I can't believe this is a 2 star hotel. The rooms are very spacious, great location - about 1.25 mile to convention centre. Free d milk and delicious freshly baked cookies in the evening. The buffet breakfast is pretty ordinary - but free. One of the great finds was the attached Mackies Irish pub which had great atmosphere and amongst the best pub food I've tasted - we couldn't tear ourselves away!

Historical Traveller Reviews of The Quincy Hotel

Liked the Quincy very much

from marienat
I have a very positive comment about this hotel. Location and price are great. The room is huge and well decorated (it has been recently renovated and it is well done). And the bed... It is the best mattress I have ever had in an hotel. So relaxing. There is plenty of restaurants around and it is close to everything. I was there for business and I won't hesitate to stay there again for business or for vacation.

Not worth the hype or price

from tksmith20
A group of friends stayed at this hotel for a weekend in August. I was not impressed. The reception staff s helpful and friendly, and check in/out was very easy with no wait or extra charges. We were traveling with 5 one year olds, and had requested cribs in advance. The cribs (pack and plays) were already set up in our rooms upon arrival. We had requested our block of rooms to be next to one another, and they were able to accomodate this request. However, for the price we paid, I expeted a bit more.

The rooms were quite large, and the beds were very comfortable. After a long saturday at the National Zoo and sightseeing around DC, we were exhausted and slept well. We had a double room that had two quees sized beds and a large sectional/couch. The tv had a nice selection of channels and was fine. Our room also had a mini-kitchen with a full sized fridge, sink, stove and coffee maker. Although it was not used, it was a nice feature. The bathroom was small, with the toilet, sink and tub all in the bathroom itself. However there was a large vanity area outside the bathroom. The photos posted on this page are fairly accurate, however it was annoying that the ugly wallpaper and carpet did not coordinate with the bedding/decor at all. I may be too picky, but come on! The elevators also seemed old and musty.

My main complaints are that there isn't any sort of recreation facilities (work out room, pool, etc.) on site. Or a restaurant. There was a pub type place connected to the hotel, however it was more of a bar scene and not great. We had a 6:00 am flight home on Sunday morning and the hotel simply forgot our 3:45 am wake up call!!! When we ran downstairs to meet our ride who showed up expecting us to be waiting, the desk clerk acted like he had no clue!! He says can I help you with something, and I told him our wake up call would have been nice! Somehow it got mixed up and they had it set to call at 5:20. Because of this we missed our 6:00 am flight and were 5 hours delayed. Very very frustrating, especially traveling with a very small child. "room service" is a crappy local pizza place. What a joke.

For the price, I would have stayed somewhere equally convenient to the sights and the metro and had more amenities, such as the hyatt or the st. gregory. This hotel needs to step up, or lower their prices.

Great hotel! Safe/fun area close to metro

from NJprofessional
I loved my stay at the quincy. I stayed for 6 nights and would come back again! I wanted to book a hotel that would be comfortable, clean, in a safe area with things to do at all times of day/night and the quincy exceeded my expecations.
I was greeted by very friendly doormen, who took my car to the parking garage for me(BTW they only charge for full days in garage not half days) and carried my luggage upstairs. The front desk gave me an ethernet cord for the internet since the wireless signal wasn't that strong on the 10th floor. Internet was reliable from then on.
I listened to the complaints of past reviews not to stay on the alley side and to stay high up. My room was great! 10th floor on the corner, noise was never an issue. Bed is very comfortable, as is sectional. Room is Very large and felt VERY Clean, cute decor, shower pressure/temperature great, spacious closet. Many lighting options. Elevator was fast and never waited for it.
I used the free passes to Bally's, only 4 min walk. Bally's was great, huge gym and no waiting for machines and open very early and very late.
Quincy is 5 min walk to farragut north red line, very simple to navigate metro and figure out where you are. Starbucks and ABP on way to metro.
I was a female traveling alone for a conference and felt VERY safe in this area at all times of the day.
Great burrito place on 19th heading up towards dupont circle. Adams morgan walk isn't too bad in good shoes.
No surprise charges!
I paid for the hotel 3 months in advance and recieved an average nightly rate of $105(weekdays more expensive) from This is a very classy hotel in a great price range. Can't compare to others in price range.

Great location, stylish hotel

from Bedientes
My husband and I stayed at the Quincy for 3 nights while in town for a wedding. I was a little nervous about what we would find when we checked in after reading some less than glowing reviews (and I was suspicious of the price... it seemed so cheap for downtown DC!). We got to the hotel a little late, after a delayed flight. It was a short walk from the Blue/ Orange line Metro (Farragut West). The lobby was a bit warm (DC was just getting heated up for summer while we were there) and I was worried about the rest of the hotel. Our room was on the front of the building on the 8th floor. When we walked in, it was obvious that air conditioning wasn't on. After fiddling with the two controls, both on the unit and thermostat on the wall, I finally heard some signs of life from the AC. It worked just fine for the rest of our stay.

The rooms are nicely done in modern furniture and bedding. I thought the beds and linens were fairly nice. Our room (probably all rooms) had a small sectional sofa, which was nice for sitting in from on the TV and eating breakfast. The bathrooms are a little small, but for an older building, it is to be expected. There was a little area outside the bathroom with a counter and microwave where you can set toiletries and makeup if you need to.

I was very pleased with the hotel, and really enjoyed its central location in the city. We walked to Metro stations with no problem to get out to the suburbs and over to Georgetown. There is also a bus line called the Circulator that picks up near the hotel and goes from Union Station to Georgetown for $1 a person. The hotel desk has maps with bus stops on them. There were a plethora of eating establishments nearby the hotel, so we got breakfast from a different place every morning and never had to walk more than a block (Au Bon Pain was the best, and just a couple doors down from the hotel entrance). It really is close to some tourist attractions, if you enjoy some walking. We made a short day of walking to the White House and over to the East end of the Mall to see some memorials.

We didn't have any problems with noise from the dumpsters (since we were in the front of the building) and the street noise didn't reach us either.

I woudl highly recommend the hotel for people who want to stay in the city but not pay an arm and a leg for it. I personally really liked the decor as well, but I'm a sucker for stuff like that.

More kudos to the wonderful Quincy

from Lindamccat
Just have to add my kudos to the Qunicy. I just stayed there during a conference at the convention center. This hotel is the best deal in DC. I agree with the other recent comments, but also wanted to mention the charm and pleasantness of the staff. The decor is classy, clean and elegant. The Irish Pub next door is great but they are closed on Sundays. You can find other restaurants near by that are open. Extremely handy for the metro. The neighborhood feels safe to walk around in at night. There is a Borders and a Starbucks right across the street. Don't miss a cute little shop down the street, the Chocolate Mousse. They have an incredible collection of fun goodies plus chocolate.

Highly recommended

from Mike873
Very good downtown location, within 2 blocks of 2 different metro stations and in the downtown business district. Very large rooms. Fullsize refrigerator, sink, full size stove and oven, microwave, dishes and flatware in the kitchen. Reception staff very helpful. Hotel is renovated relatively recently and is clean. No breakfast in the hotel but there is an Au Bon Pain 2 doors down, and other options as well in the area.

I had a problem with a taxi driver affiliated with the hotel (didnt take us all the way to our destination and the 30% tip must not have been enough because oh, gee, he just couldnt seem to find enough change to give me) and the hotel manager dealt with it.

Parking options: hotel lot next door, lots in the area (most are closed in the evening and do not offer overnight parking), and in the street- we got a spot right outside the hotel from Saturday to Monday morning, zero cost.

I would definitely stay there again and recommend it.

excellent hotel in good location

from mnr18
A very nice room with a very very comfortable bed and nice sofas. The complimentary newspaper was a nice touch. The room and bathroom were very clean. Within walking distance from The Mall the metro station providing easy access from the airport and train station. The area felt very safe near lots of nice restaurants. Also, the staff were very helpful and friendly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Qunicy, not got any criticisms.

Good extended stay rate...noise prominent!

from worldtravelerjpn
A great extended stay deal if booked online directly through their website. Convenient to both Orange and Blue Metro lines. Area attractions include National Geographic museum, GW University, and sites recommended by the Spy Museum (note: NOT at the museum itself, but historical "spy sites").

Many great eateries/shops nearby: The Greek Deli, Naan and Beyond, Caribou Coffee to name a few. Only downside is many restaurants close at 4:00 pm M-F or aren't open on the weekends. However, not a major minus.

Room amenities were very spacious for the rate. Large couch, very comfortable bed, spacious workspace! Fridge and microwave were included. Front desk staff is very helpful and responsive.

We concur with previous reviewers that noise is prominent on both sides: street and backside. Street-side noise is constant and increases during work hours. Back-side noise is ridiculously loud as per the sanitation department! They dropped the dumpster on its side at 4:45 am and made a ruckus 6 of the 7 days of the week. Sound-proof glass should be added to the facility. Otherwise, solid hotel rate and convenient location. Advise earplugs to reduce the noise a few decibels!

Great Deal, Great Location

from b00mers00ner
Great hotel, close to Mall and shopping as well. Great linens, spacious rooms, courteous staff. If you need a ride to the airport ask the front desk, they can get you set up cheaper than a cab. Subway is within a few blocks also. For good eats head to Dupont Circle (short walk) or Georgetown (cab for about 12 bucks).

from dbgindy
Great staff & location. Size of the room was a plus as well.

The downside was the street noise from L street was very loud even 10 stories up.The elevators were a bit slow & the room & parts of the hotel could use some paint.
The big issue though was the AC. It was unseasonably warm in DC and the first 2 nights even though the AC was cranking out cool ( not cold ) air I could not get the room below 80. I complained after the first night but they were unable to fix the problem or move me.

Good value for the location & if the AC wasn't an issue I'd book there again without a second thought.

Top Local Tips for Washington DC

Sign is small. The first night we passed the hotel twice. The sign is small and conservative so drive slowly and look at the photo so you know what it looks like.

May as well walk Washington is easy and safe to walk around. It is fairly compact and easy to navigate.

the pub next door we had a great evening in the pub that is attached to the hotel. Would definately recommend it!
