We Absolutely Loved the Aku Tiki Inn

My husband, two sons and myself stayed at the Aku Tiki Inn and we loved every bit of our stay. We booked for two nights and ended up staying longer. The rooms with the patio out to the heated pool were awesome. The kids loved being on the ocean. There is a basketball court, shuffleboard, and ping pong. Very kid friendly. We had the time of our lives. The staff and housekeeping were always very friendly. The rooms were very clean and the mattresses were comfy. The restaurant food was excellent. The warm cookies served at the front desk each morning was one of the kids favourites. We can't wait to go back.

What a Wonderful Place

My family and I stayed at the Aku Tiki over the Christmas holiday. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. The front desk clerk was so friendly and very knowledgable about the hotel and the area. The place looked like it had just been built and the hotel room and bathroom were cleaner than mine at home (and I am a clean freak!). The food in the hotel's restaurant was very good too. The pool area is one of the best I have ever seen. Can you believe they actually have a large GRASS lawn on the OCEANFRONT!!!! The only problem we encountered was when it was time to leave . . .no one in the family wanted to leave as the staff made us feel like we were part of the owners family.

No Service, No Smile, Big Problem

If you are looking for a place to stay with friendly people who are eager to serve you, this is NOT the place for you. The grounds are nice, but the service, or the lack there of, -----!!!!!!!!!!!!

A New Home for our Family and Friends Week

What a pleasant surprise! We had been coming to Daytona for fifteen years, staying at different places but the Best Western Aku Tiki was outstanding. First of all, all guest rooms have been totally redone and were very fresh and clean. The pool area is great and many of us enjoyed the lawn area out by the beach. So convenient with a restaurant right there and even better, a cocktail reception daily, complimentary. We have already booked our group for next year and expect to return to the Best Western Aku Tiki for many years to come. P.S. Great friendly staff, too.

Good and Bad

There are as many good features as there are bad when staying at the Aku Tiki.
First the good: The grounds are beautiful! Lush tropical plants, inviting pool, lawn and pool bar overlooking the ocean. We had a first floor room with sliding doors that opened to the pool deck. The hotel restuarant was surprisingly very good. Their Hot Wings are definitely hot and spicy! The staff is friendly and quick to help with anything you need. A family oriented hotel that has a staff member designated to doing craft/bead projects with the kids. (She is usually walking around the pool deck.) The hotel is located on a quiet part of the beach but is still a short distance to all the action.
Now the bad: The newly remodeled rooms stink-literally! We bought air freshners to combat the strong mildew smell. The closet had a strong fish smell. We assume that water had entered the rooms during the onslaught of hurricanes last year. The bed comforter looked old and worn and smelled of mildew. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. If there is any reason I would not go back to the Aku Tiki it would be because of the terrible mattresses!
I would give the Aku Tiki an overall Very Good rating. We had a wonderful time and will consider coming back (with an air mattress).

Wonderful Hotel

My recent visit to the Best Western Aku Tiki Inn was everything I could have asked for in my need for relaxation. From the comfortable, clean rooms to the serene outdoor surroundings, it was "just what the Doctor" ordered. The staff was so friendly and the evening cocktail reception was a nice addition. I can not wait to come back when they finish with their upgrades. I think it is going to be such a great thing for the hotel and the guests. Thank you to the staff and management for helping make my first of many visits to the area so relaxing and wonderful.

We stay at the Aku Tiki on a regular basis and think it is one of the best deals on the beach, any season.

We especially like the pool/outdoor activity area. The Aku has one of the largest lawns (yeah like real grass)/beach fronts on the beach and our kids love the huge heated pool (another rarity for DAB). We even go in the winter because we know we can get into the pool. They have a bball court and shuffle board as well.

No bad rooms in the house. Most have a view of the beach and the first floor, south side rooms are the best: They all open out to the pool area. Super convenient.

Not family resort, smelly, drunkin hotel

My wife and our two children stayed at the Aku Tiki this past memorial day weekend. we have been staying there for many years. it has turned into a smelly,moldy and drunkin resort that is not conducive to family vacationing. We arrived to find they had remodeled all the rooms and they were very nice, however, there had just been a flood. for days there were fans running & the smell of mold everywhere. The new closets are so small that you cannot hang up all of your clothes. the telephones went out of service. the hotel manager was very nonchalant and we got the impression that they do not care if you stay there or not. Over the weekend we observed countless people coming up from the beach using the pool and taking up residence on the lounges and roaming through the halls. we did not feel that it was safe to leave the kids out of our sight. the restaurant which has always been a great place to eat with excellent food(and still has great food & service) has been turned into a drunkin bar room for one hour with free all you can drink alcohol. The noise that continues well on into the dinner hour would deter anyone from wanting to dine in the restaurant.
To the credit of the restaurant employees and the restaurant manager they do everything possible to try to control the situation and make the people having dinner have a great dining experience. If this is what progress is for the aku tiki then we will not be back!

I wasn't sure where to go. But I realized that Daytona always performs. The Aku Tiki was newly renovated with fantastic rooms. Rates were a bit much for a college student, but it was totally worth every dollar! ($117/night for an oceanfront room) Rooms were spacious, but I definitely recommend a kitchenette room. Bathrooms were spotless and the view was spectacular! The pool was clean, the staff was nice, and our stay was awesome. The place never looked so good. I highly regard this hotel, no matter your age or lifestyle.

Just returned from 9 days at this hotel. I have been traveling to Daytona Beach for manny years now and this was my first experience at the Aku Tiki. The room was spacious and clean and the hotel staff was very helpfull. They even sent maintenance up to help me setup my DVD player so the kids could watch movies on the TV (the TV needed to be programmed to accept video input from the RCA cables..).

The pool and grounds are very nice and well maintanied. I would recommend a pool side room since you get a good view of the ocean and the pool and it is cheaper than the ocean view rooms. I would stay away from the parking lot side (North Ocean View) rooms.

Overall, I thought this hotel provides a lot of value.

Top Local Tips for Daytona Beach

Non-Smoking travelers Be careful in making reservations to assure a non-smoking area if you are a non-smoker. Nothing other than the 5th floorwas contaminated with the awful smell. My fault that I did not change locations. The view from the balcony was fabulous -kept the doors open while in the room.

don't do parks all at once When our kids were little we would stay at the Aku Tiki and make day-trips to Orlando to go to Magic Kingdom or Sea World. We would spread out the day trips with days lounging at the beach so as not to get worn out. Now that our kids are older they simply enjoy the beach.

Drive on the beach in the Daytona Beach area If you are traveling to the Daytona Beach area and would like to, you may drive directly onto the beach in some areas (with a small fee), this allows you to drive on this beautiful beach, and you can unload your beach chairs, etc. instead of carrying them from the parking lot. There are also handicap wheel chairs available to enable wheelchair bound individuals to experience the beach without getting their standard chairs hung up in the sand. There is a very slow speed limit on the beach and we have never felt endangered while walking or laying on the beach during the times vehicles are allowed.
