The Madison - Washington, DC

from sfslinky
We had a wonderful stay at the conveniently located Madison Hotel over New Year's Eve weekend. We filled out an online profile and had juice and chocolate chip cookies waiting for us together with a note from the manager. The bed and linen were sooooo comfortable to sleep on. Very convenient location and walking distance to Dupont, the train, stores and restaurants. We will be coming back next time we're in DC!

Great Service and Price

from WHartford
Stayed at the Hotel Madison for two days during the first week of February and was very pleased. The Hotel staff greets you like you are royalty, and the room (I was upgraded) was beautiful - with a terrace and sitting area, in addition to a very comfortable bed and immaculate bathroom. Because I filled out a visitor profile (on the hotel web site), I was given a lovely fruit plate upon arrival and also received a very nice thank you note from the hotel manager - nice touches!
Location is convenient and price (via quikbook) was $169 for one night and $219 for the second - excellent for the DC area.
Breakfast was pricey (but not shockingly so in light of other DC hotels) and the one let down for me was that the hotel shop was all out of aspirin (I had a bad headache) and no one offered to replenish the stock, throughout the day despite calls to the store and the concierge.
Overall, a 5 star experience and I would definitely stay here again.

A Wonderful Find

We recently stayed at The Madison after 2 nights at the Ritz Carlton.
We were pleasantly surprised by the exceptional service at The Madison and the lovely rooms. The rooms are very clean; the beds extremely comfortable. Bathroom amenities were lovely. We can't say enough about the outstanding service at the hotel from the greeting at the front door to the front desk people to the restaurant wait staff.
We would definitely stay there again. Check the Madison website for specials.

Luxurious hotel with many amenities

from PamperedTraveler
Just back from an overnight stay at The Madison. The hotel was high quality and a great value (check out the hotel’s website for promotions). The Madison is centrally located to all the major DC sites and government agencies and an easy walk (1-2 blocks) to numerous restaurants and cafes (e.g., Starbucks, Cosi, The Corner Bakery, McCormick & Schmick, CVS, etc.). Valet parking was a flat $26 per 24-hours and includes in-and-out privileges. The room (#635), although a bit on the smaller side, included three phones. The room linens (towels and bedding) are of the highest quality and a comfortable bed was made cozy with a billowy duvet and fluffy pillows. The room’s closet is huge—floor to ceiling and about eight feet in length—with plenty of hangers and thoughtful amenities included Static Guard, Woolite, and ironing starch, all of which are great assets for business travelers. The bathroom’s amenities also were nice and plentiful. The room was extremely clean and felt rich, luxurious, and new. The hotel offers complimentary use of its business center computers and printers for guests, which came in handy for printing directions and checking email. The fitness room has a nice selection of cardio equipment and weights, with large TVs in every corner of the fitness area. Further, The Madison’s fitness center offers male and female changing rooms with fully stocked showers and a nicely maintained dry sauna. You’re also sure to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff of the Madison (I was glad to have dollars on hand for tipping). To get even more bang-for-your-buck, be sure to submit The Madison’s “Stay Planner” profile (available on the hotel’s website). I received a bottle of wine and chewy chocolate chip cookies upon entering my room. An all around great experience was had at The Madison by this traveler with very high standards!

Lovely and friendly!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Madison on a work trip recently and was very impressed! The rooms were quite nice and the bedding luxurious. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was very pleased with the Madison and would highly recommend it. I did not dine at the restaurants in the hotel, therefore I cannot comment on them.

Beautiful hotel with attentive staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
Had a wonderful stay at The Madison. From the welcome by bell hop to attentive front desk to concierge staff everyone was great. Room was beautifully appointed with very confortable king bed with nice linens. I had filled out our preference profile on-line and while none of it was in our room as advertised one mention to the concierge and he immediately set out to rectify the situation. Good proximity to excellent restaurants and only a couple blocks to the Metro which will take you to almost anywhere in DC. The one disappointmet was the hotel restaurant...very overpriced especially for breakfast. "American" breakfast was $18. C'mon really 2 eggs, toast and bacon can't cost that much even in DC! We only made this mistake once, there was a deli right down the street that served a perfectly satisfactory omelet for $4! Other than that we'll definitely make our Washington stays at The Madison!

Wonderful staff - best we have ever encountered!

from nikinou
We just spent a wonderful weekend in DC - Oct. 9 & 10, 2004. My husband and I were traveling with our 2 children, 5 and 6 years old and had an absolutely lovely stay. The Madison is a beautiful, well appointed hotel. The hotel is sparklingly clean, with all the bells and whistles, fluffy robes, etc. - the beds were simply heavenly, but the best feature, without question, was the hotel staff. Every single person, from the doorman to the conceirge and desk clerks, was very polite, efficient and helpful...and all with a great attitude and a smile. They were just terrific with our 2 boys, not something one might expect in this type of hotel, which is clearly more geared toward adult guests. I found this to be rather nice, that they would treat children so well, asking them directly about their day, what they saw and what they did, rather than regarding them as a nuisance! In over 25 years of travel for both business and pleasure, in my view, this is one of the best hotels I have visited. Make reservations and enjoy your stay!

re in a hurry.

This restaurant is slow, slow, slow. Although the décor and food are good, the pace at which the staff works makes it virtually impossible to get out of there in less than 2 hours. This place desperately needs to speed things up if it plans to survive on the business lunch crowd.

t Eat at the Palette

from A TripAdvisor Member
I would not recommend eating at the Palette. I brought someone there for a first date. My veal was pretty bad and the server was relatively lazy about filling up wine/water glasses. Then I had problems with the valet guy and getting my car. Overall the food was mediocre at best as was the service - all of this for a meal that was over $200. I didn't want to make a big fuss over things as I didn't want to add alot of unpleasantness on an evening with someone I barely knew.

The real problem came when I tried to complain. My phone calls / emails were not returned and when I finally got a manager on the phone, she was rude and didn't really want to listen to what I had to say. I would think that, for $200, at a bare minimum, you could get a manager who would politely listen to any criticism its patrons provide.

I've been to many of the better restaurants in DC over the past several years that I've lived here, and my experience at Palette was far and away the worst. I'm sure there have been others with better meals, but it is certainly not a place I'd recommend.

A Classic!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Madison while in town for a conference, and I truly enjoyed my stay! This hotel is all about service - everyone I encountered was SO attentive! My room (901) was wonderfully appointed and very spacious. The bed was heavenly (even better than the Westin) and the marble bathroom was stocked with robes, plush towels (the towel warmer was a very nice touch!) and Penhaligon bath products. In the closet, I discovered a can of spray starch and Static Guard when I went to iron my clothes in the morning. Truly the icing on the cake! I will DEFINITELY stay here again...

Ceiba Restaurant Just a few blocks from the hotel was Ceiba, food was amazing, service was A++++. We could not fault the food, wine, cocktails or service. Decoration of the dining room is quite crazy, huge palm fans in the windows, looks quite like a gentlemans club but don't let this put you off!!
