I try to stay at this hotel whenever I am in Washington DC. The staff is helpful, polite and courteous. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Restaurant has a great selection and fantastic service.

In the heart of it all!

First time to Washington DC, we chose the Hamilton Crowne as part of a vacation package to celebrate our 8th Wedding Anniversary. We flew in to BWI airport which is *Gulp* a $65 cab fare to the hotel!! Don't do it! Take the bus to the Metro and ride the green line in, that trip costs about $4 (Wish the hotel would have told us about that when I called, but thankfully they told us about it when we left).

The rooms are beautiful! The spa robes weren't in the room but a quick call to the front desk gets you the most wonderful spa robes imaginable! We loved them so much we purchased a pair! The staff was friendly and helpful, and the Concierge even loaned me her desk to check up on my business work. (Internet is only available on the top 4 floors of the hotel).

You can walk everywhere from this hotel (And we did!) The White House is only a couple of blocks away, and the Metro station is right across the street.

I loved this trip and I loved this hotel, I can't imagine staying anywhere else!

The hotel itself is really nice, great color scheme, nice linens, clean rooms etc...perfect location in relation to everything. The staff was super friendly and I would definitely return to this hotel!

The WORST experience. It took us TWO and a HALF HOURS to get into our room. The first room we received was occupied by another family when we opened the door. The second room had 2 standard beds when we reserved a king a month prior. The third room was a handicapped room which they said was the only king bed left, but then changed their minds and found us a regular king room 40 minutes later after telling US we need to be patient after our 2 1/2 hour wait. When we finally got into our room, we had to hurry to get dressed for our reservations in the hotel restaurant, 14K. This was experience was almost as bad as the check-in was. I ordered a $30 steak, well-done. after 30 minutes, the steak came out and was medium rare, but my boyfriend's steak was fine. I sent my steak back to be cooked more and after 40 minutes and no steak, I went to the host and told him to take the steak off our check and just bring us the bill. He said he was going to check on it right then - which was the third time I had heard that. He came back ten minutes later and said the chef had made this one just for me. Went I cut into the meat, it was bloody and even more rare than the first one. I was almost in tears at this point because our Valentine's day was ruined. My boyfriend's check was paid for by the restaurant and we left. It was now 9:15pm on Valentine's evening and we are walking around DC trying to find a place where we can get in without reservations to eat. This was the worst experience I have ever had. I was in tears because our special romantic Valentine's was ruined. For the amount you pay for a room - you do not get what you pay for. The rooms are small and cramped, unlike the pictures on the website. There were no "plush royal blue spa robes" in the bathrooms. Parking fees are outrageous - $26 per night!! I would save the money and go to another hotel where you get what you pay for and can enjoy yourself without sitting in the lobby for 2 and a half hours waiting for a room.

Visited D.C. right after Christmas and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Spent three nights at the Crowne Plaza and was extremely satisfied with the hotel and staff (and I have stayed at some pretty high end hotels around the world). I got a good rate ($89 a night including complete breakfast for two) because it was offseason, but found the hotel to be worth much more. Location was great. Literally a block and a half from the subway and within short walking distance from many attractions. Rooms were nice. A little small, especially the bathroom, but decorated very nicely; the bed was very comfortable. As far as noise goes, it is a city. I was upgraded to the 14th floor and heard no noise, but I can see how someone from a small town staying on one of the bottom floors can hear street noise. Myself, being from NYC, I am used to that. I was also suprised to get a call from the front desk my first night asking if I had any questions, concerns or if there was simply anything they could do for me. I had no problems, but it was a nice touch. Overall, I was extremely happy with the hotel and would recommend to anyone.

Went to DC on a whim just to get away for a bit. Found hotel and great rate (70 bucks) via this site. Approx. 1.5 blocks from Metro. Like most all the other reviews, found the staff to be quite courteous and helpful. (even though there was a 6 deep line at check-in) I had read some "internet rate horror stories" but the room was neat, clean, cozy (also read, small). Bathroom the same, but for an overnighter, just right. It did, however, overlook an alleyway which led to a fire station, so yes, there was some noise but it subsided around midnight.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza Hamilton 3 days, with two adults and two children. We got a package deal with Midwest Vacations, so we felt that we got a great price. We took a cab from the airport, and did not have to deal with the parking rates that others mentioned. The lobby was small, but very nice, and everything was very clean. The room was on the small side, but the beds were SO comfortable and we really were only there to sleep... The rest of our trip was spent walking everywhere. With the high cab rates it was nice being walking distance from the White House, and so close the the metro. We packed a lot into 3 days, and when we were at the hotel we were very comfortable. The bathroom was small, without the big vanity I like... but it was well appointed and clean. We did not eat at the hotel, so we didn't have any extra high charges... Overall, we would stay here again, especially if the price is right.

Okay if sleep is not a priority....

This is a very nice hotel as far as decor and location go. Staff was very pleasant and attentive. Unfortunately, I did not sleep much during the two nights spent there last weekend. The street noise is the worst I've ever experienced - sirens, horns and shouting all night long. And we were on the 7th floor. A call to the front desk informed us that all rooms in the hotel are equally noisy. Also, there were no robes or internet access as advertised. Next time we'll stay in a quieter neighborhood close to a metro station.

THE PROS: Thick, sumptious beds with fine linen sheets and feather pillows. Great location to Metro and walking distance (8blks) to National Mall/Smithsonians. DC Coast Restaurant across street is outstanding dining. The consierge/doorman/maid service was excellent.THE CONS: Very small bathroom with NO counterspace. Very noisy at night..near firestation, plus night construction was going on including jack-hammering at 4:30 am!! No amenities in room except small coffee pot. No continental breakfast unless you've paid premium rate!!.DISAPPOINTMENTS: We reserved a room with king bed and were put with 2 doubles. They made us wait an hour to accomodate. When shown new room the bellman reported it was a less desirable location due to noise than the first room. Could it be worse!! Hotel advertised Bathrobes..there were none, in either rooms.If you get a cheap deal this hotel may be worth it..I wouldn't go back again.

We checked in having stayed in D.C. a few times before, thinking that since the Crowne hotels are part of the Inter-Continental chain, they would be of high standard, likewise. Well, the first problem we encountered was the MANDATORY parking fee's of a whopping $24.00 a day!! We were told by the desk clerk that it was mandatory, "like it or not"! That was after he answered four phone calls while checking us in and we had reservations so we should have been given priority, not to mention we are Priority Club members!! I guess it makes no difference here though. We found our check-in experience a rude one!

We were given a room in front, where we heard the road crew loud and clear ALL night long! Very nice......

Then, when it came to breakfast, we had a rough time trying to convince the waitstaff that our room rate included breakfast. I don't think they like that!

The internet serice they had was zilch on the computer provided and when we asked about another alternative we were told we would have to pay $9.95 just to check our email for 10 minutes! Needless to say, we went to Kinko's.

We were not sorry to leave and, well, after the high price to park our rented car....... we won't be back!

Great Place!

We stayed a week at the Crowne Plaza in late August 03, with a superb rate thanks to a lucky Hotwire buy ($68/night!) We were very pleased with the quality of the room, and the location couldn't be beat. The metro is less than a five minute walk, and we were able to jog down by the white house (3 blocks) in the mornings. The other reviews are correct in their pan of the parking situation. I did get a $50 parking ticket after the third day parking on the street overnight and came out AHEAD over the $24 per night that the hotel was charging. (After the ticket, I gave up and used the valet- the service was fine, but what you are really paying for is just the parking premium in this area of DC.) We found the hotel's restaurant to be overpriced, but DC Coast just across the street was superb, as were several other lunch and dinner locations within an easy walk or metro ride. The rooms were beautifully appointed and would be appropriate at a hotel costing four times more. The service was responsive and professional. We will definitely stay again!

Top Local Tips for Washington DC

Think ahead DC is a great tourist location if you think ahead. It has gotten progressively more grotty and unsafe, especially after dark. If you are with children or older persons, plan where to take breaks and consider walking or taking the subway, and an excellent trolly ride (good for midday childnaps on your lap while you sight see too). Parking and driving are NOT advised, and parking in DC is very expensive at all hotels (many not allowing come and go). Contact your local congress person for insider tickets and advice ( and a hello!) The whole of the Smithsonian (all buildings including the zoo!) are free, and the Library of Congress is a terrific surprise to most people. AVOID the aquarium- pricey and nothing more than 2 aligators in a crumbling basement! The Spy museum is fun, and kids of all ages like it (older folks not so much, there is no place to rest once you enter the maze).

The Brickskeller Avoid the long wait for the upstairs restaurant by making an immediate right after you enter the front door. Open the wooden door and walk downstairs. All the beer in the world, decent pub food, and usually no line.

Washington by Night Great tour - even in the snow. Run by Grayline, they run shuttles from major hotels to Union Station where the tour leaves - very knowledgeable and friendly drivers, and you see a lot more than just a few monuments. I learned a lot - and thought I wouldn't, since I've seen most of the monuments several times!
