Good until someone felt sick

My daughter and I stayed for four nights last week. We experienced a clean hotel with good service except for the last day after we had checked our and left our luggage for collection later. My daughter had unfortunately eaten something that disagreed with her(not at the hotel). Instead of continuing our sightseeing we returned to the hotel and waited for our taxi. My daughter lay on the sofa while I read the paper. One member of staff asked us to move to the side of the waiting area which we did with no objection. Later an unpleasant individual came up to us and (despite my explaining that my daughter felt unwell) told us bluntly that lying down was not allowed in the waiting area. /we were made to feel unwelcome and a nuisance. We did not wait for the taxi we had ordered but left immediately. My daughter spent the afternoon on the floor of Dulles airport. I shall definitely not use a Marriott hotel again.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Washington Marriott Hotel

great service, great location

from twotravelersAikenSC
June 6, 2006: My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in June 06. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were very nice with the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in! I was surprised that there were no towel racks in the bathroom other than the hook on the back of the door. We had the buffet breakfast one morning and opted to take a walk our final morning. Try Bread and Chocolate around the corner on 23rd St. For dinner one night we ate at Grillfish - very good and the second night at Kinkead's - pricey but wonderful food and service. The hotel location is within an easy walk to the Foggy Bottom Metro Sta. We would stay here again.

Very nice

We stayed at this hotel just last weekend for my b'day weekend. I don't think we could have picked a better hotel for the price. The staff was very friendly and helpful and gave us all kinds of tips for getting around the area. By the end of the first night in DC we were so tired we ordered room service and the food was really good. At the end of every night we ended up in the pool area/hot tub and it was always clean & nice. The workout area was very well kept too!

Loooooved it!!!

I've stayed here twice and loved it each time. It has a great pool and fitness area and the rooms are beautiful. The hotel is located in the Georgetown section of Washington DC not far from George Washington University.
I love to stay here and request to stay here every time I'm in DC. Stay here you'll love it.

Great Location, Comfortable Rooms and Friendly Staff

from Jeremy7736
The hotel was a short walk to Georgetown and two different Metro stops(3-4 blocks away). The room was small but very comfortable, clean and nicely furnished. The staff in the hotel was extremely polite and helpful. I was very impressed by the quality of the room and the location. I purchased the room through priceline which made the hotel an excellent bargain for me.

Above average service in a great location

This is the fourth time I have stayed at this property and I will most likely stay there on my next visit to D.C. It is surprising how well the hotel has held up depsite the heavy traffic and consistent high occupancy rates. The staff is genuine, friendly and always available. You can't beat the location if you want to be central to all of the various tourist locations in D.C. There is easy access to the metro (DuPont Circle) and it is a safe neighborhood to walk around in; and an easy stroll to Georgetown. The only possible negative is the parking garage, but that can only be blamed on the person who designed the chopped-up, one-lane pit of a place. I was lucky to find a space on the first level and did not have to descend into the bowels of the place (there are three floors).

Great location, great hotel

We stayed at the Washington Marriott Hotel in late October for one week. We were on the Concierge level, seventh floor, and loved the continental breakfast and evening snacks and the wonderful, friendly service. The room was fine, good shower and Starbuck's in the lobby was an extra bonus and there was complimentary hot apple cider each evening in the lobby (ask at the desk). We enjoyed the gym and pool, but the ladies changing room was small and smelt very musty. We did hear the sirens each night but we were always so tired that we managed to sleep in the comfortable beds despite them! Foggy Bottom, Georgetown and Dupont Circle all within fairly easy walking distance, if you are fit. Restaurants to suit all wallets nearby. Check out the Cheesecake Factory at Friendship Heights on the Redline Metro, they serve huge portions of savouries and desserts at a fair price. Great shops at Georgetown, Pentagon City and Frienship Heights.

No complaints, and a very good gym.

I was here for a weekend stay in June '05, and got the hotel for $60/night on Priceline. The room was typical hotel layout, but quite nice and clean. I didn't eat at the hotel restaurants, but the gym is very good with cardio and weight equipment. I'd happily stay here again.

Perfeclty Priced and Comfortable

I stayed two nights at the Marriot, it is located near great resturants, a slight walk away, but worth it. The Marriot was comfortable, and the main loby was very nice. The rooms are not the biggest however. Personally if I were to go to Washington again I would choice a little more upscale hotel, for only a maraginally higher price.

Nice place. Nice rooms

from BenBombo
My wife and I stayed here over a long weekend. I booked it via priceline on a whim. I bid and won $60/night before taxes& fees.

I really liked this hotel. Very clean rooms and a nice location. We didn't rent a car and found this hotel very convenient. We could walk to the metro and stroll to Georgetown. Lots of restaurants were found just a quick walk away at Dupont Circle. It was fun passing the various embassies nearby.

The most fascinating thing about this hotel: It used to be called another name (Vista International) and they changed the name after D.C. Mayor Marion Barry was caught smoking cocaine here in 1990. Apparently we were staying in the same room (812) and the concierge and bellboy let us know the room's unique history. Wow!

One drawback: No outdoor pool. Just a small indoor puddle. No big deal.
A tip: Skip the tacky New Orleans-theme bar attached to the hotel and head to a place called the Brickskeller. It's a bar up the street that has been run by the same family since 1955. Very interesting, friendly and original place.

Fantastic Price , Wonderful staff, Awsome homemade omlets

from relaxed34
We stayed at this Marriott over 4th of July weekend. The Ritz is less then a half a block away. Traveling with children the pool was a huge hit at the end of the night.
The hotel also offers washing machines. "But they are hard to come by at
night." Thee staff is intrested in helping with smiles. The beds were fantastic and comfortable. After walking around all day touring we were exhausted and hot. The starbucks station in th gift shop was a plus.
The breakfast package was a great deal. The hotel is neat and clean. I think a French airline crew is in weekly and the lobby becomes a little crowded. (4 th of july ) No problem sit by the piano bar.

"The only down fall was that you have to take the metro everywhere from most locations in Washington dc." We decided that a family of four would spend the same amount on the metro. So we took Taxi's and organized a good drop off of point a and walked from b,c,d,e. The hotel has cars for hire. Also if you are staying for a week The express train to NYC for the day would be great idea with the kids. It is a very easy commute.
We walked around the block for an Italian meal, The rest. was voted one of the tops by zagarts. Awful, cannot describe my meal served with canned peas and tomato paste from the can. $250. later ! Chinese around the corner was excellent and fresh just like china town... Enjoy! I hope this is useful..
*Quick tip- The natural history mus. stays open for imax movies. We saved viewing this mus. for nights going at around 4:30 pm walking around , then purchasing an Imax Movie.( T rex) Awful sandwiches ..Remember to stop before or after the movie -coral reef was pretty intresting...

Top Local Tips for Washington DC

Re; metro The metro is a great way to get around, however it is not as extensive as other major city underground transport so be prepared to walk...a long way! As with all metro systems the smell of vomit and urine is sometimes overwhelming. All that said. It was easy and cheap to get around on.

Nearby Dining for Washington Marriott Try the Blue Duck Tavern at the Hyatt (2 blocks away), GrillFish (2 blocks away) or La Chaumiere, in Georgetown (four-five blocks away).

My week of meals You can have a different nationality of food every night. Can never remembe names of places but here are a few choices. Left out of Hotel to corner of Walmart. If you go right - heading towards Georgetown there is a lovely Thai place and just going into Georgetown I sampled a great Ethiopian Retaurant. That was first and thoroughly enjoyed. Also on this road, turn right just past the fire station and you will see Bread and Chocolate - great, from simple bagel and cream cheese with ham to a full meal. Great staff too. Turn left at Walmart and you find a brilliant Chinese and further round a great Italian. Just remember if you ask for lemonade at all these places it is not fizzy but still.
