Enjoyed my stay, Great location

Stayed here from Aug. 21 to Aug. 25 and then from Aug. 29 to Aug. 31 and would recommend the hotel in the future.
The hotel staff was very pleasant, courteous and professional.
We had no problems with the hotel or its location. As a matter of fact the St. Regis hotel is located across the street.
The hotel is only 2 blocks from the White House and all the other monuments. There are 3 metro stations quite close by, all within walking distance and fairly easy to find.
For those who need a coffee fix, there is a Starbuck's also directly across the street.
As with all large cities, there is a homeless population but we did not walk in those areas at night, so we had no problems.
We did experience a fire alarm the last morning of our stay. However, I was pleasantly suprised to find an employee, with a walkie-talkie, stationed by the elevators to assist us with evacuating the building. By the way, it was a false alarm.
No, our room did not have a view, but we weren't there to stay inside and look out the window all day long.
Yes, there is construction going on across the street, but there was no noise in the evening and our sleep was not disturbed.

Wonderful spa

I didn't stay here, but spent two glorious hours in the Spa. The facilities are brand-new and beautiful. The women's locker room is carpeted and furnished with full-length wooden lockers with digital locks--no key to keep track of, and you set your own combination so you'll actually remember it! There's an area with hair dryers, curling irons, complimentary hairspray and other toiletries; the immaculate showers are stocked with excellent shower gel, shampoo, etc. Oh, and the steam room! Gleaming porcelain and eucalyptus-scented steam...The only thing missing was robe hooks outside the steam room. Did I mention that the robes are thick and sweet smelling?
I had a massage and a facial. Both were perfect and the providers most proficient. Even the obligatory new-age music was less annoying than usual (much of it was based on classical themes instead of endless appeggios). Altogether, a most highly recommended spa.

Had a GREAT stay at the Capital Hilton

My husband and I just returned from a long weekend in DC. We stayed at the Capital Hilton after getting a nice deal on Priceline. The hotel was really nice. It has a GREAT location (yes, it's a short walk to the Metro, but I mean SHORT.) If you're going to DC, you are ready to walk anyway, so the location is super. Our room was wonderful. It was on the 9th floor, was quite large, with a king size bed, separate kitchenette area with fridge, large closet, sitting area with a small couch and coffee table, a desk/work area, and a large bathroom. Upon check in the room was clean and tidy. There WERE blackout curtains, they are just sort of hard to find through the white sheers, but they are there! The hotel didn't seem crowded, we never had to wait for an elevator or wait for a desk agent/concierage. The hotel is definitely worth checking out if you are planning a trip to DC.
The only small constructive suggestions I would give the hotel would be to speak to the front desk staff and concierage. They were not as openly happy/friendly as other hotel staff I've come across. But, I may have just caught them on a bad day. No one was rude or anything like that, but they weren't super friendly either.

Happy with the Hilton

We stayed in this hotel during the summer of 2003. I was 6 months pregnant with twins and had no problem walking to the area attractions all day, we were so close to everything and only paid $70! I booked on Hotwire, so I don't know what the going rate is for this hotel but the restaurants were nice and the lobby was elegant. I would stay again.
Good Deal, Great Location = Incredible Value

The location couldnt have been better for our one night stay. The white house was two blocks away, and the neighborhood is very nice, and clean (although quiet on weekends). Upon check in, we did encounter lackluster service, and were put into a dirty room (4th floor). Although initially disappointed with the room, we called down to the front desk and were very promptly moved to a much nicer room on the 7th floor. It appeared as if the lower floors had not been rennovated yet. Bell, and concierge service was prompt, and there is a nice bar in the lobby. For the $109 a night we paid, the value is great. Overall I would recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Capital Hilton from June 19th until June 23rd, 2004. We had paid $94 a night through Hotwire. I would say for what we paid we got our money's worth. (Nothing more/Nothing less)
The staff was very friendly and problems with street beggars mentioned by another poster were almost non-existent. It was much less than most big cities and even then the 3 or 4 times I encountered it was at least a block or more from the Hilton.
If you want to save money on food there is a Burger King just across the street from the hotel and Wendy's and Subway are one block away.
One subway station is a block and a half straight down K Street (Farragut North - Red Line) and the two other stations (Farragut West and McPherson Square) both Blue and Orange Lines are two blocks away. There is a CVS and Rite-Aid one block away to stock up on drinks and chips.
I would have rated this hotel 4 stars instead of three if not for a problem at check-in. We were assigned to a room already occupied by another guest. While this was resolved politely and quickly, 4 stars hotels don't do this to start with.
I will have to say that emergency vehicles in Washington are quite loud and this will be a problem if you are a light sleeper staying on the
"K" Street side of the hotel.

A great location with nice rooms. The hotel suffers from poor service. Upon arrival at 1 AM I was put into a dirty room, had to wait almost an hour for another room. Also, the hotel does not really cater to business travellers as it lacks high speed internet connection in many rooms and its business center lacks opening hours.

For the price I paid for a double room, it was not worth it. I had no choice but to stay at this Hilton when every other hotel in town was sold out. When you check in, find out what side your room faces. I had the good fortune of having a room facing inwards which afforded me a breathtaking view of the airconditioning unit below.
I also had a 6am courtesy wake up call thanks to the massive construction project going on across the street on the other side of the hotel!
Try not to roam around the block after 8pm. There are quite a number of unsavory characters on the street.
For the money I spent $290 a night, it was so not worth it.

Nice place with friendly staff

I used Priceline to get a good deal on a 4 star hotel in downtown Washington. I ended up with the Capital Hilton. After reading reviews of it on here I was expecting the worse. The Parking Valet was very curtious as was the Bell Cap. Upon check-in I asked for a room with 2 beds and received one with no problems. The room itself was much bigger than I had expected. There was a large maybe 12x14 area where the beds were plus a double walk in closet. then there was the sitting area that was around 12x10. The bathroom was not unusually small. The one thing that I didn't like was the lack of vending machines. The only hotel option for drinks is the pricey minibar. However when I looked out my window I noticed a CVS Pharmacy right across the street (15th and K).
Problem solved. The Metro Redline is exactly one block west on K Street (17th and K). We ordered pizza the last night there and had to go to the lobby to get it. That was a little annoying. The room did have black out curtains. They are right behind the sheer white curtains. We stayed here for 4 nights and never heard other guest at night. The outside niose was no worse than any other city I have stayed in. I would have no problem staying at the Capital Hilton again.

Would Recommend the Cap. Hilton

Just back from a one night stay at the Capital Hilton, 16th and K. Had booked two rooms via Priceline and got them for $70 each, plus $13 taxes, for a total of $83 per room per night. HOTEL EMPLOYEES AND FRONT DESK ? Everyone I encountered was very friendly and polite, from the outside attendants to the front desk to housekeeping staff. Upon check-in, I requested that each room have two beds (5 people in our party) and that the rooms be near one another. Both requests were honored. No comments were made concerning the fact that I had reserved the rooms via the Internet/Priceline. CONCIERAGE ? Friendly; moderately helpful on restaurant recommendations. Did have advance-purchase tickets to the Spy Museum (at a $2 premium per ticket), which enabled us to avoid line and also to get in to the Museum (when we got there at 945, they were sold out of tickets for the entire day by 10 am!). HOTEL ROOM ? Clean and spacious: two double beds, desk and chair, loveseat, easy chair, bathroom, tall furniture with TV inside. The non-bed space was equal to or more than the area where the beds were; my guess is that the living/sleeping area (excluding bathroom and hall) was bigger than 20? x 20?. PARKING ? 24 hour valet parking cost $26, with unlimited in and outs. The courteous gentlemen in charge of parking even said he would allow me a few extra hours (beyond the 24 hours) with no charge, if I needed the additional time. LOCATION ? About 2 blocks directly north of the White House. Although I did not use it, convenient to a Metro stop. OTHER - The hotel has a restaurant, spa and also a fitness club available for $10 per day. I would recommend the Capital Hilton, especially for the price I obtained.
Top Local Tips for Washington DC
DC Metro The DC Metro is one of the best transportation systems I've used. It can take you virtually anyplace in the District and surrounding areas. The easiest way to become familiar with using it is through the website. http://www.wmata.com/ There's a trip planner which was invaluable to me because not only does it show how to get from here to there - there's an added part which when you click on it, tells you how to walk from the Metro station to the destination! This was critical for me. I planned ahead as to where I wanted to go and was able to write the walking out in advance. For example, if I planned to go to the Air and Space Museum and take the Metro to the Smithsonian stop - once I exited I would have no clue where to go. Same for if I knew I was going to leave a place and have to find a Metro station - I got directions in advance from a site as to how to walk to the Metro stop I was going to. I highly suggest using the website to plan ahead and get a feel for it.
Talking to conchita In front of the white house are some people protesting, conchita has been doing it since 1981, talking to her is quite an experience.
To Consider I went during the Cherry Blossom Festival and there were an extremely large amount of people there. Lines were large and the Museums were VERY crowded. Traffic was also very bad. TIP: don't go during the Cherry Blossom Festival week which is usually the first week in April.
