Historical Traveller Reviews of Best Western Sea Wake Beach Resort Hotel

Great place to stay in the beach/bay area.

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have stayed here twice in the last few years, always enjoyed it. Once on a fishing trip and once with my wife. Great location, close to all the attractions on both sides of the bay but out of the way too! Great little bar and small but enjoyable "beach" area it is on the cut into the intercoastal not right on the gulf but the area is nice and easy walking distance to the main section of Clearwater Beach if you can't live without having your toes directly in the Gulf. Helpful and courtious staff, very clean rooms and a sunset you can't beat.

Very Pleasant Surprise . . . Highly Recommend!

We had stayed at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort down the road previously which is very nice but has become extremely overpriced. A couple of weeks ago I found TripAdvisor by accident and decided to try the Sea Wake based on customer reviews and so reserved two nights. We were very surprised and delighted. We got a newly renovated room on the top floor with great views of the Gulf and Clearwater Bay (thanks Tom!). The room was bright and cheerful with a microwave, fridge and safe. Saw two beautiful Gulf sunsets from our balcony. Yes, renovation continues but we were completely unaware of it other than when entering the lobby. A great hotel at half the price of the Sheraton gets our future business.

t go back

Beware: this hotel is not really on the Gulf -- it's on a narrow channel between Clearwater Beach and Sand Key, so "Gulfview" rooms don't face open ocean -- they face highrise hotels, as well as a causeway connecting the two beaches. Between the boat traffic in the channel and the car traffic on the causeway, the atmosphere is more road than ocean. Beware the sincerity of the staff too: we were told on the phone that renovations being done would not affect rooms or the pool, and got there to find jackhammering and drilling right under our room and beside the pool! The staff's reaction when confronted in person? "I know, it's terrible"; "Do you want to go to a different hotel?" and my personal favourite: "I wouldn't bring MY family here!" (from the manager, no less!) Also, the inside of the hotel smelled like disinfectant. Stay here if you must, just remember: it's a discount location with a discount attitude -- so make sure you're paying a discount price!

Good value-Costa Azul

We stayed at the Costa Azul 13-17 Jan.2004.Clean rooms with lovely harbour views.Friendly staff, good breakfast and live entertainment in the bar on 2 evenings.Try Giorgios if not eating dinner at hotel.(Turn right from exiting front door, about 4 mins walk past Auditorium)First class meat, poultry and pasta dishes, excellent home made ice cream and desserts-very reasonable. We will be back!

Will always return...

I love the Best Western Sea Wake Inn! I've been travelling to Florida for 25 years and I always go back to the Sea Wake because of their friendliness, and cleanliness of the hotel. They have excellent service and the hotel staff will always have a smile on their face when they serve you. The beach is just steps away from the hotel and the bar is right on the patio so you can cool down on those hot, hot days! All the amenities are nearby and they are always thinking of ways to make your stay more enjoyable. I have recommended this hotel to many friends and family, and they all come back raving about this hotel. YOU GOTTA TRY IT!!-GlennBrampton, Ontario

Nice hotel but...

from A TripAdvisor Member
This will be a very good hotel when the renovation work has finished.
We stayed for 5 nights from 3-8 Jan and enjoyed our stay apart from the fact that the whole of the ground floor is like a building site with everything completely gutted which spoilt our stay a little. I was a bit cross that the hotel hadn't told us before hand of this work and did complain about the noise so they did give us a room with a sea view which was a little better. Apart from that the room was very good and spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly. I would recommend this hotel but not until a couple of months because the work looks like it will go on for quite a time!

Great Value For Money

We have recently returned from a 2 week stay at this hotel, September/October 2003, and cannot wait to return. Book a room with a gulf view - it is stunning. You will see dolphins and a glorious variety of birdlife and boats daily. We spent many hours sitting on our balcony just looking. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was well furnished and clean. The beds were particularly comfortable. Beach towels were free, readily available and of a good quality. There was no problem in getting sun beds at any time of day, but the hotel was not full. This may not be the case in high season. The pool is warm and clean, but small, so don't expect a quiet, relaxing swim at the weekend. During the week you can often have the pool to yourself.
Evening meals are not available, but the Italian/Greek restaurant opposite is excellent and well priced. There is major reconstruction taking place on the ground floor which is going to last for a few months. It did not bother us and the hotel took great care that it's guests were not subjected to excessive noise, but it is something to be aware of if you are thinking of visiting soon.

Loved It! Go There!

from christ2010
I LOVED the Sea Wake Inn! It is WAY better than your typical Best Western! I'm a 23 year old student, was traveling alone, and this place is fabulous! I made my reservation on the faith of these reviews & was extremely satisfied. Awesome staff, cozy beach, rustic wooden swing on the beach to swing, have a glass of wine, and watch the sun set. Large deck area & pool. VERY CLEAN. Tastefully decorated (reminds you of Cape Cod decor). Refrigerators, coffeemakers, microwave, and way comfortable beds. Large rooms, also. All rooms non-smoking, but have balconies so you can smoke out there. Stay Here!

A great place to stay for the whole family!

My husband and I and 2 1/2 year old daughter stayed for 5 nights. Our overall experience was great! I did a lot of research before booking a hotel. I almost went with another hotel in Treasure Island, but after reading the reviews I changed my mind. We didn't want to spend a fortune but wanted a nice clean room with a view of the ocean and some amenities for our daughter (pool, play area, refridge). We got just that! There was some construction in the lobby but it did not affect us whatsoever. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. The restaurant on the premises was very good for breakfast and lunch and our waitress was very nice. My daughter had a great time playing in the pool and on the swing set. If I had to make one criticism it would be about the beach area. It was small to begin with and then it seemed cluttered by the deck which was not open and the beach chairs and cabanas that no one was using because they cost $15.00/day to use! Also, the sand had a lot of cigarette butts and ants (which I'm sure the hotel doesn't have much control over). It didn't affect our vacation though - we still had a great time! We would definitely stay there again! We stayed at 2 other Best Westerns during our trip from Cleveland - one in Wytheville, VA and one in Valdosta, GA - all were very clean & affordable - definitely recommend the Best Western chain.

s no Great Lodging in Clearwater Beach.

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here in May 2003. The hotel check-in was efficient and the staff were very friendly. The rooms were clean. The beds were comfortable. Plus the price is not too bad. The hotel is next to an IHOP and across from a Walgreens which is very helpful. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the public beach area (the BEST part of Clearwater Beach--wide, sugary white beaches that are combed daily and breathtaking). The hotel has a small playground on their own beach. The pool was very clean and warm. The only downside is that the view is of a narrow inlet of the Gulf that leads to the bay. There is a bridge to the left and directly across the water is more land. It's not ugly, but it's not the serene view of endless blue waters that would be optimal.
It's worth the money and because Clearwater Beach doesn't have many top hotels this place is among the best.

Pier 60 catch pier 60 at sunset. The children will like the play ground and street performers and the adults will like the sunset and street vendors.

Beach rush hour! Avoid going to the mainland during evening beach rush hour (usually after 4pm until around 6pm). We found out the hard way! :)

food Gondolier Family Restaurant, great food and service!
