Well worth the stay

We stayed here over Memorial Weekend. (We booked through Expedia so price was great and we still got a great room.) The rooms are very clean, very nice. We overlooked the garden which was fairly nice. It is just 10 minutes walking distance from the Foggy Bottom Metro center. I'd definitely recommend staying here. Service staff were very nice and helpful.

I stayed at this hotel when it was called "The Monarch" hotel and only paid about $99 a night to stay there. So, for $99 a night this hotel is fabulous. Beautifully appointed rooms and lobby. But, since they changed the name, and underwent a "renovation" by polishing the floors a bit, the price has skyrocketed. I would not spend $250 - $350 a night to stay at this hotel. I will say that the dinner I had in the hotel restaurant was one of the best dinners I've had -- and that's saying A LOT for a hotel restaurant. I trully experienced the best "scallop" - yes, that is a singular "scallop," I've ever had there. It was a $12 appetizer that I would order again because it was that good. Cooked to exquisite perfection. Hotel staff was nice for the most part. But did not offer to switch my room for another after I complained about hearing the ice machine in the hallway all night.

Great rooms + great service + great location = excellent stay

This is a wonderful place to stay when you're in DC. Rooms, service, location - what more can I say?

From check-in on, the service was top-notch. The staff is very well trained and the concierge is knowledgeable about nearby dining options - and of course is quick to call you a cab.

The rooms are (not surprisingly) absolutely spotless and well-appointed, with large bathrooms and comfortable mattresses. I slept very soundly!

Location is a plus too - easy walking distance to Georgetown, Dupont Circle and the Foggy Bottom metro. Right now, there's a building going up across the street at the corner of 24th and M, but I did not hear any of the sounds of construction during my stay. In any event, the construction should be complete within the next few months.

Room service is quite good, but with so many good restaurant options nearby, why bother? Then again, if you need to eat on the fly (perhaps while doing some work at the sizable desk), there are several tasty, though pricey, options on the menu.

The gym is one of the most impressive I've seen in a hotel. There's an extra charge for use.

All told, excellent hotel. I'd highly recommend the Fairmont DC to one and all.

Great Place to stay and eat

Everything in the hotel is four star. The room was perfect and the staff was very attentive. The food in the restaurants was not only great to eat. it was very beautiful to look at.

Elegant through and through

I stayed at the Fairmont the week of March 28th, 2005. The Fairmont Washington may very well have the most elegant lobby in DC. Not overly grand like the Willard, and much more posh than the Four Seasons, the public spaces of the Fairmont are the perfect match of comfort and style. Rooms were elegantly furnished with beautiful wood pieces, but the televisions were very small. The marble baths were large and well appointed. Service at the hotel was excellent, except for the propensity of the maids to be stingy with soap. The only possible hangup for somebody (not I) is the neighborhood. It is in a rather non-descript area of the city. Georgetown is a 10 minute walk down M street, and the nearest Metro stop (GWU Foggy Bottom) is a 8 minute walk down 24th. DuPont Circle is also about a 10 minute walk. Altogether, the Fairmont was a wonderful experience and an outstanding value. If you can snag a room here for less than $200.00, and don't mind walking a bit, this is a fabulous choice.

getting closer to the Ritz

I am currently staying at this hotel. First impressions: Somewhere below Ritz Carlton and way back from Four Seasons. Rooms are nice and very reasonably appointed. There are things though, that would be unthinkable for higher standards. I stayed in to finish a work and had 3 minor issues: a) the preprogrammed phone extensions were useless b) while getting ready to work, I pulled the chair closer to the desk, only to find out that the chair’s arm was coming off c) The guys at the front desk sent to my room a fruit and water courtesy which was addressed to a different guest, and it took me a 5 minute wait in the phone to let them know. As expected, they told me to keep the goodies, but if I didn’t call maybe a unpleased guest would still be waiting.
My room service was fast and accurate, with a very reasonable table set up, again a notch below the top players, but better than other similar players like the Intercontinental.
I’ve stayed at the Ritz in Pentagon City as well as Tyson Corner, at the Watergate, the Four Seasons and now the Fairmont, all in D.C.. How good do I rate it? It is a matter of prices. We got a very good deal and for the quality and service this is a winner, so depending on the rate you get I would say: close or under $200 don´t think it twice. Close to $300 go to the Ritz; above that figure is nothing but the Four Seasons. I hope this helps. P.S. A nice touch: They had plastic holders for shirt collars (2 sizes) which I keep misplacing when traveling.

Great overall hotel

We have stayed in many DC hotels. If you want to be on the Mall, stay at the Willard, but if prefer a top property with a great central locale, and a great value, the Fairmont is awesome. Excellent nearby breakfast and other restaurants. G'town is only a 10 minute walk. The mall is a 10-15 minute $7 ride. The metro is about a 7 minute walk. The room was recently reburbed and the service was excellent. The in-hotel restaurant was too expensive, considering so many good places to eat nearby that are far more reasonable. We paid $109 around cherry blossom time, but was worth far more.

Nice hotel, good conference rooms, I prefer other locations

The hotel was nice. Although some of the other reviews disagree, I did not care for the location. It is not near the subway, the monuments, capitol hill, etc. Mayflower Hotel on Connecticut and Marriott Wardman are both at subway stations. One reviewer remarked it was walking distant to Georgetown, which is true, but it is a bit of a hike depending what part of Georgetown you are referring to.
I attended a conference at the hotel and the conference facilities were very nice.

Extraordinary stay at The Fairmont!

Stayed at The Fairmont July 2nd to July 5th and had the most fantastic time! First of all, the hotel is in a great location, walking distance to Georgetown and Dupont Circle. Service upon check-in was very welcoming, from the doorman to the receptionist. The hotel has a luxurious, comfortable lobby and has an overall classy feel without being stuffy. Rooms are stylish, very spacious with beautiful colour schemes and a step out balcony. Bathrooms also offer plenty of space and all the amenities you would expect. One person who really made our weekend was Andre at the concierge desk. He has a wealth of local knowledge to provide you with tips on what to do and where to go. He got us last minute reservations at some very hard to get in restaurants and offered just real, sincere service. One thing that surprised us in a negative way was the $ 10 per person fee for using the swimming pool / health club. True, the facilities are nice (although the pool isn't really that big), but I think this should be complimentary for hotel guests in a hotel of this standard. All in all, we would highly recommend The Fairmont in Washington!! We will definitely return!

This hotel is in a great location. Walking distance easily to Georgetown and Dupont Circle. The actual hotel room is nice, very well appointed and comfortable. There really are no rooms with any views due to the nature of building specifications in the city. However, I would definatley request a room as far away from the ice machine as possible, as it was very loud even though I was around the corner from it. They could be a little more detail oriented; room service woke me up at 5:00 AM with a delivery.....they had the wrong room. I couldn't get back to sleep and it ruined my day the next day. Also they have a great health club in the basement so I went to work out there and discovered a steep fee. Also we wanted the room split on two credit cards, went to the desk and had that done. When we got our bills, I was charged twice and my friend not at all. Restaurant food and service were just OK, prices were very steep.

Top Local Tips for Washington DC

my feet!! Make sure to stop and sit every now and then, or grab a metro or the circulator bus!! I didn't and my feet were killing me after 2 days! Just so much you wanna see in this town!

Metro Center From Fairmont to Metro Center was easy trip. On the return, we thought we were on the orange/blue line but instead were on the red line. Turns out that the orange/blue line at Metro Center is two stories down... So, take two sets of escalators. Also note that the ticket machines don't give change. Your train pass is printed for the amount that you insert in the machine and the help desk doesn't give refunds either. The help desk told one tourist to stand beside the machines and see if he could sell his $10 metro pass to a passerby.

Try the Metro Even if you are unsure, you can call the Metro customer service and they will tell you exactly what train / bus to take, etc. and how much the fare will be. Excellent transportation and safe.
