I made plans for a Clearwater Beach vacation for months, thoroughly researched hotels for a good quiet beachfront hotel (all based on Internet reviews, etc), and picked the Palm Pavillion Inn. When I made my reservation they said they were quiet, away from construction and away from the rowdier end of the beach. My room was to be a king bed with gulf view for $150/night. When I got to my room, I almost cried at the thought of not being able to get out of my reservation because they say it's non-refundable. I sat there with my guest for 15 minutes wondering if we could endure this for 3 days, and I decided "no". I went downstairs and asked to cancel my room. The "nonsmoking" room reeked of smoke, as did the dingy hallways. The tiny, tiny room had dirty walls, dirty door, no tub, terrible view of their big NOISY restaurant downstairs out of dinky windows, and the overall atmosphere was sickeningly 1 or 2 stars. For $150.00/night!!! No way. This micro-room wasn't worth even $100 with the crappy dinky beach view. I left without having anywhere else to go. My friend and I envisioned a quiet sleepy "old Florida" atmosphere, and Clearwater Beach isn't it. Much more like Daytona. So anyway, do not have high expectations of this hotel. If grungy and gritty is your preferred atmosphere for ridiculous prices, Palm Pavillion is for you. Otherwise stay away!!!!

PP is great place to stay. Our family of four has stayed last 3 yrs. Last yr. stayed in Apt. which has kitchen. Great for saving money on restaurants. Apt. room is 20 steps from pool and 75 steps to beach and gulf. Clean rooms, newly renovated, and utensils in kitchen. Friendly, helpful staff. Located north of Pier, therefore less crowded. Highly recommend.

Top Local Tips for Clearwater

Where to eat. We ate at a new restaurant every evening we were in Clearwater Beach (8 days). I highly recommend the Palm Pavilion and Frenchys. The latter is the best seafood we ate all week.

Clearwater beach is small You can walk anywhere in Clearwater beach. If you're too tired, take the Trolley which comes around every 10 minutes or so.

Clearwater Beach is like Daytona Overdeveloped rowdy Spring Break atmosphere, not relaxing at all!
