue to enjoy this place. The renovated rooms in the South Tower are very nice, and the kids love the choice of an indoor and an outdoor pool.

I know that there have been some recent negative reviews, and to each their own, but we love this place and will continue to stay there when we go to Daytona.

Terrible Vacation

My family and I meet in Daytona every year for a family reunion and Perry's is not somewhere you want to stay. We try different hotels because we are always in search of a hotel with a little more to offer, so this year we decided on Perry's. It was completely awful!!! First we requested that our rooms be near each other and they weren't. Then the elevator went out everyday, and my father had to climb four flights of stairs and they were not willing to put us in another room. Several people complained but they offered nothing. Then they were putting on a tar roof and the smell was terrible, and once again they offered nothing for the inconvience. They would allow you to move to another room but you had to pay a higher price. The parking was ridicolous. There is only one parking pass per room, even though they some of the rooms will sleep up to 8 people and in most cases 8 people did not ride in the same car. If you had more than one car you had to park across the street and pay $10.00 per day for parking!!!!! And if that is not enough they had all of the charges for our rooms messed up. They charged some credit cards twice and we had to go back and forth with them and our credit card companies. We are now back home and still disputing the charges that they said they had fixed. According to an employee they our under new management and things have been going down hill ever since. My family and I will not be staying therre again.

Perfect for our family

We had a wonderful time at Perry's. It was perfect for our family. We stayed in the newly renovated section. The room was very clean, bright and spacious. It had a small kitchenette which was great for us because it saved alot of money by not having to go out to eat all of the time. The kids loved staying there because they had their choice of pools, one being an indoor which was good for rainy days. Perry's is a very comfortable hotel. I would recommend it to everyone.

super cool

its the coolest hotel. its a sweet spot to go to for spring break at least for us because there are always a lot of teenagers there and there are a lot of parties and fun things to do biotch.

Very disappointed!

We have been staying at Perry's for 6 years. We will never return. The second day, we noticed a dead roach on the floor, which remained the entire time(8 days). The bathroom was never cleaned from the first day on. The floors (kitchen and bath)were never mopped from the first day on, and unless I removed the sheets they were not changed. The staff was very rude! Perry's remodeling has proven to be a disadvantage for the once very nice hotel. The prices have gone to far along with charging for a parking space. One more note. The Smokehouse resturant was the best, which has been replaced by Ed's eatery. We ate breakfast the first morning and would never return!

Out with tradition and on to a new Hotel

For over 10 years, my husband and I have stayed at Perry's during Spring Bike Week. This year is our last. Not only do the rooms need updating, but the owners have become increasingly greedy with extraneous charges. The surroundings were littered with garbage(which we picked up). The shower hot/cold water was inconsistent. The door lock was difficult. The slats on the door only half worked, and the room smelled musty. This year, the owners charged an extra 5.00/plus tax, per night, for every motorcycle a person had. Most of us were told to park our cycles in a specific guarded location. If a patron had a car or truck, they were not charged extra(we didn't have either). We were also asked to sign a waiver to not hold the hotel responsible if a motorcycle was damaged or stolen while under the presence of a "security" guard. On a side note, Perry's south tower was recently renovated, and they are now selling them as "condohotels", for $59,900.
Once the rest of the hotel is renovated, we heard the prices will be around $200.00 a night or more.

My family and I always stay at Perry's when we go to Daytona. Sure, the rooms are a little old fashioned, but they are always clean. I love the pools and the location. We've also stayed in the La Playa alot but this hotel is by far the best in our book.

My family has been staying at Perry's for the past 30 years. It's a family hotel and we just love the inside garden area where the pool is located. They also have three outdoor pools.I was disappointed that updates hadn't been made to the rooms in that area, however. Our room still used the unsafe old fashioned key entry system instead of the card. Our bed was up against an air conditioning unit which gave my husband a cold. The hotel still makes homemade doughnuts for its guests that we consumed for 9 days, but most modern hotels now offer other choices on their continental breakfast buffets. We would have liked to see some fruit and cereal added to the menu. Also, our shower curtain had mold growing on it at the bottom. A little bleach would have taken care of it.My family will return to Perry's out of tradition.
