A great experience!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from a stay at this hotel and found it to be a very nice, new hotel in a great location. We wanted to do as much sightseeing as possible in a very short period of time, so we did not want to have to bother with getting into DC every day. We started out on foot from the hotel and were able to see the Capitol, the Library of Congress, the House office buildings, and several other nearby attractions. The next day, we took the Metro (a very short stroll around the corner) to the Smithsonian stop and explored the museums and monuments from there. We had two young children with us, and this was perfect.

The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. They told us about the Market Inn just down the street for dinner one evening, and it was excellent! There aren't many eating places nearby, but we also had a relative who was able to drive us, so this wasn't a problem.

The breakfast selection was plentiful every day. It was a great start to a full day. For us, finding a seat was never a problem. I think a lot of that has to do with the timing of your visit to DC. We were there after most of the crowds were back in school, and it made the trip so much nicer.

If and when we get back to DC, we will definitely stay here again!

great downtown hotel

Hard to imagine a hotel with a better location. Literally a 7 minute walk from the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Big suite rooms with kitchenette, table, and sofabed, nicely appointed bedroom and bathroom. Clean, new. We stayed here for a weekend with our two kids and were very happy. Only downside was that breakfast, nice as it was, was very very crowded both days.

Loved it!

Wow, what a great place to stay. The staff was always helpful and friendly. The breakfast was great each day along with our evening meals. It was so nice to "eat in" after touring DC all day. My daughter and I NEVER leave home without our pillows, and we both remarked that we could have left them at home! The beds are awesome! This is a great place to stay and I would gladly recommend it to anyone.

Nice Hotel, Great Location

from figment7
This hotel had almost everything, I say almost because eating choices nearby are non existent, unless you like McDonalds, there is a McDonalds right down the street but other then that you have to take the Metro. Very close to the Metro so you are near all the sights you want to go to or if you get adventurous (good walk) you can walk to the hill, monument, museums and such. The hotel was very nice, very new and the staff was awesome and very helpful. The train tracks are bothersome but I had a room right on the side and didnt bother me except one morning after 9am. Overall this hotel is great if they had nearby eatery would have gotten EXCELLENT!

Excellent- Close to Metro, Safe.

We had a HUGE 2 bedroom/ 2 bath suite at the Residence Inn-Capitol. This is a new hotel facility that is a short one block from the Federal Center Metro stop. If you haven't been to DC being near the Metro is a MUST!! DC has many fine hotels that are not near the Metro, which in my opinion is a headache for those wanting to tour, especially with kids. The Residence Inn-Captial offers both quality and convenience.

The hotel area is very quiet and located in the same block as the Ford Congressional building, which means it there is always security watching you walk back to the hotel from the Metro at all times. On the down side, there are only a few quickie-places to eat in the neighborhood. Parking under the hotel is tough for those with oversized vehicles.

The suite still had a new look and was exceptionally clean. We stayed on the 5th floor that overlooked the pool/patio. Everything with our room was in order. Each of the bedrooms had a seperate door from the kitchen/living room. Do not be fooled by other hotel chains offering suites only to find a half-wall seperating the rooms. These have real doors, which can be kind of nice for privacy for us parents.

We enjoyed the free buffet breakfast, but found the staff overwhelmed on our last day (Friday) trying to keep the food moving. Unlike some Residence Inns that offer evening beer/wine, this facility does not due to strict DC regulations governing the serving of alcohol. A free evening meal is offered Monday-Thursday, but we opted seeing hamburgers and hotdogs. The hotel offers free in-room intenet access and has computers in the lobby that can be used by guests 24/7. The only real problem we encoutered was excessive heat at the indoor pool. For some reason, the AC was not working and the temperature was at least 100 degrees! The kids still swam despite the heat.

Overall, this is a 9 out of 10.

Great location

We took our large family of 5 kids, mom & dad plus grandmother to this hotel. It was perfect for our needs. The rooms were very spacious. We had 2 one bedroom suites - each with 2 doubles and a sofa bed - which gave us more than enough beds and privacy (door seperating den & bdrm). The kitchens were great - a huge money saver and we enjoyed taking breakfast back to our rooms to relax. The front desk keeps plenty of menus for restraunts that offer delivery if you don't feel like getting out. The staff was very helpful with every need we had. We requested upper level rooms to avoid the train noise, and heard almost none. We were even able to park on the street all weekend to avoid the hefty garage charge. Overall a very satisfying experience.

Convenient to Hill

from scmc
Hotel is only a few months old. Lobby - very nice. Rooms well appointed and in excellent condition. High speed internet available. Short walk to the Hill - very good for business travelers. Rooms have a small kitchen with frig, microwave, etc. and living area with a couch, TV, etc. Given the fact that many of the hotels close to the Hill are dumps - this is a welcome relief. Not much in the way of restaurants close by. Hotel does back up to the RR tracks so some rooms on the back side of the hotel may be a bit noiser. My room was about 1/2 way up on the side, but I really wasn't distributed by the trains at all. As the hotel is somewhat new, cabs are still a bit sparse in the area, although front desk was very willing to get a cab ASAP if one was not readily available. I would definitely stay there again if I needed to conduct business on the Hill.

Excellent hotel and location

from Caffeinated
Rooms were very nice, comfortable and clean.
Staff was very friendly.
Breakfast was very good.

The dinner was more than the typical "Managers Reception" with popcorn and chips.
They have a real meal (meat, vegetable, salad, soup, drinks, etc.)
- which saves a lot of money in the DC area.

Be aware - the breakfast is everyday, but the nice dinner buffet is only
Monday - Wednesday !!!

Convenient walk to metro and Smithsonian museums.

Great location - bargain

from Scubydiver
Finding an afordable room for a family of five in DC was a daunting task - but this brand new Residence Inn turned out to be a fantastic choice. The staff was friendly and accommodating. With a full hot breakfast buffet every morning before the short three block walk to the National Air and Space - or 1 block to metro every morning was just one of the extras.

When we returned at day's end to a full day my three boys (10, 12 and 15) were excited to find fresh baked cookies to munch on before a full buffet dinner was served... yes all that was included with the price of the room. I expected horsd'ovres but they served a full dinner - soup, salad and all.
Besides Free internet in the room, they had Free use of pc's with printers in their lobby... Gosh what more could we ask for?

Oh, did I say they even supplied the popcorn for our evening movie? Worth every penny.

Loved Residence Inn Capitol DC

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our family loved the Residence Inn Capitol DC! We stayed there for 7 days in May, 2005, and when we return to DC we'll stay there again. We arrived at the hotel at 9:00 in the morning, tired after our long night flight -- yet they gave us our reserved room right away! (check-in time was @ 3:00 p.m.) We were able to freshen up, then venture out to the metro, which was just around the block! We rode the metro to the Eastern Market to shop for fresh produce & breads, etc. (the Residence Inn Capitol DC is equipped with full kitchens...) The mall is only 3 blocks away, so everyday we either walked to the mall to see the Capitol, the Supreme Court, the diverse museums, the National Archives, the Botanic Garden, etc. Or we'd hop on the metro and ride it to the Memorials or Arlington. The complimentary breakfasts every morning were GREAT: eggs, potatoes, sausage, pancakes, french toast, waffles, bagels & cream cheese, oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, toasts, muffins, pastries, fresh fruit, melons, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and juices. Their breakfasts gave us the energy we needed for all of our sight-seeing! In the evening, after a full day of exploring, we'd return, exhausted, back to Residence Inn Capitol -- and they had complimentary hot dinners waiting for their guests! (M, T, W) They also provided a variety of board games, which we checked out and enjoyed playing in our suite. (You can play in their lobby also.) The TV's & free movies were great too. We enjoyed the swimming pool & hot tub nightly, and if we weren't too wiped out, we'd work out in the exercise room next to the pool. We found Residence Inn Capitol's staff to be extremely attentive, friendly, and professional. Never did we see a sloppy dining area -- even on Saturday and Sunday mornings at breakfast. We had an excellent family vacation at Residence Inn Capitol DC! Looking forward to our return. (May 2005)
