Terrific location, but a $5.00 egg?

from travelinman
The main reasons to stay here are it's great location and room value. We stayed for 3 nights over a holiday weekend and were pleased with our room and the friendliness of the staff. This hotel is convenient to everything you want to see and do in D.C. If you like a martini, the $3.50 special at the bar is a bargain. The bar and dining room are pleasant and seems to attract locals as well as hotel guests.

Where this hotel goes wrong is in it's pricing for room service and breakfast. But you can't hold that against them. Like most hotels, they have permitted the "bean-counters" to make pricing decisions. Why hotels can't understand that a 10 cent egg doesn't need to cost $5.00+ is one of those mysteries of the modern travel age. They seem to reason that an egg sitting in the kitchen is worth more than one consumed by a customer at a reasonable profit margin. Apparently, many of the guests felt the same way, as there were few empty trays from room service outside the rooms and you could have the dining room to yourself during breakfast time. Walk a block down the street and get a breakfast for less than $5.00 at local deli.

If you are looking for a convenient location and a comfortable room, you will not go wrong at this hotel. Just request a suite with a kitchen and bring your own egg.

Good location, good value

from SandyAmarillo
Roomy suites with flat screen TV in living room, regular TV in bedroom.
Nice to have the kitchen for snacks, wine, soft drinks.
Corner room was quiet.
Friendly staff.
Responded very quickly to a problem with the coffee pot.
Good location for shopping, grabbing a quick bite or coffee or great restaurants.
For those that like to walk, it is a comfortable distance to Georgetown, White House and downtown.
Great rate from the hotel website.

Very pleased! I would stay here again.

from travelgirrl
The hotel is lovely the room is clean and nicely appointed. I have been most impressed with the staff at every level. The front desk, bellmen, bartender, and even passing housekeeping in the hall...professional but very friendly. I've stayed at other "nicer" hotels and the staff make you feel like they are doing you a favor by doing their jobs, not here! My only issue was I could hear every truck that passed on the street below and I was on the 8th floor, but after a full day in DC sleep was not a problem... I travel to DC frequently on business and love this neighborhood.. I highly recommend this hotel.

I'm so glad that I didn't book a room with a chain hotel and found this gem. My suite was wonderful- the walls are a warm mustard yellow, the furniture an upbeat cranberry red, the kitchen countertops granite, and the bathroom. . . so relaxing and modern. I made full use of my fridge- my only complaint is that it wasn't on when I brought groceries in. The staff was wonderful and accomodating. I asked for a quiet, non-street side room. Luckily, I wasn't placed near the gym or the laundry on the 2nd floor, but I was able to get quickly to those amenities via the stairs. I certainly appreciated the key-card access in the elevator, as there are a rash of hotel robberies in DC/Northern VA hotels. The restaurant is OK for drinks but the food is overpriced. Try David Greggory across the street (great food!) or Grillfish on the other side of New Hampshire Ave. I'd go back in a heartbeat to St. Gregory's.

Nice, and nicely located

from ballhatguy
Staying for meetings, this hotel was centrally located to not only my meeting but close to Dupont, Foggy Bottom and in the middle of the whole Golden Triangle. It was affordable and a quick walk to a couple different subway stops. The hotel bar and lobby were stylish with helpful staff. We cabbed to and from the airport so parking wasn't an issue. The one and only thing we noticed that might be a negative is that the walls seemed thin and we could hear a lot of noise from the hall or adjacent rooms. I'm a heavy sleeper so it wasn't a big deal but the other person in the room did get up once or twice during the nights we stayed. Otherwise . . it was a great time in DC over the Election 'holiday' and I'd certainly stay there again.

Very Nice for the price

I booked a night away from home on Monday night for me and my boyfriend. I wanted to spend some time shopping in Georgetown, however, be warned that it is about 10-12 blocks from main shopping area. It is about 2-3 blocks from DuPont Circle and the metro though. We took metro to the zoo and spy museum (the spy museum is not worth the money!).

The lobby is very nice and the front desk attendent was very friendly in checking us in. We checked in around 7 o'clock and they must've given our room away (King size Delux Room) because they gave us the King size Suite. It was a room with a sitting area (with TV, CD Player) and a full kitchen. The bathroom was very clean. Too bad we only spent one night there. It would be a perfect place to stay and cook for yourselves.

Overall, I was impressed with the hotel, other than the $22 parking. We parked on the side street until 7:00 am and moved it to a garage in the morning for $9 at a nearby garage. Be warned that all the parking garage attendents are rude and ignorant.

Considering I paid about $140 for the room, I think it's well worth it for a Suite.

Stylish St. Gregory Hotel and Suites

Top notch valet service, doorman opening glass doors in symphany, a lobby with a full size statue of Marilyn Monroe (yes the one with the wind and the dress) was just so fun! To the left, a spacious waiting area with tufted furniture and a private seeting arrangement for 2-4. To the right is a posh little bar, offering live entertainment. Order something light here, or a more elegant dinner in the upstairs restaurant. My husband and I stayed here Easter weekend, earlier this year, to visit our daughter and the cherry blossoms. A gorgeous room (closets galore) comfortable and luxurious. Convenienty located, the St. Gregory is a bit retro, mixed with new elegance and a fresh style that appeals to every age. Because the street level is completely glass, and the bar a public favorite, you can chat with local patrons and really feel a part of this city.

We stayed here on July 25th with our 13 year old grandson. I had emailed them and advised that my grandson was going thru some problems and wanted to make this a special trip to DC. They said to let us take care of it. Well my goodness they sure did. We were on the 6th floor, club level. We entered to find a full kitchen, dining room, living room, stereo and beautiful bedroom. It was the nicest suiteI have ever been in. The room had no view but considering where the hotel was, there was no view. The restaurant was overpriced and the service not very good. The food was ok at best. It was a bit more expensive than we normally pay. However, it was wonderful and I was stay there again without hesitation.

St. Gregory deserves a look

from mapman50
We took advantage of their 2 night special. We were charged for extra adult for 18 yr. old son, but it was still an excellent deal. Our First night was $179.00 but the second only$21.00. As well, parking was just $10.00 per night. The suite was clean and spacious with fresh flowers in the bathroom. The location was great for Metro and restaurants. $3.00 Martini's were an added bonus.

Nice King Suite

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had a wonderful stay. The king suite was spacious, and we really enjoyed the newspaper at our door each morning. Having a restaurant and lounge downstairs was very convenient, and we liked the surrounding area. However, their workout room is not big enough. It doesn't seem to fit the standards of the rest of the hotel.

Top Local Tips for Washington

Parking If you do not want to pay the price for parking at the hotel there are other options as close as next door.

Metro fare If you do not plan to ride the metro to many distinations don't automatically buy the $5 fare. Use the machine's fare amount up & down button to buy one way or round trip exact fares.

Have to eat here!!! Las Halles (1201 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) has the best hot chocolate I've ever had! (One order is enough to split between 2 people.)
