We have stayed at Shephards 6 times. You can expect a very clean facility, a curteous staff, and good food on the buffet or at the Tiki Bar.
A wonderful place to let your hair down, enjoy live music, and people watch. We are going back for the Memorial Day Weekend party.

Thje Worst Vacation Yet

THE WORST. DEFINITELY NOT A FAMILY PLACE! When we checked in we were told that the pool closed @ 11:00 p.m. so noise wouldn't be an issue. Of course, neglected to tell us about the Tiki Lounge that plays loud music until after 2:00 a.m. every night and then have to deal with all the drunken idiots that think they are being cute and funny. Actually had a drunk who was thrown out of hotel (had to be really drunk because nobody is thrown out of this place if they are willing to keep buying drinks) approach my 15 year old daughter twice about helping him get back to hotel. When management was told the answer was "this is an entertainment complex." Be that as it may, I only go on one vacation a year and don't expect to have to go back to work on no sleep! Had to wear wristbands on the weekend to prove we were staying at hotel, that's how crazy it gets. Also, hotel guests have to park on the upper floor of hotel so all of the drunks can get valet parking! Definitely caters to the young single scene - which is fine - if that is how it is presented! Beach is smaller than my backyard and have to pay to sit on lounge chairs. Couldn't wait to check out!

Never Again

We checked in on Thursday at lunchtime and were informed that our room was on the 3rd floor. The dance club was right below us on the first and second floors. We were not able to move and no one mentioned this when I made the reservation or I CERTAINLY would have requested a higher floor.

We could hear the 'Tiki Bar' band in our bathroom and the dance club in the bedroom. It was so loud that we had to open the safe so that it would stop rattling. We tried the "if you can't beat em, join em" approach, but it's the type of club that plays Jennifer Lopez and Celine Dion. It's not even possible for me to stomach that.

I think that they are misleading people when they refer to their hotel as a 'beach resort'. They only have 75 yards of beach out back next to the bar (with some sort of sand knat infestation). The rest of the "beach" is more of a pier or seawall. You have to walk down the street to the public beach if you want more than that.

For a comparable price, I could have been at the Hilton down the street with a HUGE beach and no thumping band and nightclub.

I think that if you are just barely 21 and want to party with other people who are barely 21 (as well as some who wish they were still barely 21), this is the place for you. It's strictly for the budweiser/miller lite, well drink crowd.

If you want to relax on the beach with grown-ups, I would not recommend it.

My daughter and I stayed here for three nights. 4/21-4/24. The rates were good for decor, pool, rooms and staff was friendly and nice. My daughter is 11 years old and thus too young to be exposed to such a wild scene. The Tiki bar is loud and packed with people who have overindulged. It is not a family place. The rooms around pool are nosier than the Terrace rooms above nightclub. We had a much quieter night in Terrace room. We reserved late and thus had a room change. The food at restaurant was great. We had fun but stayed away fom party scene. Reconsider if you have family and do not drink alot.

We have stayed at Shephard's for 6 years now and cant imagine staying anywhere else. The staff is so friendly and helpful. We call it Paradise. The sunsets are breathtaking, the view spectacular, dolphins, great food and the list goes on. Shephard's is located so that we never move our vehicle except to hit Wal-Mart and the grocery. So much within walking distance. I love having the fridge - saves us a ton. Entertainment is included in the price - great music. You can indulge as much or as little as you want - watch from the poolside rooms or go to the tiki bar and party. Very well supervised and altho packed it is "usually" under control. We have made friends who are there every year - like family - and all ages enjoy staying at Shephard's. I highly recommend - unless you want total quiet and no action. Like their ad says "It's all at Shephard's!!"

favorite place on the beach

I am a registered nurse who moved to Florida 3+ years ago, and learned of Shephard's through my real estate agent.I have been a regular patron ever since. I have never stayed in the hotel, but take everyone who comes to visit down to Shephard's for the live music and dancing. One should really do their homework before securing a hotel for a vacation.
I consider this place the Hedonism of Clearwater Beach so if you are not into dancing, live sometimes loud but great live entertainment, drinks, and some who obviously overindulge, it may not be the place for you. I must say I have never had a bad time there, and have met some nice interesting people who outnumber the jerks who are clearly looking for the evening's entertainment. Love to dance to Sequel in the lounge.
They are very talented and Robert too cute to ignore. The band at the Tiki bar is also very entertaining but was disappointed to see Encore break up.

My husband and I (both in our late 40's) just returned from a Spring Break vacation. I picked Shepard's Beach from the Internet on a "package deal". WE LOVED IT. I read a few negative reviews and all I have to say is the water is clean (and you can see dolphins swimming), the pool is great, the staff helpful and friendly, the beach was small, but who cares? The restaurant had wonderful food (I expecially enjoyed the seafood buffet), and our room was clean, medium sized, with a wonderful view of the water. The night club did not keep us up at night, I would really recommend for anyone to stay there. We will return.

Stayed at Shephard's in October, 2003 - Very dissappointed. After seeing pictures on their website we thought it would be perfect for a family vacation. The rooms were small - one bedroom - I don't think so.
Looks like they took a regular hotel room and put up a wall for the bedroom which you could hardly move in especially if you dared to put your suitcase in it. Living area, equally as small. There were 5 of us all together, we were told the room slept six. I don't know where, you couldn't even put a person on the floor it was so cramped. We had to rent another hotel room accross the street for two of the people in our party. Tried to tell them that the room was just too small and it could not accommodate everyone in our party and we were going to check out and they said we would be charged for the entire week even if we did leave. The beach; another deceiving picture on the net. There were beach chairs that you had to rent, but who would want to? There was no swimming to be done there, the water was gross. We will never stay at Shephard's again.

t Stay Anywhere else in Clearwater Beach

My family has been vacationing at Shepherd's for 10 or more years (Clearwater Beach since 1986) and I wouldn't stay anywhere else. We go at the same time every year and the same people are there. We have made many friends from different states and enjoy seeing them every year.
The Shephards' staff is above the rest, friendly and accomodating. We love it and so do our children and grandchilren they can't wait to go back. I highly recommend Shephard's.

Great Place to vacation, plan on staying many more times. Stayed here in January, plan on staying again in August. All the employees were very nice and helpful. The room was also very nice and cleaned every day. The frig and microwave was an added bonus that other hotels in the area do not have. Also, we weren't charged $5 a day for parking like other hotels in the same area. The food was great and very reasonably priced. We also enjoyed the Tiki bar and live music as well as the inside lounge live music. Wasn't too fond of the Wave music DJ (different age group than us). However, the other two live bands suited our taste perfectly. Beach is a little small at this hotel, but wasn't a problem to walk up the street about 3 blocks to the public beach and go snorkling and swimming. Highly recommend if you like music, dancing, and meeting lots of friendly people.

Had a very good experience last summer staying at the Shepards Beach Resort. I brought my 5 y/o daughter who loved spending time in the pool and hot tub. We stayed in the "tower" which reduced the amount of noise coming from the band. We plan on returning next summer and have already booked a 5 day stay at this hotel.

Dolphin sighting You will find plenty of opportunity to book on a trip to spot dolphins in their natural environment. If you enjoy thrill rides, don't miss out on the speed boat experience which operates from the municipal marina in Clearwater. Not only do you get the ride of your life and a glimpse of the dolphins, but you can have a go at driving the boat too! Great fun!

town Clearwater beach area is very old, there is a lot of construction.

Trolley Park your car in the garage and ride the trolley. It's 3 dollars ride all day or you can even get a weekly pass if there longer. Walgreens across the street has all the liquor you could want, save money not having to pay $4.75 a cocktail.
