Front desk staff was surly. Wait staff in restaurant also unpleasant. Hotel and rooms were an 8. People a 4.
I've been in a lot of hotels; would not again choose
the Churchill on purpose.

Charming boutique-style hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from a two night stay at The Churchill. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very large with a partitioned office area (nice if one person needs to stay up late and work). The bathroom tile & fixtures were a bit dated, but everything was very clean. This is a good hotel for adults, but I would not recommend it for children. There is no pool, and the only vending area requires a room key because it is located in the cardio room. One other plus is that it is within easy walking distance to several excellent restaurants and bistros. (We enjoyed the Lauriol Plaza on the corner of T street and 18th.)

Stayed for 3 nights in early April/04 and got a lot more room for the money than we had expected. Huge room with another separate room the size of a small bedroom (work area) with full size table and chairs. Room was clean, quiet, and beds were comfortable. Our room had no view, but that's inconsequential to me anyway. Ice and vending machines located in the fitness room - luckily no one was in there when I loaded up with chips and candy bars. Excellent location (directly across from the "Hinkley" Hilton) - easy walk to Dupont Circle & Metro. Plenty of restaurants, little shops, and interesting buildings to look at along the way. Small lounge/bar next to restaurant. Friendly staff. We would most definitely stay there again.

Expect no frills... but good price.

We too stayed at the hotel for Easter of 2004. The rate was reasonable through Expedia. However, don't expect too much luxury. Everything is cut back to the bare minimum. Can't complain but don't go in with hopes of accommodations other than the bare necessities. Note: Gregory was very hospitable and a real asset to the team!

Lovely hotel

We stayed at the Churchill Hotel for Easter weekend. I was pleasantly surprised by the staff and room. The room was very large and a separate office area. The hotel was clean and neat and the staff was very friendly! The hotel is near many shops and restaurants. The metro is only a few blocks away; the only drawback was walking uphill back to the hotel after a long day of sightseeing. Overall, we had a great time at the Churchill.

Noisy, Cramped Bathroom, No Free Shuttle

from A TripAdvisor Member
I visited DC and stayed at the Churchill from 4/3/04 to 4/10/04. This is one busy intersection in the city. The police, fire department, and ambulance service must all be housed within a few blocks from here.
Every night, throughout the night, sirens were a common disruption. If you are a light sleeper, this place is not for you. I do realize this is not the fault of the hotel but for busy plans for the next day, you will be tired. The front desk and concierge service is the same so you must wait in line to get info on tourist sites while others are checking in.The room was very spacious and the reading area was very nice but the bathroom is another story. The toilet is positioned up against the bathroom sink. I had to remove to toilet paper roll to be able to have a seat. The hotel and room was very clean. Bottled water was delivered each night to the room by the staff. The staff were very pleasant to work with.NO SHUTTLE SERVICE!!!This was one reason that I chose to stay at the hotel. In the information that I researched in looking for a hotel, it said that they provided free shuttle service.
This was even printed on my hotel conformation. I asked about it and was told that they did not know anything about it. I offered to get my info to show and they said that would be helpful. I gave them my paperwork which stated "FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE" and they would not honor it and said "sorry we do not provide shuttle service". This is not acceptable to me (false advertising)!Pricing for the hotel was comparable to others that I researched. The metro station was 4 blocks away which was not too bad as long as you do not mind walking up hill 4 blocks at the end of a long day.

Fantastic place if you are in the right room

My stay at the Churchill was a true delight. I was assinged an enormous room on the 7th floor. The location was great and the staff was very friendly. However, I have also read other reivews of people complaining about noisy and small rooms. Before my arrival, I called to insist I was assigned a large room with a nice view to make sure that didn't happen. I highly recommend this hotel.

Nice Place to Stay

We stayed at the Churchill for one night while sightseeing. It's in a
good location, not far from the Smithsonian/Capitol area. It was only 9
degrees when we went, so we opted for a cab ($7).
We got a great deal from the Churchill website including breakfast and parking for $109.

We were given a corner room (On CT Ave). The room was huge: a kingsize
bed, and a separate office area. Large windows with a great view of the
city. The Decor of the room was nice, rededorated recently. The
bathroom had a vanity sink area, and a separate room for the shower and
toilet. As one other reviewer mentioned, there are no coffee makers or
refridgerators in the rooms. The dining area is small, but cozy. The
breakfast food was good. The front desk staff was friendly and
accommodating. They only complaint is that they are a little
understaffed. There was one "bellhop" who did everything including
valet park the cars. So if there is more than one person checking in,
you either have to take care of your luggage yourself, or wait. For the
price, this hotel is a good value, and I would definitely stay there

Clean, comfortable and friendly

Anne,Ned Gerry and I stayed at the Churchill early Dec 03 for a few days on a pre-Chrsitmas break. The foyer and reception area were dissapointing but 'Olivier' on reception made up for that . He was/is very friendly and gave us an upgrade to a massive bedroom with separate lounge and study . The rooms were a bit dark - at the back of the hotel- but what the hell - we weren't in it very long . They were spotlessly clean , huge comfortable beds , cosy lounge - great . But don't have breakfast in the restaurant , the food's good enough , but the service was sullen , indifferent and slow. But don't let that put you off and say hello to 'Olivier ' for us. Linda

I really liked this hotel, I was plesantly surprised. It was cute, clean, charming, and a great surprise-- very spacious for such a great price, $69.00 (I found from Expedia). The location was excellent too for those wanting to get a nice D.C. experience.

Amazing for the price!

We stayed here for a weekend in September. For $78 a night we could not have asked for more. The room was HUGE! 2 double beds and a pull out bed in the living room! We had 5 people in one room and we were not cramped at all. Absolutely would stay here again. If you can get a good rate, go for it!!!

Top Local Tips for Washington DC

Head to Adams Morgan Very trendy semi bohemian area...great little ethnic restaurants and great night life (street life)

Take the 5A if you're flying into Dulles- it's cheap! The 5A bus line runs Express from the Rosslyn Station to Dulles International Airport and back for $3. This is a great way save money on a cab or the inconvenience of a "shared ride".

Great zoo there. The National Park zoo is not to be missed. It's within walking distance of the Churchill Hotel, and it's one of the rare locations in the US where you can see Panda bears.
