Great experience, step back in time!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Aftering finding a great rate through expedia, we read the reviews & saw two extremes, loving it b/c of it's old charm or hating it b/c it was old. But we figured you can always stay at a run of the mill beach hotel or motel, so we gave this a try. We had a GREAT experience and lots of fun. The place was very unique & charming. We enjoyed the very large rooms with high ceilings. The long, old & quiet hallways reminded us of The Shining, but that was part of the neat & unique experience. We enjoyed the wonderful breakfast (included in our expedia deal) on the patio with a cool egret watching over us, had ice cream at the parlor, sat in rocking patio chairs reading books during the day, and enjoyed the hot tub at night. We arranged to go biking (they have bike rentals in the hotel), but unfortunately it rained. For those who complain it's too old, stop your whining. It's 106 years old! What do you expect? For those who want a neat & unique stay, we strongly recommend a stay here. The old hallways, the old fashioned rooms, the quiet relaxing patios, this historic & large hotel is a surreal step back in time!

Genteel, comfortable.

We stayed at the Belleview Biltmore last week and attended a conference. We had a great time and had no complaints. Our room was large, with high ceilings. It was very clean, had nice furniture and a huge closet. The ambience at the hotel was genteel and I loved it. Just walking down the hallways was enjoyable. The business center was helpful and easily accessible. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. I had requested a ground floor room and that is what I got.

Stay Away From This One!

from Love2GoOutofDanville
We were at this so called resort for only 1 night (had reserved for 5 nights). The lobby smelled musty. The room we were given smelled so musty that we requested another one. The room was old which we expected but the odor was horrible. We requested another room which was even worse. It smelled a little better to begin with but at night we discovered mildew on the wall above the bathroom door (a lot of mildew) and you could wipe it off with your fingers! The bathtub looked nasty! The room just looked dirty. They have a large swimming pool with algae growing in it! You could see it and feel it. My husband & I did not sleep that night at all. Checked out early the next morning. We have never been some place that bad! How can anyone call that "dump" a luxury resort? They appear to be trying to give the appearance of being a luxury resort but have not done the work to the rooms which will be required to be 1st class. We will never ever return. Beware, stay away!!

Charm and elegance

Wow, what a nice surprise. The rooms are spacious and very "old time"; high ceilings large windows, even in the bathroom. Grand hallways and ballrooms and the pool is fabulous. My favorite area was having lunch on the Terrace Patio overlooking the grounds and pool. I can't wait to return.

Belleview Biltmore

We stayed for a week in April 2003. The pictures make it look a lot better than it really is. But if you appreciate older houses and history you will find it interesting. Take the tour they offer. The staff was very nice. They need to be trained a little more in how to get around and what there is to do. We found a better way to the beach by ourselves - the hotel's directions took us the long way around. You need a car, it isn't close to anything. No, not even the beach. While we were there it looked like they were power-washing the building and the lobby was pretty clean. Housekeeping didn't do much the week we were there in our room. Drink bottled water, the water in the hotel was disgusting. The outside pool was fine - some disrepair. They have a kiddie pool too. The poolside bar was great. The inside pool was interesting , very Victorian I would say, but it needed a REALLY good cleaning and scrubing down with bleach. The food was pretty good, but the one time we used room service they just couldn't get it right. We were there on Easter Sunday - they have a big brunch - they might have been busy preparing for this. We had kids and the Easter Bunny visited and they had an Easter Egg hunt - it was a nice touch. Good for a few days - not a week.

Experience like no other

We had no idea hotels of this type existed. We made reservations approximately a month in advance for a conference. We were given this room and were extremely upset, the room had a very small bed was furnished with horrible furniture and if you would have not remembered to squeeze by the bed you would have run into this ?12 inch tv sitting on this very old ugly table. We immediately went back to check in and advised the room was totally unacceptable! Our room was changed to another room. THE KEYS WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR! Finally after waiting out in the hall for someone to come with new keys, the maint. man arrived with keys that opened the door and said he was going to throw the others away. This room was much better we had a kingsize bed although the room was still not your average size room at a resort. The grounds were landscaped with weeds and trash and litter-cola cans cigarette butts etc. The chairs we had to sit in for the conference were cheap plastic 2/$5 very uncomfortable. The outside pool was in really shabby condition as well as the inside pool. The inside pool had a very strong odor of chlorine and Pine-Sol. The chairs and tables scattered throughout the hotel were old and dirty with cheap plastic tablecloths and old throws thrown over them to hide their condition. The paint outside the building was flaking. The few plants inside the hotel were dying. No, we will not return for any reason to that hotel. We could not wait to leave and return home.

Belleview Biltmore huge disappointment

--Room type requested when room was reserved was not honored--Inadequate service in restaurant at Sunday brunch--Comedy of errors at front desk--did not honor my initial room request, but did move me the next day. Later, another key to room was given to another family who tried to come in as i was sleeping--Do not be fooled by the photos! Hotel is nowhere near the beach. In fact, hotel is nowhere near ANYTHING! DO NOT stay here without a car at your disposal!--Although out of room for 7 or 8 hours at a time, housekeeping did not take care of room--Unless you plan to be out at pool by 8 am, do not expect to get a chair!--CHECK YOUR ROOM TAB CAREFULLY! A $30 tip was 'added' to a dinner bill! Although I thought it was taken care of at checkout, the incorrect amount is still on my credit card bill!--Bugs in the bathroom--Terrible customer service--No response after a long letter detailing complaints--clearly they care more about $$$$ than customer satisfaction!!!!

My fiance and I decided to stay at the Belleview Resort based on it's pictures, descriptions, activities, location etc. that was listed on their website. The website shows a beautiful, remodeled resort with many ammenities. However, this website misrepresented the quality of the hotel. The hotel was built hundreds of years ago and has probably never been fixed up since. Now, there is no "old world charm", maybe old but not charming. The outside of the hotel badly needed a new coat of paint, washed windows and porch furniture that isn't going to break when you sit on it. The inside of the hotel reminded us of the hotel in the movie "The Shining". It truly was that creepy. The carpets in the hallways and rooms was old and dirty. It smelled dirty and musty throughout the hotel. Our fabulous poolside room left much to be desired. The windows were too dirty to see out to the pool which was too far away for our room to be considered "poolside". The spa was merely an extra room with folding massage tables. In their ad, the resort claims to be very close to the beach, when in reality it is a twenty minute drive. The staff ensured us before we came that the beach was only a couple minutes away. We went to Florida to relax by poolside and beach and we were very dissapointed when we arrived at the Belleview. Unable to spend one night at this eery hotel, we quickly picked up our things and went to another hotel for our vacation. I will caution anyone who is interested in staying at this resort that it is not clean and remodeled "old world charm" as expected based on the advertisements. It is simply old, dirty, and flat out creepy. The best part about it was how willingly the staff offerred to find us differnt accommodation and refunded our money when we said we were leaving. This obviously happens alot there. I suggest staying somewhere else no matter what other reviews say. We saw nothing appealing about this resort.

Already looking forward to going back

We didn't know what to expect due to reading these reviews before our trip, but after having spent a week there last month, we can't wait to go back ! The hotel is beautiful and the staff was great - couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our vacation.

like stepping back in time

I stayed at the Biltmore for a conference a couple of years ago. It was charming. There grounds are beautiful and all over the hotel there are little porches nestled under flowering vines and shady trees with swings and rocking chairs. There was no reason not to relax and enjoy it all. My room was large and comfortable and the food was excellent.

Top Local Tips for Clearwater

Pier 60 Take a trip to Pier 60 at sunset. The buskers are great, the view is magnificent and the sand is silky. Pay the $0.50 to walk to the end of the pier. You'll be glad you did!

Restaurant Row Get out of the beach and onto the mainland for food! Drive South on Fort Harrison and there are a ton of wonderful, local restaurants -- Wildflower Cafe, Jorge's, Paper Mill, E&E Steakhouse, and more!

Eating away from the hotel excellent steak house 10 mins. from hotel. Hotel owned resturant is worth the 15 min. drive to watch the sunset or use the facilities for an ocean swim.
