The Omni Shoreham was absolutely one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. From the parking garage attendants to the Front Desk Clerk and everyone in between everyone was extremely pleasant and courteous. We are planning to visit DC in the fall of 2005 and will stay at the Omni once again.

Great hotel, excellent service, so-so location for tourists

Got the $116 deal from the Net and it was a steal ! Fabulous European lobby, large & clean room, free wireless Internet, free USA today every morning at your doors. Not necessarily the best location for first-time tourists, but a lot of restaurants as you walk towards the Metro subway station and the Zoo. TIP: Don't use the DC bus tour that stops in front of the hotel because all of them are usually too crowded and you probably won't be able to get on to the bus for couple of hours ! Just be smart and use the Metro !

My daughter and I went to D.C. to visit prospective colleges for her.
Since my husband had to stay home I wanted a place where I felt safe and secure. The Shoreham was a wonderful choice. We were treated extremely well by the staff, and loved the wide variety of restaurants to choose from within easy walking distance. The neighborhood was beautiful, and we loved how close the Metro was. Our room was lovely, and it was amazingly quiet. In our four days there I never heard room noise from adjacent rooms. The only drawback I can think of is that for such a large hotel I thought there would be more restaurants to choose from, but that really wasn't a problem because of the many restaurants nearby. I will look forward to staying here again if my daughter is here for college/.

My wife and I were at the Shoreham for a conference. We had booked a non-smoking room king room but they only had smoking so we were forced to take a double. Gee - fun. The kid at the counter on the night of 2/29/04 was unwilling to help us. For $250 a night I expected a lot more. The room was nice but not exceptional. It had a small tv and nice bath, large closet. Housekeeping didn't arrive until after noon so I got to work in an unmade-up room for half of my stay. They also are unaware of how vacuum cleaners work because the same stuff was on the carpet all 4 days. There are plenty of other hotels in DC. Next time it will be someone else.

s Day - PRESIDENTIAL SUITE!

We stayed at the Omni Shoreham on Valentine's Day. We originally booked a classic suite, but upon arrival were told that the only classic suites available had two beds. Since we were there to celebrate Valentine's Day I told him that we only needed one bed and to just book us in a regular room. He walked away, then came back to inform us that he was upgrading us to their nicest Presidential Suite! Let me tell you, I am used to fancy hotels, but the Omni blew me away. The hotel itself has grand staircases and chandeliers, great restaurant, and beautifully landscaped grounds perfect for a wedding. The Abraham Lincoln Suite was fabulous: hardwood floors, living room with fireplace, library, dining room, full kitchen, balcony and lovely master bath. We were in heaven, we had made plans for our day, but cancelled all just to enjoy this room. Omni provided the perfect setting for our first of many Valentine's days!

A Wonderful Experience

We thoroughly enjoyed our four day stay at the Omni Shoreham. The service, our room, the amenities, and the location were superior. The staff was especially courteous, from check in through check out. Our room was spacious (although the bathroom was small), immaculate, and comfortable. The location, especially being so close to a metro stop (less than a block away) made getting around the DC area without a car a pleasure. There are many highly rated restaurants in the immediate area. Two of our favorites were Yanni's Greek Taverna, just steps from the Cleveland Metro stop, and Lebanese Taverna, less than two blocks from the hotel, and suggested by the concierge. We will recommend the Omni to all our friends and relatives and understand why it has the second highest rating of hotels in the area.

Incredible hotel!!

Stood here for 3 nights the weekend before Thanksgiving. I was taken aback by the friendliness of the staff upon entering. The lobby is incredible with its plush sofas, chandeliers and tapestries. Check in was a breeze, and I was even upgraded to a suite even though 1. I had an incredible rate and 2. I was using a 50% off weekend stay coupon for being a Select Guest member.

Upon entering the room, it was huge. It was about as big as my studio apartment. There were 2 queen beds, a sofa and loveseat, table, writing desk and chair with a coffee maker, and the bathroom was large complete with fluffy towels, a cozy bathrobe and Swiss Institute toiletries. It took me until hours later to realize I had a balcony, overlooking the pool and Rock Creek Park. The sign on the back of the door listed the room as being $500 a night, I was paying 10% of that!

There are many restaurants in the area up CT Ave., and even past the zoo which is about 4 long blocks north. The Metro is a block away along with a CVS and McDonalds. Valet Parking was about $22.

The staff was incredible. I had a problem with an large moth in my room and a slightly stained carpet, and someone from housekeeping was at my door in about 5 minutes. The concierge also gave me great suggestions on places to go off the beaten path. There was also a large wedding taking place there during my stay, and did hear one customer complaining about the noise in his room from it, and they promptly moved him!

All in all I had a great stay at the Omni Shoreham and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet and safe place to stay.

Excellent Hotel

We booked the Omni Shoreham as part of an cheap internet deal so were expecting it to look better than it would actuallt turn out to be. We were so wrong. The Omni is a great hotel, ok we got stuck in a first floor room overlooking the lobby roof, but we didn't care. The room and bathroom were huge and clean. The gardens and pool area are beautiful.
We didn't eat or drink there, looked a bit too pricey for us, but it was very close to a good Irish bar and some nice restaurants. It was also very near the Metro for travel into the city centre. We would definately stop here if we returned to DC.

Very pleased! Would definitely stay there again...

We (my husband and I and our two teenage boys) stayed at the Omni the week after Christmas. I had, of course, read the reviews posted here previously. Based upon the reviews, we were expecting a very nice hotel, great staff, and a good location. To say the very least, we were not disappointed. It is only 1/2 block from a McDonald's, the metro, and several affordable restaurants. Our HUGE room had two queen size beds with a beautiful view of the pool area. The lobby was immaculate... and the staff was very helpful. I felt our cost was very reasonable, although I do realize that we stayed during "off-season".
No complaints whatsoever! We would absolutely -- without a doubt or hesitation -- stay here again!!!

My wife, young son and I stayed at the Omni Shoreham the weekend following Christmas. While the staff was very gracious and efficient, the room was small and very ordinary, not quite what I was expecting.
Since I am in the Omni Hotels select guest club I tried to get the complimentary room upgrade they advertise, but the woman who checked us in said they had no extra rooms. I found that hard to believe since the hotel capacity appeared to be so light they didn't even have their lounge or some of their small shops open for the week. It is within walking distance to the zoo, which is nice.

Best hotel in DC

We stayed in a one bedroom suite at the Omni for our wedding night, and it was a fabulous, lovely hotel with excellent service. Most of our guests stayed here as well with an excellent group rate of $119 a night. The rooms are spacious with nice views, the hotel has many amenities, including a nice restaurant, cocktail lounge and piano bar, big lobby, and pool. The doormen and valets were very nice to us and our guests. The hotel accommodated us so we could take wedding pictures in the pretty gardens on the hotel grounds.You can't go wrong with this hotel.

Top Local Tips for Washington

Murphy's Pub Murphy's Pub is a block or so from the Omni. It has a wonderful variety of food for very reasonable prices. Staff are polite and very efficient. Has a variety of beers on tap. It gets crowded in the evening, but it is worth it.

Museum of American Art & Portraiture Allow plenty of time to visit this amazing museum. The collection of American art is marvellous and the collection of portraits of Americans is both historically and artistically interesting. It includes people from all areas of American life -- Presidents, politicians, performing artists, atheletes, poets, soldiers, etc. The building itself is interesting and beautifully restored -- it was the Old Patent Office completed in 1868 and was the site of Lincoln's second inaugural ball in 1865.

Plane watching at Gravelly Point Park Even if you can't stand flying, you need to spend a little time at Gravelly Point Park off the north end of the runway at National Airport. No charge. Landing planes are just overhead and there is a fantastic view of the Capitol and Monument from across the river. Great big field for kids to run off steam.
