Wyndham City Center was mostly all that I expected !
Before I begin, make sure you don't stay on the side of the building that faces the gas station/bar/chinese restaurant as it is noisy on weekends. Also be patient with the front desk staff as most I encountered didn't speak good clear english. The lady at the bell desk was VERY helpful and did speak good english. There was one bell hop who was in my opinion the best ! His name , Francious !! (Fran-swa)..just loved him !! Anything I needed and it was done..Apon arrival I was let into a small but very comfortable appointed room on the executive level (free snacks drinks and breakfast) The music was playing softly on the radio and refreshments were waiting for me on the desk. The room colors were pleasing and the bed heavenly ! Better then my bed at home. If your watching your vacation weight there is even a scale in the bathroom which I used to weigh my luggage so I wouldn't have to pay extra with the airlines, & it worked !(too much shopping)!! Everything was in close proximity and fairly easy to find, Lincoln memorial, WW2 memorial the white house etc.. I found some of the streets to be a little goofy so I feel it's best to take a map just in case. Street vendors are a plenty near the white house and some will barter. We got a few bucks off a sweatshirt..parking is hard to find around the white house durring the week. If it's comfort, style and a bit of elegance you seek I surely suggest the Wyndham..I don't think you'll be dissapointed.
I will stay here again..The price was right.

First Class to Me

from reviewit24u
I got this hotel off the Wyndham website for a AAA price of $80 per night in October and was so happy! The rooms are very clean, and they provide luxury beds and linens, awesome pillows and mattresses and cleanliness in the rooms. There are lots of extras in the room, like the toiletries, makeup mirrors, and robes. The front desk was very helpful and pleasant and the lobby was well furnished and the perfect place to sit and people watch. The hotel held our baggage until our room was ready as well. The location was great for sightseeing too - the metro stop wasn’t too far - maybe a ½ mile? And there were lots of eateries and convenience stores nearby. I was very happy here and would stay again in a heartbeat.

Wonderful place to stay

I stayed at the Wyndham for about a week. The buffet breakfast was the same every morning. It was good though. I think that the staff was quite polite and helpul. The room was very nice and clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Really fine hotel

I was so pleased with this hotel. We got this hotel for an incredible price on Priceline. We knew that the area would be good since we have been to DC many times. From the mixed reviews I was expecting a marginal experience. Imagine our surprise with the wonderful way we were treated! The hotel lobby is very nice. Spacious with many plush seating areas. One drawback is that there is not a bar in the lobby so that you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine here. From the moment we checked in, the staff treated us like valued guests. The first room we had was on the small side. Very clean and attractive but the heat was not working well. They changed our room to a larger one. This room was also very clean and attractive. As I said, the staff was very pleasant. Brian was especially helpful and was one of the nicest front managers that I have yet to encounter. As noted in other reviews, this hotel is in a great location. Foggy Bottom metro is a few blocks away and Georgetown is a 10 minute walk. There were a few good restaurants in the area. We all enjoyed our meal at Luigi's. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Never Again

from lkaran
The hotel desk staff was rude. We called twice to request 2 double beds and they gave us a hard time telling us that since we booked through a 3rd party that they couldn't help us even though Priceline says that a customer should call the hotel with such requests. They finally agreed on the second call to give us the 2 doubles and when we got there, they said that they didn't have them and gave us the same run-around that they did on the phone. One of us had to sleep on a cot.

I honestly felt that they treated us like 2nd class guests because we paid so little for the room through a 3rd party. My thought is that if they thought it was too little, they shouldn't have offered it. I've stayed in other hotels for a good price and was never treated this way. I'd stay in those places again for more than what I paid. I will never stay at this place again, which is a shame, since we're planning another DC trip soon.

Another thing was that we got stuck in a smoking room that didn't have a window that opened and the room smelled disgusting.

The location was pretty good near the Metro but that wasn't enough to make me ever stay here again.

good hotel for the price

Visited Washington October 22-25th, 2004 with 2 teenagers and 2 adults. Hotel was in really nice area, Foggy Bottom, across from the Ritz and within walking distance to Georgetown . Metro not too far, a few blocks, seems further after a day of sightseeing. Hotel staff was okay, same as any other hotel in Washington, some staff helpful, some not. Nice hotel, nice room. The entire hotel appeared clean and renovated, not an older hotel as I expected. The only problem were the beds, they were so small. Could not fit two people in each bed. Much smaller than any chain hotel. Would suggest 1 king bed for 2 people or 2 beds, one for each person else you will not get any sleep! The lack of sleep did not make for an enjoyable weekend and I usually have no problem sleeping in hotel rooms. We found a low rate through AAA. Except for the beds, great hotel for the price. We also enjoyed the fact that we were not woke up by a rattling cart or a knock on the door early in the morning in order for our room to be cleaned. Actually got a phone call later in the day asking if we wanted any service.

Top quality

This really was a joy. The rooms are very good quality. Spotless in every way and the staff do a job of cleaning them.

The bar is - unlike most American hotels - very good, with a decent atmosphere and a very decent barman.

The staff generally are fine and leave you alone.

Don Shulas steakhouse looked interesting, but was very expensive, so we stayed clear of that.

The location is pretty good actually, although the walk to the underground can be a struggle on the way back.

But overall this is worth it; A nice relaxing stay was had by all!

Better than expected

I got 3 rooms for 1 night at this hotel for $55 each on priceline and was very pleased when I arrive. It's much newer than I expected. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are marble.

Great Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
My father and I just got back from a wonderful trip to Washington DC. We stayed between July 17th to the 20th. The Wyndham City Center Hotel was great. It was just what we were looking for. We got a great price for it at $65 per night through hotwire.

The hotel has a great lobby very clean. The location was perfect. Across the street from the Marriott and Ritz-Carlton. About 5 blocks from Dupont and/or Foggy Bottom Metro.

Don't pay the $26 per night for parking...we found meters all around the hotel on the street. Free on weekends and after 6pm. In a safe neighborhood too. Only about a mile to Georgetown District.

The room was nice. Comfortable and very clean. The bed was just right, the pillows may have been too soft though. The room has it's own cooling unit that can be adjusted.

This was all-in-all a great hotel and I would stay here again in a heartbeat and I would recommend this to ANYONE going to DC for a vacation.

great hotel...customers were insufferable

from franklin411
Great experience! Very nice hotel. Good 3 stars, and I got a great rate on priceline. Good location close to the Metro, Foggy Bottom, Dupont Circle, and Georgetown. Room was very clean and the staff was terrific. I did, however, see quite a few terrible travelers, which the staff did their best to satisfy. 99% of travelers will like this hotel. The other 1% wouldn't be happy in the Taj Mahal.
