Historical Traveller Reviews of Marriott Washington Metro Center Hotel

A good place for a bad price

from RovingGnome
Our family and a friend's family stayed here for two nights just to have a little getaway. The place looked nice on the outside, and the lobby looked very clean and fancy. The breakfast was enjoyable, with potatoes, ham, waffles, etc, but it was TWENTY DOLLARS! As for the rooms...they were clean, but could have been much bigger. The pullout sofabed opened from the top instead of under the cushions like normal, so we almost told the desk it was broken. If the price had been that of a Hampton Inn, I would have given it four stars, but it was $229 per night! Overall, I don't think I'd come back, as I'd rather stay at the St. Regis down the street, for a similar price, but probably generally better.

Great location!

from Pysiu
First, nothing can beat the great location of this hotel. Right in the middle of down town and literally next to a metro station, which means you can easily get everywhere. The hotel was very clean, rooms were tastefuly decorated and in great condition. Staff was super nice and the breakfast we ordered through room service was excellent!

Pleasant Surprise

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from 4 nights in this hotel and couldn't have been happier. The room was basic although very clean and pleasantly decorated. What made this hotel stand out was the excellent service. Clearly everyone in the hotel was well trained in guest relations. From the doorman to the front desk to the concierge to the restaurant staff, without exception everyone we encountered here was friendly and helpful. How refreshing! The breakfast buffet (included in our family plan) was spectacular! The location great! Just a short walk to the White house or take the metro with a stop on the same block. Several nice restaurants within easy walking distance including Capitol City Brew pub for the microbrew aficiondos.Great--great --great stay! I've stayed in fancier hotels but have seldom if ever experienced such consistantly good service. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

great location, friendly

from T.B.Patriot
You can't beat the location. A lot of the sight seeing is within walking distance and the Metro stop is one block away. People were friendly and the room was clean. I would definitely come back

Overpriced and poor quality

from A TripAdvisor Member
While offering adequate accommodation the price of around $350 a night excl breakfast was extortionate and i expected much more for this.

The room was ok but no frills. Most disturbing however was that i could hear every cough and mutter of the people in the next room

They also charged me for interent access for 3 days when i hadnt been able to connect it despite 3 calls to the receotion and a call to an unhelpful support line. Then they said they were unable to correct the bill when i checked out as their system was 'running the accounts'

Overall poor - the Renaissance nearby which i looked in on looked much nicer

Easy METRO access makes this a great choice!

from oldbokers
I stayed at the Marriott Metro Center March 1-6, 2005. I have stayed in this hotel before. I am a frequent traveler to the DC area. My stay was on the concierge floor. Evening reception and breakfast were adequate in the concierge lounge. Room service was fast and food quality was excellent. Location is very conveniently located by the METRO stop. Room was very clean and Marriott’s “Wired for Business” plan is a good value. Only complaint I have is that turn down service should be provided to all guest on the concierge floor without asking. Great location and Great staff make a Great Hotel. Marriott Metro Center makes my top 10 list of hotels in the District.

Great location, nice hotel

from SammyK5
We had a nice, well appointed room at a fair price. The location can't be beat as Metro Center is a short walk from the hotel. The only negative was the poor service we experienced at the restaurant. It took forever to be seated for breakfast and our order was taken only after we complained.

nice hotel

from Trplvr80
i stayed at the marriott for a conference in nov. It's typical of a chain hotel, but what made it different was its location to the metro (worth the cost of the hotel, which was reasonable). so close and convienent and it was a major metro stop. it's also really close to major attractions. you can walk in any direction and be good. my only complaint is that for a chain hotel i normally expect a certain standard of service which i didn't feel i got. I found out a couple of days before i left that the price i paid (which didn't include breakfast) was now a special that did include breakfast. so when i got to the reception, i inquired about the possibility of being given the breakfast vouchers. in my experience, hotels try and bend over backwords to help you, especially chains because they have a certain standard they want to maintain. but i was told that i couldn't have the breakfast voucher, which i felt was extremely unreasonable.

Excellent Hotel, Excellent Location...

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just wanted to echo the last review. 5 stars. I'd write all the same stuff, but let me just say you can trust the last review. We stayed there Veteran's weekend, November, 2004. Very good staff.

Only 1 complaint regarding double beds: they use a sheet that kind of comes off the bed during the night--at least for us. Not a fitted sheet. My wife says all hotels use the non-fitted bottom sheets. I've never noticed (I guess because they've never slipped around like that). I don't know what to say about that. It wasn't a big deal...I just like everything to be perfect and it was a bit annoying at times to have to tuck my sheet back in, but we were two adults per little double bed so that might have had something to do with it. King bed may be different.

Still, five stars for sure. If you can get a good deal (it was a bit expensive for us, as it was a holiday weekend), grab this hotel!

t say enough good about this hotel!!! You MUST stay here!

After reading reviews about this hotel we thought we would give it a try. I am telling you we are SO thankful we did! From the moment we walked through the door people were always smiling and kind to us. The front desk staff were so accomodating. And the restaurant was GREAT! The staff there are the happiest around. And the food was really good I thought.

Our daughter who is 8 had a GREAT time. She loved the Metro subway. It is literally not more than 50--100 ft from the hotel! So access was great. We could just hop on the subway and go wherever we wanted to go. It was about a 3-4 block walk to the White House, which we toured. And you could take the subway just about everywhere else very very quickly.

Our room was great! We had to move to another one due to needing a king bed. But we really didn't have much to complain about. One night we didnt' sleep good due to some noise, but they quickly moved us the next day to another room. They were overly accomodating. I am telling you there is nothing better than this hotel in the DC area. The price is great. And the hotel has I believe just undergone a renovation. Everything smelled and looked so fresh and clean. The flowers were REAL in the lobby and by elevators. It was truly a refreshing trip for us. We will definately stay here again when we return to the DC area again.

Why everyone doesn't give this hotel a '5" I don't know? But it is a 5+! It is close to the metro, which in this city is a must. It had great food, which was NOT really expensive. And it had great rooms. The rooms were very clean and the bathroom floor looked like you could eat off it! We left with an amazing feeling, WE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE THIS PLACE! It felt like home just about.

This is a great hotel if you have children, due to the proximity to the metro, and the hotel having a great restaurant, POOL, work out room, laundry, etc. It has it all! Our daughter loved the pool, we loved the hot tub! And there were people riding the treadmills and bikes while watching TV. We used the dryer in the laundry room for our coats when we got all wet on a terribly wet day on our trip. Everywhere we went, it was ALL SO CLEAN and fresh, it was truly a wonderful trip. Can't say enough good about this place. Support them, and STAY at the MARRIOTT AT THE METRO CENTER! You won't be sorry! And you will be saving yourself a little money by not staying at another hotel that is probably twice the amount and not as close to the subway.

Oh also, just because it is close to the subway doesn't mean it is a bad part of town. It is not a bad part of town, or we didn't think so. It was just a wonderful place! I am a very very picky person, this hotel met and exceeded those standards that I have.

Top Local Tips for Washington

Metro We used the metro daily, but from our location it was better not to buy the weekly pass. We used the Metro about twice a day for $1.35 per trip. A weekly pass was about $22.

International Spy Museum A great place to take the kids. They really have a good time. Try to get there before it opens.

Restaurants in walking distance from the Convention Center Attended a conference at the beautiful DC Convention Center. Had some fabulous meals nearby at: Oya, Zaytinya & Indebleu.
