This hotel is a mad house. Don't expect to get a chair at the pool, as you have to wait in a line of around 120 guests to try to get a chair. If you are not in line around 7:00-7:30am, so when they let you in the pool area at 8:15am, you will not have a chair. This hotel is not accomadating at all. We requested a lower level room, as we have a senior citzen with us and she has problems getting around, they put us on the 18th floor, and would not change it. Rooms were nice but the bedroom window is in the hallway, so people come by and knock on the glass ect. You can hear everything, not to mention there are blinds on the window, but the light from the hallway shines threw all night. I could go on and on, but I will never stay at this place again. The front desk, it you can get ahold of them are rude. We had come from the vistana in Florida, and this place at Daytona Beach was a nightmare, parking to. Oh and the resturant, if you call to order something they will ask you to wait and never return.
Prom Weekend Madness!!

Upon checking into the Ocean Walk Resort we were very pleased with the accommodations. But, if we had known that we were checking in on the weekend of a prom we never would have stayed there. The hotel rented out rooms to numerous teenagers. Our room was next door to a group of drunk prom-goers who stayed up "partying extremely loud" ALL night long. We made numerous complaints to management. Nothing was done. We did not sleep the entire 2nd night (which was the last night) of our vacation. Our experience was horrible and I would recommend to anyone who plans on staying here in the future to ask the hotel if any proms/etc are going on during their stay. It's sad that the hotel was more concerned about keeping their "prom-goers" happy than a quiet family who was just trying to have a nice vacation.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Ocean Walk Resort Hotel

Great place..but bright lights for sleeping!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stay in Daytona Beach often. The Ocean Walk is by far the best place to stay--whether with the kids or with the hubby during bike week, etc.
The ONLY real problem is (it was mentioned earlier) that there is a bright light coming through from the hallway to the bedroom. I tried hanging a sheet (and tried other manuevers), but you can't do anything about it. I was told it had to do with fire codes, but please, Oceanwalk management, do something to solve this. It's the only thing wrong with your place. Everything else is #1--staff, cleanliness, parking garage, pool area, quietness... This place tops Hilton, DBR, Adam's Mark...just bring your sleep mask.

Ocean Walk great resort for Kids

from A TripAdvisor Member
My family and my grandparents went on vacation with us to Daytona Beach. Now, my mom and my grandparents have been going for years and when they walked into the hotel, they said it took their breath away.
My parents loved the resort so much the first time we were there, they bought timeshare and made a reservation for our vacation for next year before we left. They have great activities for children. I had to go the ocean walk shop by the indoor pool to check out all the neat stuff and got a necklace made. If you have young children the crafts are great and for the teenagers you can go to the ocean walk village that is located at the beside the hotel and you can enter it through the 3rd floor. I loved this hotel and we are going back again for our 3rd time during the Pepsi 400. I hope that everyone will stay here because it is one of the best hotels. Our first year we had a reservation for the Manatee Suites and it was not every nice. When we woke up the next day, my mom was on the phone finding a new hotel. We went out looking for one and their was the ocean walk resort. It looked like only rich people stayed there, but it was not the much (says my mom). My parents fell in love with it, and we have been back ever since. This is a great hotel and you will never have to think about your kids saying mom, dad I'm bored! There are so many things to do and it's so much fun there.
If you need a hotel to stay out chose the Ocean Walk Resort and there is a second Ocean Walk Resort opening in May 2004 right beside the first one. This great hotel never stops.

P.S Try the Lazy river. You will get a tan and be relaxed.

Great Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Ocean Walk for 2 weeks in October with 3 friends. It was a great stay, clean rooms, very quiet. I only have one complaint my friend called down and asked for some more coffee for the coffee maker and that brought it up at 2 AM!!!! She called at 8PM - this was a little odd I thought but oh well at least we had coffee in the morning!

A great place to stay (with caveats)

from lamberta
My husband, eight-year-old daughter, and I stayed here three nights (in mid-November) to recuperate after a week at Walt Disney World. Our suite in the "A" unit was decorated in cheerful blues, greens, and yellows with trendy (yet comfortable) furniture. We loved the kitchen with full-sized appliances, ample cooking and eating utensils, and washer and dryer combo conveniently located in the unit. We were on the fifteenth floor and our balcony overlooked the pool and beach. Perhaps it was because it was off-season, but we did not hear any loud music or noise. Our only significant complaint was the bedroom window that looked out into an interior hallway. I understand the bedrooms need to have a window and the layout dictates the hallway location, but as one previous reviewer mentioned, the hallway light shines through the wooden blinds all night long. The curtain panels are merely decorative and not designed to pull together to block out the light. This seems like an easy enough problem for Ocean Walk to correct and I hope they will. Because of the light in the bedroom, I opted to sleep in the living room and I have to say it was the most comfortable sofa bed Ive ever slept on. While the mattress was not completely flat, at least I did not feel any metal bars. Another small quibble we have with the hotel is that the eatery has a limited menu and there aren't any delis in the attached Ocean Walk Village. However, Ocean Walk Village does have a gourmet ice cream shop, a Starbucks, and a movie theater with several screens where you can spend evenings and rainy days. Theres also a Baskin & Robbins, a Starlite Diner, and an IHOP within a block or two. If youre willing to drive fifteen minutes, you can find every chain restaurant known to man out by the racetrack. Those of you looking for sun in the shoulder seasons should be aware that the sun will disappear behind the building in mid-afternoon and can leave you quite chilly. The pool heater was not working when we were there so that was no comfort. Overall, though, it was a very pleasant experience no crowds, no lines, no sales pitch, and the service we received was excellent.

t be back

from Suri H
My husband and I just returned from a 6 day stay at the Fairfield Ocean Walk and unfortunately we had a very negative experience. We are timeshare owners with Hilton and traded through RCI to stay here.
Unfortunately we had a terrible unit on the 5th floor that was supposed to have a city view. Outside both of our windows was a roof with a very large metal vent and many dead birds. It was so disgusting that I was unable to open the drapes during our entire stay. I asked the duty manager if we could have another unit or at least have the dead birds on the roof right ouside our windows removed. He said that there was nothing he could do about getting us another unit and he would see what he could do about removing the dead birds. The reason I am writing this negative review is because they seemed unphased by our concerns and the resort was nowhere near capacity. I have read complaints about the B units, we were in unit 519A, I suggest you call ahead if you are staying in the timeshare portion of the resort and make sure you are not in this unit, it is disgusting. The concierge also called every day about attending the timeshare sales pitch even though I made it very clear we were not interested. We travel frequently and have been timeshare owner for 3 years, this is our only negative experience, and in case your wondering there was never any attempt to remove the dead birds from the roof outside unit 519A.

Our Ocean Walk Visit

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at Ocean Walk this past summer for a whole week and we completely enjoyed our visit so much that we are going back again next year.We are in a sense timeshare owners, but we own with Fairfield.
Don't think that is why we enjoyed our visit so much. I have NEVER known Fairfield to mistreat their guest on purpose and if there is a problem just let them know. They usually try to make things right. As for the music, you are on a beach that has night life. If you don't like music, don't go. And if you know there are certain units that you don't want, make sure that you are not getting one before you go. The layout of these resorts are available for those that ask. So do not blame the resorts because you do not do your own homework on the place that you want to or are planning to visit. These resorts on the beach are highly popular so there are a lot of people there. There is a wait sometimes for elevators, but they are not that long. These places being so popular is what is helping to keep them in business and that in turn keeps the rates down and more affordable to the ones that want to rent.

2 bedroom oceanfront

from A TripAdvisor Member
the 2 bedroom deluxe oceanfront room we reserved was not oceanfront it was a view of the oceanwalk village a big yellow building during the day with the air conditioner units making noise so loud you could not hear nothing else and at night people sitting across from your room on bar stools drinking and watching you, so you had to keep all of your curtains closed. the reason oceanfront was so important was because my husband can't get his legs in the sun because of sun posioning, but he enjoys watching every one on the beach including our 3 year old son play. we pleaded with the resort to change our room or either tranfer us to another rci resort in daytona either they couldn't or wouldn't and this was not the peek season and they didn't have any oceanfront rooms, right. we'll never go back to this resort and we are selling our timeshare with fairfield because you have not freedom of choice with a timeshare, but you do if you pay for it yourself and its cheeper.

from A TripAdvisor Member
I am an employee of Ocean Walk Resort and just wanted mention that we have 2 sides to this property. We have Timeshare side and also a private owner side. To maybe clear up any confusion- the Timeshare side has the "B" units. This means you must be a member to stay at this property and you may only have enough points for this type if unit, which is aka a One bedroom Suite. The other section we have is called our Whole Owner side. This side is designated for nightly paying guests who are not members. These guest Never get assigned "B" units.
The guests who pay out of pocket for a room get Oceanfront w/a balcony.
I hope this helps clear up any confusion. Thanks

Best in Daytona

from sp5ive
Resort was by far the best in Daytona Beach. There were a few minor things, but overall it was great. Upon check in the bi-fold door to the washer dryer was off the hinges. The water park, Adventure Landing, which is walking distance from this resort is closed due to lack of patronage. The locals say tourism is down.

Need Darkness to sleep please!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The resort looks wonderful but when it comes time to go to sleep- a bright light shines into the bedroom all night long!! The blinds don't keep it out, nor do the curtains as they are non-moving ones for decoration purposes only. This is the newest, nicest place at Daytona so if I were coming back here again for the race, I would stay; however I would bring something to put over my eyes so it would be somewhat dark when it was bedtime. At least I felt "bug-free" here- very clean!
