Ideal for families

from Samsie
We have recently returned from our week's stay in DC at this hotel.

We enjoyed it here very much and it is ideally situated being as it it being the Foggy Bottom and Dupont Circle METRO stations. (If you get off the Metro at Dupont Circle you need to take the Dupont Circle South exit). As the last poster has correctly stated this hotel is currently being refurbished so if you go there now, there are various hotel type items (mattresses, tables etc) placed on the corridors. On the seventh floor we were on however, these items were placed away from any hotel room and I did not see anyone distrubed unduly by the works in progress.

We paid extra for a two bedroom corner suite and found the room to be nicely sized as well as quiet (an important consideration for us). There was a microwave and a fridge located in one of the cupboards.

Breakfast is included in the cost and it's a nice hotel bonus. There was a choice of hot foods (omelettes cooked to order) along with cereals and bread items. Its best to get there early especially on the weekend as it does get busy later on.

We used the swimming pool and the water was warm enough.

We found all the staff to be helpful and polite.

We would certainly stay here again on our next visit to DC.

Be Warned....hotel under renovation

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at this hotel the weekend of April 6-10, the peak of the cherry blossom festival. It was a significant disappointment....enough that I'm taking the time to write this reveiw. I'm a Hilton Gold Honors member and have stayed at many Hiltons/Embassy Suites all over the US.

The problems began at checkin. We had reserved an upgraded non-smoking king suite paying $280 per night. We arrived at 9pm and was told that the only choice of rooms was a SMOKING king or a two doubles. After complaining to the manager, we were given room 305, a very large king suite. This sounded great until we got off the elevator on the 3rd floor. The entire south side of the 3rd floor was under construction. There were broken pieces of furniture and bedding completely filling the hallway, making it virtually impossible to navigate to the doorway of the room. There was a lamp that had to be moved to put the electronic key into the door. It was disgusting.

The room was indeed large, a corner suite....however there was virtually no furniture and both TVs were very old with poor cable reception. The 15 inchTV in the bedroom was SO FAR AWAY from the bed that the image was too small to see adequately. The room WAS clean...but every morning we tolerated the hammering and drilling. The hotel was full and complaints to management were met with "the entire hotel is under renovation". We could not find this "disclaimer" on any of our reservation documents nor were we informed about this when booking on-line. There was no offer for a room discount or voucher for a future stay.

The breakfast buffet was disappointing. This is typically the selling point of the Embassy Suites "brand"....a hot, delicious, cooked to order breakfast. In this case, the suasage and bacon was not part of the buffet but was placed behind the counter and had to be requested from the staff (even though they were precooked). I believe this is an attempt to reduce consumption of the more expensive meat items and for the most part it worked. Usually there was nobody there to ASK to serve you bacon/sausage as they were busy making omelletes for a long line of customers. The remaining buffet items were either cold (eggs) or dry (potatoes). The only good thing was the freshly brewed Starbucks coffee.

The only positives of the stay were the proximity of the hotel to several excellent nearby restaurants (I Ricci, Italian....Penang, Malaysian) and fairly close proximity to metro stops on both the red and orange/blue lines. This meant that DC National airport was only 25 minutes away by walking/metro train for a cost of $1.65. The conceirge was also very helpful.

There were four computers at the business center. The overall decor of the lobby was excellent. Room cleanliness and maid service good.

Overall, this was a poor experience. I have written the management of the hotel and have included pictures of the hallway outside our room. I will post here if and when I receive a reply.

t more hotels like Embassy Suites?!

from cldasher
Our family of four (two boys, ages 7 & 8) stayed at the Washington, DC Embassy Suites March 6-10, 2005. I can't figure out why more chains have not copied Embassy Suites' formula. I can't imagine having done this trip without the two seperate rooms (not the "faux" suite concept so many chains try to pull with the half-wall divider built into a regular hotel room), the breakfast in the lobby, the snacks and drinks in the evening, and because it was still winter, the indoor pool.

We arrived on an early flight from Atlanta on Sunday morning and took the Metro to Chinatown and then to DuPont Circle. The walk from the DuPont Circle station is a few blocks more than you might wish, but unless the weather is bad (which it was for a few days) it's not a bad walk, even with our two speed walkers. They allowed us to check in around 10:00 AM, and our room was ready and clean. I've stayed in slightly nicer Embassy Suite rooms (this one lacked the bar area and had a closet for the fridge and coffee maker) but everything was in working order and recently renovated.

Breakfast was great and lines were never too long at any time. Indoor pool was clean and the kids usually had it to themselves or another family with kids. We had a bit of a problem with some noise one night coming from the restaurant which was just below us. (We were on the 2nd floor) Speaking of the restaurant, it's a hotel restaurant, enough said. Walk a block or two for something else.

We paid $239.00 / night and used Hilton Honor Points transfered from AMEX Rewards for one night.

Very Nice for the Price/Location/Service/Perqs

My wife and I made reservations via the hotel website and selected the upgraded suite, which was well worth the extra money in terms of size and view. Additionally, when you factor in that a full buffet breakfast and two hour happy hour is included, you can't go wrong. The location is close to two metro stops and located in a safe neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again.

Convenient and Spacious

from A TripAdvisor Member
Nice hotel convenient to Foggy Bottom metro and good restaurants in West End DC. Good place if traveling with a spouse or family. Lots of kids around but overall pretty quiet and private. Breakfast was lacking but what the heck, it is free! Decent work-out room and overall a good value.

Nice family hotel in central DC.

This Embassy Suites has everything a family could need: it is clean, pleasant and (of course) the suites concept allows you to put the kids to bed early and enjoy some grown-up time. The indoor pool is small but adequate (very important to the kids!). The staff was very helpful (we had several business matters to take care of during our stay so we put them to the test). The in-house restaurant is pretty good, but the menu lacks a lot of variety. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the DuPont Circle Metro station, and the neighborhood is very safe with many excellent restaurants nearby.

Take the METRO, room to spread out!

from mlkesteve
Traveling with 2 teens and a pre-teen was no problem when we were able to spread out and relax in our large suite after a long day sightseeing. We took the metro to Foggy Bottom from Reagan airport and walked the 5-7 blocks to the hotel and never had to worry about a car or parking. The hotel is 10-12 minute walk from either Foggy Bottom or Dupont Circle metro. We preferred Dupont Circle because walk was more residential. Many brick townhomes and trees line street, felt safe! Hotel also within 15 minute walk of Georgetown shopping and restaurants, a plus! Hotel was very clean, staff friendly and hard working, pool nice and clean but a bit on the small side. Free breakfast was convenient albeit the long lines. Only negative is mattresses were very hard and some in our party had stiff backs or necks a few mornings. If hotel could change this, it would be an A+++ experience!

Great Amenities for Cost

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Embassy Suites D.C. was a nice getaway place for families. Every night they had the two hor long Happy hour and every morning they had people there cooking up omlettes and making other hot foods. The wireless internet service for your room costed $9.95 extra. The pool was VERY COLD, however the hot tub and the sauna were nice. There were long lines in the morning and in the evning for the managers reception and for brreakfast. Overall a good experience and we would probably stay there if we ever visited D.C. again in the future.

You MUST stay here!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Great location. Large room (which I've come to expect as an Embassy Suites standard). Great service. Fair room rate. Fabulous amenities (particularly the wireless high-speed access for business travelers). A MUST stay hotel in the Washington DC area!

Great experience..

from A TripAdvisor Member
Me and 5 of my friends just stayed at the embassy suites, and has a great time.. The breakfast was great, and the happy hour really helped us save some money on the drinks at the bars.. The aquarium atmosphere really made it feel like we're staying in a resort.. I am definately going to stay here again next time we make a trip to d.c.
