Historical Traveller Reviews of Hilton Embassy Row Hotel

A very good hotel experience for me

from Marie715
My review would have been a 5 star review but I did experience 2 minor problems. One, I like another reviewer, experienced the alarm going off unexpectedly on both nights. After the first night of this happening, we stopped at the front desk and asked them to be sure to have the alarm turned off for that evening. This did not happen. So both days we were woken up at 5:00am with an alarm. The second minor mishap is that at about 2pm we asked the concierge to book us a reservation at Tuscana restaurant for 6:30pm that evening. He promised to call us and confirm this. He never did. When we saw him he said that he had left the message at the wrong room. Ok- whatever. But that is a very simple request that should have been able to be filled with no problems.

On to the good stuff... Excellent, excellent location. Literally 1 block to the Metro. It was nice to stay in a neighborhood setting. Lots of choices for restaurants and all of the were excellent. For a quick bite to eat, I recommend the Wrapper Works restaurant.

The room was beautifully appointed. Small but I wasn't expecting large. The complimentary bottled water each day was nice.

The staff was very friendly.

I would stay at this hotel again.

A lesser Hilton

from Anonymous_Tourist
We've just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel. And the rating of "okay, but some problems" accurately describes our experience.

As for the "OK" part, the hotel is in a lovely area of Dupont Circle, a brief walk to the Metro, which makes seeing DC quite simple. There's a nearby CVS for any forgotten travel essentials, several restaurants of varying degrees of price and a few bookstores as well.

So the Hilton is in a pleasant location...

But some problems included an unexpected 6am wakeup call, a 7am alarm clock going off and a showerhead that fell off the first time I tried using it. The toilet bowl didn't have a lid and the bathroom also didn't have much space to place items such as eyeglasses or pajamas while showering.

I can forgive the shower head slipping off, really I can but a 6am wake-up call followed by the alarm clock going off an hour later was highly interruptive.

With that said, the staff was professional and friendly, room service always sporting a smile when delivering a 40 dollar plus breakfast for two.(The breakfast was tasty and at that cost, tasty is a requirement!)

There's an outdoor pool but it was too cool for any pooling at the end of March.

A fitness room exists but I didn't have time to investigate as I had enough exercise walking around the Mall.

Weird, weird and then weird

Wake up call was late. Bathroom ..way too small. Also, I was billed for $1.90 for "phone calls". I explained that we only used the phone once to order pizza..one night. That any other phone useage was with a calling card. One of the phones....worked then not. Getting back to the $1.90..the desk called me about the $1.90 three times. Even after I was told that it was "removed" from the room bill. Then someone was at the door..I was in the bathroom...they started to open the door and I met that person as they opened the door. It was about the $1.90 AGAIN !!! Tell me why they would send someone up to the room to go into the room for $1.90 ? Was the guy going to look around for $1.90 ? Never, ever stay there again. Did not feel safe after that. When I checked out..not a peep about $1.90 !! Also, the door card quit working on day two.

Good Value on Hotwire

I paid $72 for what I would call a junior room. It was plenty for me, would have been cramped if my husband had come, too. The walls are definitely on the thin side, I could hear the housekeeping staff knocking on every door (starting at 7 am). I wouldn't opt to stay there at full price, but at $72 I would grab it ever time.

Location is 5-star, staff is very professional. Parking is $25/nt, which is normal in this part of the city. Don't even think about parking on the street. You're in the diplomatic district and you risk ticket/towing. They are more vigilent in this area.

Definite favorite of DC

I am also in the hotel busineses and I loved the service I received here at the Hilton Embassy Row as well as appreciated the fact that I was in the same industry. The staff was great, the beds were comfortable and I loved the buffet breakfast each morning down in the Restaurant, such a great variety!!! Not only did the conceirge help me with directions around Dupont Circle, but he even gave me his copy of the Washington Post so I wouldn't have to buy one at CVS. :)

Excellent Choice

My family and I stayed at the Hilton Embassy Row in December and our stay was extraordinary. From the time we checked in to the time we checked out, the service was impecable. The rooms were spotless and was the perfect resting place after our trip to all of the great sites.
The location of the hotel is perfect. It is within miles of all of the wonderful sites and you can actually see the Washington monument and the capitol building from the hotel.
The lobby is beautiful and really makes you comfortable the moment you walk in. I would recommend this to anyone that needs a 5-star hotel in the Washington D.C. area.

Look forward to my next visit

I live in CT but travel to DC often for business and also to visit family and friends. I have stayed in many DC hotels and have to say that the Hilton Washington Embassy Row is one of the better properties I have stayed in. I am a picky person and have many special requests and the front desk is always willing to go the extra mile to accomodate my needs and are pleasant and not snipy about it. I also enjoy the atmosphere of the hotel...they just remodeled many areas of the hotel and it is a great change. The location is another plus, the businesses I visit are in the Dupont Circle area therefore it is just a quick walk, and when I need to travel to other places in DC or NOVA the Metro is right there for me to hop on as well. All in all I am really satisfied with this property and look forward to my next visit.

Great Hotel

A fantastic boutique hotel and the best location Washington DC has to offer. When I arrived, I was greated with a great smile. My rooms was very clean and nicely decorated. Great valet parking and no wait. A nice lobby bar to enjoy a cocktail before going out in Embassy Row. The METRO being next to the hotel is fantastic. Highly Recommend the hotel.

Horrible Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
Maybe I expected more from a Hilton? This was the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel and will certainly not return.

I arrived on a Sunday afternoon - shorts, t-shirt. When I went to check in the gentleman at the front desk seemed to be talking down to me; very unattentive - almost rolling his eyes when I questioned why I could not park my own car.

This feeling continued for the week - not one friendly person.

Then the final night I had a problem. The men in the room next to mine were carrying on fairly loudly (although with the thin walls, you could here about everything). Then I could smell the cigarette smoke coming from that room - I am in a no smoking section. I went to the front desk and they told me they would send security up. The phone rang 10 minutes later, but it did not help. Another half hour of this and I went back to the front desk. The gentleman told me he sent someone up AND called them (Lie #1). He came up with me, tapped on their door as I went into my room. I distinctly heard him say "you cannot be smoking in here" - he then comes to my room telling me they don't even smoke! (lie #2). I ended up having to place a wet towel under the door adjoining the other room.

Horrible experience - loved DC, but hated the hotel.

This hotel is a dog. Over our three day stay there, we experienced the following: broken phone; broken pool; sheets that would not stay tucked in for longer than 30 seconds because the mattress was being supported on an elegant duct tape-lined piece of plywood and did not hold the sheets in place; stained and dirty floors, furniture and woodwork; holes in the blankets; malfunctioning door locks and internet access in the "business center" (1 computer); first room we were given looked out on a ventilation shaft; concierge who spent his time in the TV room; non-functioning lamps; small, dingy room. Hotwire rates this hotel as a 4-star, so I do not advise using Hotwire for a Dupont Circle hotel. Or pick a two-star hotel and get something decent.
