Great Family Place

Stayed here 2/22 thru 2/27 for a conference. This is a great hotel.
Especially if you are traveling with a family. Lots of families there while Dad/Mom were at the conferences. Pool is very nice and the beach is beautiful. The staff went out of their way as usual in a Starwood Hotel. Since I was Gold Member I was automatically upgrade to a Preferred Guest Room on an upper level with a great view. The food prices were pretty reasonable considering this is a nice Sheraton. Even the room service was not overpriced. I have stayed here a couple of times and this time the service seemed more attentive than the last in 1998. I think they have improved themselves. The only thing to be aware of is that the beach is a public beach, as are most in FL, and you need to rent the chairs and cabannas on the beach. I think it was $25 per day for 2 chairs and 1 cabanna. The waters edge of the beach is a long walk from the pool area of the hotel. I counted about 900 steps (300yds). It's a beautiful walk, but there are no bathrooms on the beach, so it gets tiring walking back an forth all day for drinks and restroom breaks. Keep that in mind, especially if traveling with grandparents. Other than that I will definitly stay here again.

Don't hesitate to stay at this wonderful hotel. I particularly liked the size, friendly and obliging staff members, and the beautiful beach.
We had an oceanfront room overlooking the pool on the seventh floor. It was wonderful to watch the sun set each evening. A very friendly place!!

Avoid rooms near elevators!

This is an OK Sheraton. Rooms are reasonable size overall but bathroom is very small with separate hand basin (also small). Our room was opposite the elevators. A disaster! The area has ceramic tiles. Put luggage on wheels on ceramic tiles and guess what - you get no sleep!
The ice machine is also in an open area close by (why don't they put these things behind a door). Seems everybody who went for ice had used their previous supply in some alcoholic beverage that caused them to talk very loudly (or sing, in one case). All of this is not helped by a gap at the bottom of the room door so big that our room was not dark even with the light off at night. Bottom line - make sure you don't get a room near the elevator. Otherwise the place is not bad - common areas are nothing special but location, pool, beach are all fine. Staff didn't leave a great impression. Have stayed in much better Sheratons than this.

What else would you expect from a Sheraton Hotel, on our arrival there are several folks to great you. Jim, our Bellhop, was on his game that day. He gave us the full treatment, as did all other hops with their arrivals, the tour and point out every detail of the resort. We are a family of 4, 2 Adults and 2 10 yr olds and we had plenty of space in our Deluxe Dbl Room. The views were fantastic and overlooked the pool and beach. Restaurants range from upscale to casual and were perfect for our needs, large pool deck for sun worshipers as well shadded areas for others. The beach is very nice, as well no where near as crowded as Clearwater and not as loud. I have stayed at many places over the years in Clearwater (including the Hilton) and will only stay at the Sheraton from now on. If you are looking for non-stop partying and noise til 2am then don't stay here..if you are looking for a relaxing time away with the family and have easy access to all daytime things over in Clearwater beach then this is the ONLY place to stay.

The Sheraton Sand key is the the BEST hotel in Clearwater Beach, FL. The hotel has its own private WHITE sand beach. The pool/jacuzzi area overlooks the ocean. Our room had the view of the bay and it was beautiful. I'm pretty sure the view of the gulf would be breathtaking! Staff, was corteous and friendly. The beds are made so COMFORTABLE it makes it hard to get up!

We spent a weekend in October at the Sheraton Sand Key in Clearwater Beach, Florida. All in all it was a very nice experience. Friendly staff, very clean, nice amenities. We paid for a room with a pool/gulf view and it was well worth the extra $. We watched the sunset from our balcony and it was awesome. The rooms are nice, but small. It would be crowded with more than 2 people. The beach is beautiful, but a long walk from the hotel, as you have to cross a wide expanse of sand to reach the water. Bring or buy a small cooler for water, beer, etc. as there are no facilities at the beach. You have to walk back to the pool for the bar and bathrooms. Sand Key is over the bridge from Clearwater Beach, and is quieter and not so busy. There are many nice condos next to the hotel. We really enjoyed it, and would certainly go back.

If you want a lazy week on the beach then chill out on the sunbeds and really enjoy the pelicans and dolphins making regular appearances. A great beach experience.

But if you want a holiday hotel with a good size pool, plenty of relaxed "holiday" atmosphere in the hotel then don't bother. Whilst it was clean and tidy, the Sandkey appeared clearly focused on corporate conventions and wedding groups. As a result the atmosphere in the restaurants was often deadly boring and subdued - we could only assume that many guests (corporates) were seemingly having room service or their own private functions. The pool was frankly far too small and the poolside meal facilities certainly did not impress.

On balance however, the beach compensated above all - glad we went but certainly wouldn't go back there!

Great Hotel

This hotel is one of the best in Clearwater. We changed from the Radisson to this hotel. The Radisson had an extreme mold problem. This hotel is so much cleaner and nice. The rooms are not very large but standard size. The staff is extremely nice and the hotel is located right on the beach. The bartender by the pool remembers everyone and their drink. I would definitely stay here again!

Date of stay - September 20, 2003. This hotel is very clean and comfortable and gives fantastic views of the bay. Moreover, the staff goes out of your way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Upon getting to our nice clean room, my husband turned on the T.V. to check out some football games. The reception was very poor and there was no sound. We reported the problem and a maintenance man was at our door within minutes (if not seconds) to fix the T.V. Shortly after the maintenace man departed our room, we received a call from a front desk clerk apologizing for the T.V. inconvenience. As compensation, we were given a choice of $15.00 room credit, a free movie, or free full breakfast for two in Rusty's restaurant. Now that is what i call service. But that is not all.......the rooms do not come equipped with microwaves. I had some food left over from lunch and wanted it warmed for eating. Mind you it was about 12:30 a.m. I called the front desk and inquired about a microwave I could use. Needless to say, a staff member was sent to my room to get my food and warm it up for me. He returned with a plate, napkins, and eating utensils. In addition, he even went and bought me a Diet Coke to go along with it. Wonderful.
This is a great place to stay for great service, clean rooms, and gorgous views.

This is a beautiful clean hotel that is rightly proud of its staff. I got a very good price in early August 2003 through an agent. Its 5 mins drive from Clearwater Beach, with a few shops, including a supermarket, and a couple of reasonable restaurants you can walk to just across the street. You should ensure you have a child or two with you for maximum enjoyment, otherwise you may find it a little busy. Rooms are average size, well equipped with balcony, and very clean. Bars and restaurants are nice and not a bad price for a 4 star Sheraton. The pool is attractive if not huge, but if its huge you're after try the beach right in front of the hotel, its fantastic. But be sure to take a towel with you to the beach as the only real complaint I have is the price of renting a beach Cabana; at $20/day on a beach with plenty of space I reckon its a rip off. Good watersports there though. The staff were efficient and friendly enough, and the management really excelled themselves when, having arrived home and realised we left something valuable in the room, I called them and was truly impressed by the service I received. This wasn't my first stay here, and I'll keep coming back until the kids leave home!

Shells for great seafood In terms of value or taste Shells on Gulf Boulevard is the way to go.The mojitos are great!

Traffic There is only one main street that all traffic merges onto as you get closer to this hotel and it gets very busy later in the afternoon.

Check the little diner There is a little diner at the far east end of Sheraton Sand Key lobby near the meeting rooms. For a resort, the kids' meals were a relatively good value. Two kids meals (sandwich, side, & drink), a beer for dad, and tip was only $20. The place normally had several local policemen dining, which is always a positive sign.
