Absolutely Fantastic!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I were overwhelmed with the quality of the suite, the staff and the overall experience. This is a find! Iam only reluctant to tell of our experience because I don't want this hotel to become so crowded we won't be able to get future reservations - although we made them the day we got home!

A wonderful place to play and stay!

Beautiful Hotel

This quietly elegant, historic hotel is in a central location. The rooms are beautifully decorated and include all the upscale amenities one would want. Expensive but worth it. This hotel is probably geared more for adults than young children as it is rather formal.

Wonderful Anniversary

from A TripAdvisor Member
When making our reservation, I mentioned it was our anniversary and our room was upgraded. The staff was wonderful and helpful. I can't put into words how beautiful the room was and the bed was simply elegant and comfortable. This place is fit for a king and queen. Looking forward to a return trip.

Beauty, Elegance and an Excellent Hotel Staff

The Hay-Adams is the best hotel I have ever stayed at in my life. The room was so beautiful, and the people who worked there were so polite. The second night I forgot my toothpaste so I called the service center. They were out of their complimentary toothpaste and asked if I had 15 minutes to wait. They went to the store and purchased my toothpaste for me!

It's also in a great location with the AFL-CIO across the street, and the back part of the white house (1600 Penn Ave) right next to it. It's within walking distance of three Metro stops. :) One morning I had breakfast in their dining area, and 3 senators & two congressmen were enjoying their breakfast at a couple of tables not far from where I was. Hay Adams is a true Washington DC experience!

If you stay in the summer, their rooms use central air and they keep them very nice and cool. At the same time, the beds are nothing but layer after layer of fluffy soft warm comfort. You just can't lose. :)

Splendid! Perfect!

What an extraordinary experience I had at the Hay-Adams. Every aspect of the hotel and service was impeccible. The food was superb, the service ideal, the view spectacular. It costs a lot to stay here, but I felt that every penny was well spent.

Great food and hotel

We stayed here during the World War II Memorial dedication weekend. What elegance and service! I'm not used to such. Almost TOO much service. The room was very nice as was the bath--I loved the soothing decor. Breakfasts were divine (especially since our special included it)! Filet mignon with eggs one morning! The "Off the Record" Bar is cozy and the wait staff friendly. We had dinner there one night; and again, the beef tenderloin was to die for! (The restaurant was closed due to a wedding.) St. John's Church was directly across our window and we saw the President Bush's calvacade deliver him for Sunday services--unfortunately they spirited him through the side door. Oh, well, the excitement was fun.

Enjoyed by all!

We spent Spring Break week 2004 in D.C. (April 3-10). We stayed at the Topaz and the Hay Adams after reviewing comments on Trip Advisor. Great choices...two different hotels in different areas of D.C. We stayed at the Hay Adams Thursday and Friday night at the week-end rate...a big difference than the week day price. My son (age 10) wished we could have stayed at the Hay Adams the entire week. He loved having the slippers by the bed every evening when we returned from site seeing! The bathroom is huge, the bed was extra comfortable and we loved the neutral, traditional decor. We slept well--very quiet... Because of the hotel's proximity to a church and park...there are some homeless individuals near the hotel (they did not come up to us or bother us). Wonderful view of the White House in front of the Hotel. Front desk staff and concierge were helpful and courteous. We would definitely stay at the Hay Adams next time we are in D.C.

Avoid the Hay-Adams at all costs.

Back in January when I learned there was going to be a huge pro-choice demonstration on April 25th, 2004, in D.C., I made a reservation at the Hay-Adams for my anticipated 5 day stay. What a mistake.
First, after booking the room on-line, I called the hotel twice before I arrived just to confirm that I would have a room with a queen size bed and a queen sized pull out couch. Each time I was assured that I would indeed have those acommodations. Since I was traveling with my two adult daughters, it was important to me that we have beds where two could sleep comfortably together, i.e. in a queen sized bed.
Upon arrival I was told I would not have a room with a queen sized bed and sofa, instead, I would have a room with two double beds, and they would bring in a roll-away. And yes, they were very sorry, but at that point I couldn't have cared less whether they were sorry. When the roll-away bed arrived, my anger increased. Once the bed was in the room, you couldn't move around at all. There I was in my $400 + room, and I couldn't get to the bathroom without leaping over beds. Second, the hotel claimed it was renovated in the recent past, but when you walk into the lobby from the outside, the place smells of something moldy. Needless to say, I checked out the next day. Yes, the quilts were lovely, but not lovely enough to make up for the hotel's utter arrogance at promising one thing and not delivering. Do you think it had anything to do with my pro-choice button?

Exceeded all expectations

from OCMom
Every single detail of our stay was impeccable. For the first time ever, I actually felt guilty that I wasn't paying a high enough rate.
We booked an options package for $279, which included a generous breakfast – anything off the menu or room service. We had two rooms -- both were very spacious and well appointed. (Sorry to the last reviewer who had a small room.) My mother’s room overlooked the President’s church, just across the street. Exceptional gracious service from all staff. Freebies everywhere – cookies at check in, bottled water and fruit in the room, local calls, high-speed Internet, overnight shoeshine. Elegant turn down. Exceptional concierge service – and I had odd, difficult requests. Nothing but “A plus” marks during our stay.

Hay Adams Room so small you could not change your mind

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was very disappointed in the Hay Adams. After hearing such good reviews I was looking forward to a very comfortable stay. Our room as on the 8th floor and overlooked the roofs of two other buildings. I requested a change and although there was an empty room on our floor they were using it for display for other group meeting or conventions.
At $350 plus room tax of $50 it was overpriced. The one good note is that the housekeeping is excellent. Our room, though small was always throughly groomed and the housekeeping staff pleasant and helpful.
Without question I would make my next reservation at the Willard.

Top Local Tips for Washington

Washington Monument Get there early! I mean, really early! The queue forms very early and by the time we got there at around 8:30am it was about a hundred people long. The first time slot available by the time we got to the front was 11:30am. So just be wary of that.

GOOD FOOD OLD EBBITT'S GRILL IS WONDERFUL AND NOT FAR FROM HOTEL

Congress We went to the capitol to see our Congressman, and we were able to get tickets, (free), to see Congress in session. This was REALLY interesting. Who knew?
