Nothing special at the Rouge

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed here and found nothing really special about the place. It has some nice features, but nothing that stands out. Location was good though. Also, in response to the last comments, this hotel was in fact formerly a Quality Inn.

Rouge Martinis

from A TripAdvisor Member
You like red, you'll love this place.....These Martinis I must say were off the hook! When you get there, don't just ask for a "Rouge Martini", they have tons of them! Very good too, try "The Adultress" is all I can say! .. that's their signature too ..Sitting areas are amazing. Just pick and choose to suit your mood, even foot stools! talk about comfort .. music in the background with a big screen TV right behind the bar.If you're lucky when you do go, the hypnotiq girls will be there to give free shots!! Tres, tres debaucher!!

Felt like a funky, dressed up comfort inn

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Hotel Rouge for 6 nights while attending a conference in DC. Found the hotel staff to be average. Not a room service type guy so can't comment. Bar was happening on some nights/ happy hours, but was pretty small, smokey, and with limited hours (probably appropriate for the size hotel though). I did however like the decor of the bar.

Overall the hotel decor was trendy/ funky-but fell short of what I was expecting. Not even close to what you would see in the W hotel chain which many "boutique" hotels attempt to emulate. The hotel, furniture, wallpaper, ceilings, and floors all showed serious signs of wear.
Almost felt like the hotel used to be a comfort inn and was just a little dressed up--no amount of red or black decor could cover this up however.

As for the room-aside form wear and tear issue-it was clean, spacious, with excellent housekeeping, a comfortable bed, and a nice TV. Cost between 150-189 for large deluxe king room. I think 120-150 would be more approriate for this hotel in dc

I like the Kimpton chain, but I would not stay at the Rouge again. Not angry but was just not as nice as other kimpton hotels I have visited.
I would instead opt for the Hotel Monaco--the prices were not that different at this hotel and it was in a better condition.

Pleasantly Surprised

from A TripAdvisor Member
I really wasn't sure what to expect, and was kind of expecting the worst. However, I stayed at the Hotel Rouge for 5 nights and was pleasantly surprised. While the hotel theme was not appealing to me personally, I found a clean room and very helpful and pleasant staff. I was also surprised that the broadband internet connection in the room is free. It is not too far to the Metro Station (Farragut North). Be sure to take advantage of the complimentary Red Wine or Red Stripe Beer, M-F from 5:00-6:00 pm.

We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Rouge

from russwife
I wanted to surprise my husband with a romantic getaway for his birthday on Dec. 26. I read some of the reviews of the Hotel Rouge and decided this might be the place for us. I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was just a 7 minute cab ride to the MCI Center and other downtown sights. The hotel was very clean and decorated at a terrific contemporary style. The staff was very courteous and nice. We parked our car at the hotel, which has it's own garage. That was very convenient for us. Our room was very romantic. The color scheme radiated fun! The bar rouge conveniently located in the lobby was very chic. The apple martinis were terrific. Our child-free weekend was truly a romantic one. Thanks to Hotel Rouge and their excellent staff.

Comfortable Room

=Very Friendly staff. The room was clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Rogue and would stay there if we ever visit Washington again.Stephen

Aging hipster

from PlainVanilla
Kinda like me - An aging hipster. Still sort of funky, but a little the worse for wear & tear. Stayed there Dec 03. I have to sign on to some of the previous comments. Interior not bad, but slightly run down. Room was good; comfortable beds, nice Sony TV (a little limited in the channel options, though). Bar was too small (but it's not a big hotel, so I don't have a problem with that), and (I thought) overpriced. I didn't find the staff that bad, but not that good, either. Breakfast not included (Starbuck's coffee in the room, as advertised, though).
Street parking is a little hard to find in that area, valet parking around $24/night. At $99/night (what I paid), worth it. More than that - I don't know.

great for familiy with pre-teens

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed in the play room suite with my 11 year old son, and he loved it so much he didn't want to leave the hotel. The zebra bathrobs were a big hit. The beds were unbelivably comfortable.

A good place for yogis

from A TripAdvisor Member
It's so funky that at first, I thought I was too old to stay there. But what a great place, clean and you can get a yoga mat and do yoga in your room while watching a yoga video. The martinis at Bar Rouge are terrific, though the 9 naked statues outside are a bit much.

Oh, it was not good

from A TripAdvisor Member
Really poor front desk staff, room service that took forever to arrive (and the choices after 9 pm were unbelievably limited, there was no menu in my room, and the restaurant staff had a terrible time communicating what was available), and a bordering-on-seedy ambiance added up to a bad trip of a visit. Odd, too, since the Hotel Monaco in Seattle, which is in the same hotel group, is one of my all-time favorite places to stay.

Top Local Tips for Washington DC

Churches - Theodore Roosevelt Just a few steps south of P Street NW on 15th is a church (Reformed Tradition) where Theodore Roosevelt worshipped regularly. 1405 15th Street NW

Hot Dates, Great Rates @ Kimpton Hotels Kimpton's boutique hotels are usually fairly expensive, but if you go to their website and click on "Hot Dates, Great Rates", you can usually get a discount. We usually stay at The Rouge in DC for about $125 per night. That's a pretty great deal for a hotel with such a great location.

Meridian Park Great restored park tucked away on 16th St (above Rouge).
