great hotel

from Fishkidr0626
This hotel was great. Very nice staff. It was in a good location near shops and excellent dining. Rooms were clean and cozy. The beds were a little hard. This hotel is also very close to the foggy bottom metro.

Suites at a sweet price

from A TripAdvisor Member
Separate sleeping areas was my family's top priority, and TripAdvisor led us to the Washington Suites Georgetown. I'm glad we chose it.

The location is great. The Foggy Bottom/GWU Metro station is about 3 blocks away, and lots of Georgetown shopping and dining are within a half mile to the west. There are several places to eat in the same block as the hotel. We tried Marshall's, and had a very good meal with excellent service. We felt safe walking at night in this neighborhood.

The hotel's staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, except that the bathroom was strictly one person at a time. Having a kitchen was handy, and it was fairly well equipped. The free breakfast was pretty basic but was very popular, and one morning a familiar DC pundit was there.

Three negatives, mostly minor: We were on the street side of the hotel, and sirens woke me a couple of times. One of the two elevators serving both guests and staff was not working the 4 nights of our stay. And depending on the season, the 2-pipe heating and cooling system, described by other reviewers, could be a drawback.

what more could you expect for the price?

I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of this hotel. I booked for the convenience of a suite, as I'm traveling with a one year old who goes to bed at 6:30, and for the price ($120/night). Other reviews led to me to expect a shabby, run-down hotel. That is certainly not an accurate description. This is as nice as any basic mid-level hotel I've stayed in. It is true that a sign on the wall explains that the heat and a/c are a bit archaic, but since it is May that is not a problem. We walked the two blocks to some of the fun restaurants on M St tonight and there are more than many to pick from and even some bargains in this pricey area. In addition to the internet provided by the hotel (for w hich you need a cable) we are picking up a wireless network.

Good Location, Great Hotel, Highly Recommended for All!!

from Vellamint
We are a family of 6 so you can imagine how hard it is to find nice AND affordable lodging in DC. This hotel fits that bill wonderfully!!

Free cookies for the kids at check-in started our trip off great. Elevators never made us wait and I believe we were on the 7th floor.

We stayed in a 2 room suite which had 2 doubles in the bedroom and a pullout couch in the living room. Each room had a television which really helps when you are traveling with a family...who wants to be stuck choosing between adult and child programming....not me - lol!

This suite also had a SEPARATE full kitchen with full size appliances so if you are really dedicated to saving money (we weren't) you can cook full meals.

Decent sized full bathroom that included Gilchrist & Soames (shower cap and mending kit too) toiletries and excellent water pressure. We had a dinette with seating for 4. They have a desk right under the living room window which had a terrific view of Pennsylvania Ave. Lighting was good in all rooms. Maid service was great and never intrusive.....

The staff is wonderful....anything we needed was met with smiles and no wait from directions to the zoo to a flickering light in the kitchen.

Really nice continental breakfast every morning...muffins, toast, fruit, yogurt, juice and coffee. Some of us would go down and pile up our plates and bring it up to the room for the rest of us with no problem. Including the time my son dropped a whole cup of juice next to the check-in counter....all smiles...no problem! There was also a patio out back that I imagine would be really nice in the warmer months to sit and enjoy your breakfast.

We were also happy that they were able to accommodate our full size conversion van in their lot which had been a concern for me as it doesn’t fit in underground garages....and we never waited more than 3 minutes for it to be brought around. Granted - parking is not free but parking is not free anywhere in DC.

Only 1 1/2 blocks to the metro.... pizza across the street...small convenience store 1/2 block away.

We were extremely pleased with this hotel and recommend it to any traveler (including business travelers of which there were many) who needs a nice place with space to spread out and a good location.

Very Good Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
Had no significant problems at all with my 4-night stay here. The a/c-heating issue was no big deal; everything was comfortable. The suite was a delight to return to after a long day of walking. The kitchen was very handy for warming up a pizza or storing things in the refrigerator. The room was immaculate, and amenities always refreshed. A beer mug I brought along was put into a dishwasher and cleaned while I was out! Only minor quibble...most of the staff proved quite helpful and cheerful, though only one person at the check-in desk seemed hard pressed to be naturally friendly. The location is perfect. I have no hesitation recommending this place.

Great place, location and staff...

from amxarts
My husband, baby and I spent 3 nights in early April 2005.

The place is great, the rooms are big enough to hang out, the kitchen has all the amenities (kettle, toaster, coffee maker, microwave) and full size appliances. We didn't use the dishwasher, stove and oven. There are lots of restaurants nearby, so why cook for just three days? Bathroom and ante-bathroom were spacious.

Hi-speed internet actually worked. You need an ethernet cable. If you don't have it, you can borrow one at the front desk. Plug it in the wall and to your PC and... it works! Amazing! (I had bad experiences elsewhere)

Location was perfect, quiet and safe in Georgetown, just a few minutes walk from Foggy Bottom subway station. It was about 25 minute walk to the White House. We walked everywhere and also went by the river, just 10 minutes away.

The staff was very friendly and helpful with a good sense of humour! It was very refreshing to meet nice people for once in a hotel!

We didn't have problems with the a/c. You can turn it on and decide the setting if you want it. The hotel can only run a/c or heating, not both at the same time. It's a central system and you decide if you want to use it.

Just so you know, there was only one snag. My husband found a bug and duly killed it. The front desk sent someone up to check and spray if necessary and said they don't usually have this problem. There were no other bugs.

I'd definitively go back there.

Just a tad warm

from dredge1
The staff was wonderful, friendly and accomodating. As discussed before the heat was unbearable. We were on the 9th floor and we were told to open the windows and turn off the heat. The heat just rose up from the floors below. With the windows open the room was bearable but there is a new building being built across the street and the construction gets rolling around 6:30 am on weekdays.
Other descriptions were accurate regarding the room and breakfast. Would recommend highly if the air settings could be moderated. In summer with the air condtioner on and the windows closed it might all work out.
Not sure how others felt but the noise from the street is excessive. Fire engines, ambulances, traffice noise, construction.

Great location and service, but marginal heating and air system

from Mary50
Pros:

*Great location between Foggy Bottom and Georgetown
*Staff very helpful and polite
*Quiet (very important in a big city)
*Only about three blocks to the Washington Metro
*Great self-serve breakfast with coffee, tea, juice, fruit, a couple of different cold cereals, yogurt, etc.
*Walking distance to Kennedy Center
*Roomy suite-style accomodation

Cons:

*Terrible heating and air conditioning system. As was mentioned in an earlier review, you cannot adjust the heat or air from your room ... it's a centrally controlled system. In our room, there was a sign that informed you of that fact and recommended you open your windows if too hot or cold (our bedroom window was stuck shut) or the management would give you a box fan in summer. I'm sorry but this doesn't cut it. I ended up sleeping out in the living area (where the window did open) one night last month when a warm front had passed room and the bedroom had become suffocating because the heat was still on high. The owners should go to the hip and install a HVAC system that doesn't mimic something from an eastern European country under communism!

We would stay there again during the dead of winter but because of the HVAC system would never consider doing so the rest of the year.

Good place for families in DC

from specht3
Our family of five was here in August 2004, for 4 nights. It's a bit far from the Mall (the Capitol, memorials, etc.) but it's near the Metro (subway) which gets you to the Smithsonian / Washington Monument with no transferring in just 10 minutes. Very nice subway system.
With 5 people, our choices were either a suite or two rooms. There's *no* place in DC you could get two decent rooms for $120 -- which is what we paid for a suite here. The queen-size pull-out was not the greatest bed - but adequate for my two sons. The separate kitchen, with a microwave, toaster, and refrigerator was nice. Two TVs, also good. The complimentary breakfast was decent.
Parking ($20/day) was a bit steep -- I think you may be able to find cheaper, but I didn't try myself.
It's very close to the Georgetown shopping district. I'd recommend Paolo's restaurant. Maybe a 20-minute walk.

Loved this place

from mikedetone
Stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. Rooms are exactly what they advertise. Staff is very helpful, free continental breakfast in the morning, is pefect to get your day going. The Metro is about 4 - 5 blocks away which will get you anywhere you need to go for site seeing. Another 5-6 blocks west you will be in the heart of Georgetown and the harbor which have great restaruants and a great night life. I would recommend this to anyone going and looking to do sightseeing and have some nightlife.

Top Local Tips for Washington

Bring your GPS when you come to Washington The streets were very confusing, even when sequentially lettered or numbered! We could not have made it without our Global Positioning System! Taxis were expensive and a real hassle because we had 6 in our party.

Weekly Metro pass Buy a weekly pass so you can go anywhere and not worry about the fare. It's well worth it.

Using the Metro After 9:30am you can get a pass card for $6.50. It is good for the whole day as many times as you want to ride the metro. It helps because taking the metro will help your feet when moving around the city.
