Stayed in this hotel recently, albeit only for a night, but found everything to be in order. The pool and view from the room were stunning and the rooms were immaculate. Only complaint (and I wouldn't say it WAS a complaint) was the the aircon was very loud at night, otherwise, enjoyed our stay in a family room and would definitely visit again!

We booked our four-night 30th anniversary stay at this hotel. We paid more than we planned to spend per night for lodging but for the sense of security and cleanliness it was well worth it. We stayed in the remodeled tower and since we were not there during busy season we almost felt as though we had the whole place to ourselves. We had an eight-floor room with a gulf view and private balcony. The only other persons we saw on the floor were house cleaning.
We've now got both wonderful memories and photos of beautiful sunsets on the Gulf.
The hotel staff were always very pleasant and available for any request.
If you can swing a vacation during the off-season, this is a great place to stay. No beach at the hotel but within a very short walk. The hotel restaurant is a nice place to watch sports and eat but the menu is limited as most sports bars are. We ate breakfast and dinner next door at "Shephard's" which has an extensive breakfast and dinner buffet.

We have just returned from 12 days at the Gulfview Resort and had a marvelous time. The place is under renovations and at times it was a wee bit noisy but after the first day we didn't even notice. The restaurant both inside and out, the tiki bar and the wonderful large pool made our stay so enjoyable. Our room was clean as was the bathroom and large walk in closet. My husband is in a wheelchair and the accomodations were very accessible. The service staff was friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and assured we had a good time. We will definitely go back there. The view from our room wasn't the greatest because of the a/c units below our balcony but everything else including the price more than off set that.

Shame. Situated in a great location overlooking the gulf. Rooms were not that cheap but no real places to eat. No lounge and a lobby the size of a postage stamp. It looks like the service has room for improvement. It wouldn't take much to make this a 2*+ hotel.

50% of the hotel was under renovation, we were allocated a room that had not been renovated, it was disgusting, feet stuck to the carpet which was stained and had iron marks, chair in room was filthy and stained, room smelt very damp. Bathroom was equally as bad 1/3 of the enamel was peeling off the bath, it was very noisey in the evening as the car park accommodated cars for the local disco's which were empting from 2am in the morning. This was the secomd room allocated to us as we complained about the first one on the second floor as our view was of the air conditioning pumps, etc apart from the noise, the room was equally offensive. We asked if we could possibly be relocated to a more comfortable room, at least one with a carpet we could walk on but the young man on reception pointed out to us that yes, the hotel was 50% completed in the renovation, but unfortunately for us, we were not in one of those rooms, he just wasn't interested. We were so disappointed, it spoiled our holiday. we hated going back to the room, this is the worst hotelwe have ever stayed in and would certainly not recommend it, never before have we had a complaint re the hotels in Florida, they are always excellent, this was disgusting, think twice before booking this hotel.

The Ramada Gulfview : what a disappointment from a couple of years ago. After missing our first 3 nights out of 7 nights which where paid for and no refund we were treated abysmaly. Firstly we required a ground or first floor room because my wife use's a wheelchair and can barely walk,we where given a 4th floor room ok they have lifts but what if there was a fire.I pointed this out to the lady on the desk and her attitude was tough.24 hours later I asked wether we could use a disabled parking space the abrupt answer was no although the hotel was only one third full, needless to say I did not argue and just got on with our holiday. If this letter helps someone goodluck, but we will not be going back to the Ramada Gulfview. We love Florida and except for this hotel everyone as treated us wonderfully well, this is our first letter of complaint and lets hope it's the last. Thanks for reading.

This hotel is dirty. The furniture is old and worn. The carpets are stained, the beds and pillows are disgusting. We complained and were moved 3 times to different rooms, none were any better than the first. We checked out and lost our first night's deposit. this hotel is a dump, it is dirty, sleazy fixtures hanging off the walls, drunks collapsing in the reception area, and is the last place on earth to be put when you are on a honeymoon. We checked in and 35 minutes later checked out to take our chances on the streets at 2.00 in the morning (not advised in this part of Florida). Luckily we got booked into the Marriott via a decent taxi driver.
We did look at 2 alternative rooms but they were just as bad. This place is the pits.

Not worth the money at all

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from our Florida trip and stayed the last two nights at this hotel. I will never stay at this hotel again. In my opinion the hotel room was very dirty. The carpet was stained and burned, and the bathroom was pretty gross and not cleaned well. I have a 14 month old son and felt this was not the best place for kids. The pool area is very nice and we enjoyed our time at the Tiki bar (very good food and drinks). The only problem is the bar is open until 2:00 a.m. and our room was right above it. Very noisy and then when the bar dies down all the drunks hang out around the pool area. I could not sleep. Also, the bed was very uncomfortable. Durning our stay we saw several people complain to the hotel staff about their rooms not being clean. I like to stay at clean hotels for a good price and this was not one of them.

If you decide to stay at this hotel the second floor looked a lot better than the others, we were on the fifth floor.

t recommend it!

When we stayed here in late April '05, the name has changed to Gulfview Beach Resort but the elevator inspection signage still has the place listed at Ramada Inn.

The good points about this hotel are the gulfview restaurant, Jimmy's; the lobby, which looked like it had been recently remodeled; and the hotel staff, they were friendly and polite. The food at Jimmy's was great, the band was very entertaining and the view of the sunset was fabulous.

The elevator floor looked as if it had not been vacuumed in a few days. Our room was in a corner near the stairwell . . . lots of people running up and down the stairs and slamming the door all night. It was prom night so there were a lot of young people partying in the hotel and they were a little rowdy. The noise from the street was almost unbearable. There are no private balconies on the gulfview rooms. There is no gulf front at this hotel . . . it sits directly on the gulf (Jimmy's is gulf front). There is a pool and some sand to the right of Jimmy's. If you want to really enjoy the beach, go up to the right side of Pier 60 in front of the Hilton . . . now that's a beach!!!

The room was acceptable except for the fact that they had a full size bed in it! My fiance is 6'3" so obviously that wasn't going to work. I called and asked for another room with a bigger bed or or a room w/two beds but they didn't have anything else available. We made it through the night, checked out the next morning, went closer into to Tampa and got a suite at Marriott (the king size bed was so comfortable).

Overall, I was quite disappointed with the gulf front/gulf view hotels in the area. The ones at the lower end have no beach . . . it's mostly rocky areas and a little bit of sand. The pictures and the descriptions they have on their websites are very misleading. After doing some checking around, all of them appear to be overpriced. The closer you get to Pier 60, the better the beach is though!

Incompetent Management

from A TripAdvisor Member
What a way to ruin a vacation. We were awoken by neighbors who where loud and throwing items agains the wall. We called the front office twice. After nothing changed we asked for a different room. We were moved to a room that was actually closer to the noisy neighbors. Three hours later we were finally in a suitable room. The next morning we discuss the event with management. The management walked away from me. I complained a second time threatening no payment. This time the manager called the police to have me removed from the hotel. This was clearly a manager who abuses his authority, and gives no consideration to the comfort of the guests at his hotel.

Kinda Crazy

from A TripAdvisor Member
My new bride and I stayed here on the last night of our honeymoon. It was over Memorial Day weekend of 2004. I wish we would have known about Trip Advisor before we even thought about staying here.

This hotel is nothing it's cracked up to be, and all of the reviews are correct... It's dirty, and smutty!! Don't get me wrong, it's not the worst place in the world, but it sure as hell ain't worth over 100.00 a night.

Since it was memorial day weekend the beach was jammed packed. I've never seen Clearwater so busy. This hotel was overrrun with locals (underage locals at that) using the pool area getting drunk and causing all around havoc. Mind you, my wife and I are somewhat "partiers" but this was horrible. By talking with a couple (that was not staying at the hotel) this is a regular occurance.

We checked into our "Gulf side" room before noon. Checked out the pool area which was jammed packed. and went to our room. We changed into our swimsuites and headed down. It was kinda crazy in the pool so we decided to go up to the room and take a nap. We headed back down to the pool around 3pm and it was way worse. By this time all of the local kids were drunk and we just could enjoy ourselves. After being bumped into twice by the 50-some year old weird guy and his 20 year old girlfriend making-out and doing other naughty things in the pool we got the heck outta there. We headed on down to John's Pass to enjoy a nice supper at Delosa's Pizza and an ice cream cone.

Upon our return it was still nuts in the pool so we went to play mini golf accross the street.

Overall the hotel sucks, and their lack of concern to paying guests of the hotel is an outrage!! I wrote a letter to the hotel manager and followed up with a phone call and never even an I'm sorry.

Yes, the rooms are dirty, and the rest of the hotel is dirty. The best part about the stay was the Waffle House, and the soda machine which gave me 4 bottles of soda when I paid for one!!

DO NOT STAY HERE!!

Never again!

from GillNewcastle_UK
We have just returned from a 3 week visit to USA where everything else was fab. The Ramada was a basic, grubby, run-down hotel. Rooms were old and tired, dirty and bathrooms stained with enamel peeling off the baths. We complained and were moved to other rooms which had excellent views
over the Gulf but these rooms werent much better. We were on the 7th floor and had ants in the bed!
All you get is "we're under refurbishment" but they are only doing the restaurant which looks like a building site. The pool area is excellent although people from outside the hotel were allowed to mess about in the pool up to 3am some nights. Clearwater itself is run down and unless you're a 'surfing dude' there is very little to do apart from sunbathe. Nice to visit for the day but we certainly wouldn't go back and will never, ever stay in any Ramada hotels ever again! If you have the chance to change before your hols do it - mind you the only hotels which looked decent were the Holiday Inn, Marriot etc. but if we had our time again I would definitely pay the extra.

Had a great time!

from A TripAdvisor Member
After reading some of the other reviews, I was worried, but we just returned from an 8 night stay (July 3-11th) and had a great time. Our room was old and needed updating, but it was very clean and our view was incredible. The pool area was immaculate and the wading pool was perfect for toddlers and pre-schoolers. I plan to stay here again on my next visit!

What Was that Brown Stuff on the Wall ????

from A TripAdvisor Member
OK, we were warned, but this was (almost) a freebie trip so we took a deep breath and hoped for the best. Speaking of deep breaths, don't do it whilst in this place. A very not so nice experience. Curtains were old, very old, and stained. This was our anniversary celebration and all they could do for us was two separate double beds! Mysterious brown stain on wall outside our door. They give the excuse that they are "remodeling" but I think this is a standard line they give to anyone who complains. They've probably been under 'renovation' for years. The tiki bar is an all day all night hangout for the heavy drinker types. No bonus there. Cops were called to our floor for rowdiness one night. All in all spend the extra $50 a night and go somewhere else. Better yet, don't partonize Ramadas at all. Do some research and go for a cleaner place. The front desk staff was useless, at best. And keep checking Tripadvisor for reviews.

Nice place to stay, but could use some work

from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently returned from a 6 day trip to Clearwater Beach on May 13. After reading all the reviews of this hotel, I decided to take a chance on it. I arrived at about 8:30pm and check in was VERY PLEASANT. I requested extra pilows at that time, and unfortunately had to wait a few hrs before getting them (I had to call and remind them.) As the hotel says in the description, there is no beach, but BEAUTIFUL Clearwater beach is only a short walk away (600' or so). There is a nice poolside area that is bordered by a cement retaining wall, not bad for tanning and lounging. The Tiki-bar is great, I had good service and had nice conversations with all of the staff. Jet skiing and parasailing are available on site. Hotel definitely needs some renovating but isn't in horrible shape. You may have to ask a few times for things (like pillows, or even to have them change the battery in the smoke detector, which chirped for a whole day and night before anyone came and fixed it) but all in all, a good experience. Weather is great, sunsets are breathtaking. Definitely reccommend the area, possibly reccommend this hotel if offered at a good rate, which I had.

Good Location, Needs Work

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here for 2 nights after we stayed at Shepherds. This was a much quieter place but rooms were very tired. They did say they are remodeling them. We had a gorgous view of gulf. This was by far the best feature. It is a balcony and a better place than Adams Mark. There is no restaurant but Waffle restaurant attached is excellent with great service. The pool is nice but has no beach and service at poolside was terrible and unfriendly. It took me quite sometime to pay for a meal at the poolside. They should keep prices down until they remodel. We paid $170 for gulfview, which was gorgous but too much.

We just got back from a wonderful relaxing stay at Clearwater Beach after 5 days at Disney World. The staff at the Ramada is wonderful.
Location couldn't be better. Never used our car. Enjoyed the beach, Pier 60, shops and restaurants. Our grandchildren really enjoyed the kiddy pool and the inn is very family oriented. Never saw college or high school students hanging from the balcony. We understand the inn is under new management and went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable even while they are remodeling. We would definitely stay there again.

Top Local Tips for Clearwater

for a rainy day the clearwater marine aquarium is not glitzy at all but maybe worth taking kids.

Gulfview Blvd is closed. Nice area and beach but you will need to walk to the beach and Pier 60. Expect to encounter bumper to bumper traffic while on Clearwater Beach. The surrounding area is rather dirty (litter).

Clearwater construction There is still a fair amount of construction north of this hotel with detours and the Gulfview road was closed except to local traffic
