Courtyard was excellent!

My husband, teenage daughter and I stayed at the Courtyard Convention Center in DC and loved it. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean and the service was excellent. The location was unbeatable, next door to the International Spy Museum (which we recommend to all visitors) and the National Portrait Gallery (also a must see for art lovers). The hotel is also near many restaurants and the Metro (subway). The Gordon Biersch restaurant downstairs had good food and service (don't miss the garlic fries!), and although the bar was always crowded in the evening, we did not have to wait for a table for dinner. Chinatown and souvenir shops are within walking distance, as are many of the sites. We walked a block to the Old Town Historic Tours ticket office and caught the city tour, which was informative and affordable. We could not have beat the rate we got through AAA for anything comparable. I would definitely stay at at a Courtyard again.

A step above the ordinary Courtyard!! A Deal!

My 9 year old son and I recently had a 4 night stay at the very centrally located Courtyard. The location is a definite plus, across the street from the Spy Museum and within walking distance of many Mall sights. It is about a block from a Metro as well. We arrived early and were allowed to check in. We were on the 10th (top) floor facing 9th street and did not experience any noise problems from either inside or outside the hotel. We had two beds with nice comfortable mattresses, better bedding than a comparable hotel, good strong hot shower, average bath amenities, clean well maintained room. We found the pool to be adequate for being in the basement of a hotel in the city. I was glad they had a pool. My son thought it was 'luxury' to have a hot tub connected to the pool. The only downside was the overabundance of chlorine in the pool on one visit which actually bleached out a bathing suit. We had breakfast in the morning in the cafe in the basement which was the bank's vault in its prior life. The breakfast is a typical buffet but well done with many choices including fresh fruit, fresh eggs to order, cereals, yogurt, bacon, breads, coffee, juice etc. We didn't eat in the restaurant off the lobby. It seemed to be more of a bar scene and not 'kid friendly' though there are restaurants nearby, especially near the Convention Ctr/Chinatown. There is a McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Rest right across the street. It is true that there are some services found at hotels that were not found here(bellmen, concierge) but the price was also much better for a city hotel and I honestly didn't feel I missed anything. AND the service could not have been better at ANY high priced, high falluttin' hotel!! Except for one 'marketing' or 'sales' woman for the hotel who swooped in to stop my son from pouring his own lemonade at a complimentary reception, the staff was exceptionally friendly (sincerely so) and remembered my son's name even. The morning waitresses, the doorman (who was as helpful as a concierge), and the woman running the Marriott Rewards "lounge" should be valued for the impression they left with these guests of their hotel!! Excellent location, staff and room! I would stay here again.

Great Overall Place to Stay!

This was a great place to stay! We ended up booking a last minute trip off of Travelocity and weren't quite sure what we were going to get. It turned out to be awesome! We arrived at the hotel at 9 am and the staff graciously allowed us to check in early. Our room was clean and up-to-date. We had internet access and were in a corner room. Even though the hotel is on a busy corner, our room was very quiet. I loved the big windows. The location is great...lots of good restaurants around - recommend La Tasca and brick-oven fired pizza place nearby. Also within walking distance to attractions and very close to a metro station. The deli across from the closest metro station has good little breakfast sandwiches. It is across from the Int'l Spy Museum which is so much fun! We will definitely stay here every time we come to DC!

Quiet, clean hotel and awesome location

My mom and I traveled to DC in March to do some sight-seeing and this was the perfect hotel for us. We only slept here, so we didn't need a lot of ammenities, but the hotel is very nice. The rooms were quiet, there are great restaurants within a 2 minute walk, and the mall is literally a 5-10 minute walk away.
There is no conceirge, but they do have a computer in the lobby that lets you print a map and directions to anywhere you want to go.
Staff was very friendly and the valets retrieved our car quickly every time.
I'd stay here again if I go back to DC.

I highly recommend this hotel for anyone - whether on business or for pleasure. When I arrived, I couldn't figure out how to get the free access to the Internet in my room. I called the front desk to get some help and within minutes, the front desk staff person was in my room and configuring my computer to allow me to get online. Room service is also very good (staff-wise) although room service selections are somewhat limited.

The rooms are big enough with comfy king sized beds, seating area and a desk and chair to do work.

Location is good although near some construction (you cannot hear it from your room though).

The bar/restaurant downstairs was kind of loud and a bit busy for a hotel which wasn't great, but they do have a reasonably well equipped fitness facility.

Overall, this has been a very good experience.

The Greatest Staff

Not a luxury hotel but it offers a more than comfortable stay in a great location. The rooms are a good size and very clean. The bed is very comfortable. And the staff! Each one is nicer and more helpful than the next. Breakfast (not included) offered everything you could possibly want for breakfast and it wasn't outrageously expensive.

This hotel is located within walking distance of all downtown Washington attractions and many restaurants. Hotel room we received appeared to be recently renovated with fridge, microwave and separate bedroom.
Minimal service not unexpected for this rating level. Breakfast served on lower level great value.
$9.95 buffet with eggs cooked to order and kids eat free.

Location, Location, Location

First off let me say I only chose this hotel based on two things, location and travel rewards points. We were visiting relatives in the area and needed a hotel with a pool/jacuzzi and the prices were crazy high ($329 and up) I realize now that it was school vacation week for lots of the New England/northeast US so the prices were sky high even for Feb. but if you can use miles or can afford the price this hotel is outstanding. AS mentioned by others the location for touring is the best, 1/2 block to metro, 3 blocks to the Mall, across the street from the Spy museum. 1 block from Ford's theater and the Trolley Tour terminal.

Every restaurant our relatives suggested we try was at most 3 blocks away!! Cabs are plentiful, MCI center is about 2 blocks away. Safe neighborhood, very safe and secure hotel. Night bell hop and you must use room key to access elevators. Didn't try room service but did have a drink at brewery downstairs and it seemed like an up and coming crowd. Lots of socializing going on. The one thing I did have a hard time with and this is true in all the DC restaurants is the smoke. I've gotten used to smoke free dining up here in Massachusetts and as my middle age creeps in I have to say I really get annoyed when I can't taste my food due to second hand smoke. (Spoken like the former smoker I am!)

Everyone in the hotel was happy and helpful which made travelling with my teenagers much easier (who are neither happy nor helpful) Just kidding kids!! Anyway the positive attitude of the staff was much appreciated.

The buffet breakfast (in the basement near the former vault) was a bargain at 9.95. It included custom made omelelettes and make your own belgian waffles, oatmeal, great fresh fruit, pastries, etc.

Our room was surprisingly small (maybe because I was using travel reward points??) So small in fact that as soon as I saw it I gave up on the idea of a roll away for my daughter because we all agreed there was just not enough room to place it. The room was extremely clean, housekeeping was very good.

Others have mentioned the construction noise factor but we were in the rear of the hotel and did not notice it. We did, however, notice a Hard Rock Cafe just behind the hotel and I imagine that could get quite loud on the weekend.

All in all another great recommendation from Tripadvisor. Thanks guys.

Good Deal in Expensive DC

Given the prices in DC, this hotel is a bargain. The rooms are clean and although there was construction and traffic outside our 4th floor room, we could not hear a thing from inside the room. Downsides: no concierge to help with planning your trip, the bed was not the most comfortable (although the sheets were nice), and there is no real lobby to hang out in. We would certainly come here again though - can not beat the price given the location. Note that if you have a car - parking is $24 a day. But, the subway and the main tourist locations were within walking distance so you don't really need one. A bonus was sparking wine, cheese, fruit and cookies when we came in from a long day one evening - but I don't know how often they do this.

This hotel was a great value/find. The rooms were clean and quiet. Staff was all very friendly. We didn't have hot water on our first morning - but I understand that these things happen. Bed was very comfortable. I felt like we got a lot for our money. Would stay at this hotel again.

Top Local Tips for Washington DC

Spy Museum We spent 4 hours there with our 11-year old and could have spent more. This includes time in the museum shop, which is mandatory if you have kids. If you buy tickets for, say, 2 pm, don’t go near that time or you may wait in a big line. Go at 2:40 and the line you’ll see is for the 3pm tickets. You’ll be taken upstairs via elevator (hence the waiting lines) to a waiting room where you’ll stand around until the room has filled from people arriving on the elevator. Then you go into a theater room for a movie intro. From there you go into a series of rooms, each with a different theme/subject matter. The first room is about bugging devices, and when you get to a later room (I think it was the third one) you’ll find a listening device for a planted bug in the first room where you can hear visitors talking. Also, look for stairs that go up to a fake ventilation shaft where you can crawl through (they kindly carpeted it to save your knees!) and spy down through fake ventilation grate"

Dinner McCirmick and Schmit, and Zatinya were great dining experiences. Ella's pizza I didnt care for and met many other who didnt get it either. Maybe Ella's is a locals hangout but I didnt care for it.

Keep checking the web for lower prices I watched the prices at Mariott.com and booked the hotel when the price hit my budget. I continued to watch to see what the prices would do. By the time we left, the rooms were selling for at least twice what I booked it for, so I felt we got a very good dea.
