Top Local Tips for Newark

Central location This location is central to some very good attactions in the area. If you are new to the area, must sees include Dover, DE, Longwood Gardens, Wintherthur Gardens and New Castle, DE. First or second week of May seem ideal for azalea blooming. Check schedules: Wintherthur is closed on Mondays. New Castle museum is also closed on Mondays. If we had more time, I would have spent more time at Wintherthur since there are a variety of tours available and done some historical tours at Dover and New Castle. We flew in and out of PHL which was very convenient (less than 60 minute drive in middle of day) and inexpensive. By the way, LL Bean store is closed at Wilmington.

Christiana Mall 15 minutes from the Hotel via I-95. No sales tax in Delaware

Great food and atmosphere! Deer Park Tavern on Main Street in Newark is a great place to eat. During the day, it showcases family oriented dining and on weekends it hosts a great bar scene. The building itself was built around the 1850's and poet Edgar Allen Poe stayed there when it served as a hotel. The food is great too!
