My wife and i had a great time at "Club Quarters", when we travelled to Boston recently for business. Service, the pub, and accommodations were very nice. The location was perfect for our needs. We even got to meet old friends from Conn. Who also stayed at the Quarters. We would definitely visit again.

The room was comfortable and the location was great for early morning walks. The only way you get see anything on business.
It remains one of my favorite purely based on the location as it gives you a real sense of Washington from the moment you step onto the street.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Club Quarters Hotel

CQ strikes out after 3 chances to prove itself

from A TripAdvisor Member
Let me qualify my remarks by mentioning that for the non-business traveler who will be siteseeing all day, this hotel may be OK because of its location and price. But, if you are in DC on business, beware.

LOCATION:
This hotel definitely has a prime location -- next to Lafayette Park, at a metro stop and walking distance to White house and other attractions.

BEST BET
If you are a tourist or student and you are busy all day and tired at night and you are used to small rooms and will be tired enough not to care about the beds.

WORST BET
If you are a business traveler and need reliable Internet connection, and desk space to work. And, a good night’s sleep on a comfortable bed

THE ROOM
Not only are are the rooms small, the bathrooms I've had require some maneuvering to set up your toiletries and do other “stuff” you do in a bathroom. In the last three weeks, I’ve been in three different CQ rooms a total of 15 days. And each room had some quirk to it. Stay 1: room temperature unbearably hot. Stay 2: non-working clock. Stay 3: musty smell. And during every stay, very uncomfortable beds, and in each of the rooms, the Internet connection continued to drop about every 5-10 minutes. I gave them three chances and they’ve struck out. I’ve booked my future DC stays at another nearby hotel.

RESTAURANT: OK. It doesn’t belong to the hotel. Prices typically steep for big-city dining. Several little bistro places nearby for breakfast and lunch

A quarter of space

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Club Quarters was very appropriately named. It literally had a quarter of the average space of a typical hotel room. I was surprised when I walked in to the lobby. It was old looking and the carpet had stains. The staff was rude and when I made a request (another pillow) it was flatly ignored. This hotel definitely is rated high at its boasted 3 1/2 stars; I would more appropriately say it rated at 2 1/2 stars.

The television was small and located in an odd spot that proved to make it uncomfortable to watch it from bed. The shower (no tub) had the feel of a camp stall shower. No room to even shave.

Great location!

from Travel-IL
I stayed @ Club Quarters for several days at the beginning of August. The location is fabulous as it is a few steps from the Farragut West metro stop. Just a note that you want to exit at 17th street from that stop to be next to the hotel. The 17th street exit isn't open on Sat or Sun, so you need to exit thru 18th street exit and walk the block to the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I didn't eat in the restaurant, but there are places around the hotel to eat and there is a CVS drug store a few blocks away. The room was small, but clean, cool and comfortable. All which I appreciated since it was in the mid-upper 90s when I was there. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Excellent value! Friendly Staff!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I found this hotel by chance on the tripadvisor website. I was attracted by the price, but arrived aware that economy often translates into less than adequate accommodations.

We were pleasantly surprised at this hotel. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Hotel amenities were comparable if not superior to those offered in neighboring 4 star hotels. Rooms were spotless.

The location is incredible for tourists. The hotel sits directly above a Metro station which puts all tourist sites within easy reach. The White House is within walking distance.

I was so pleased that I intend to seek out Club Quarters Hotels when I visit other cities!

Very Good Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
Small, but clean and very quiet. Excellent for business travel. Metro is next door, Firehook Bakery facing Farragut Square is great for breakfast, Cafe Soleil adjacent to Club Quarters is very good for dinner. Complimentary wireless signal was excellent, and hotel has computers with printers available for shared use.

The Hardest Beds in the World and the Most Pricey Breakfast I Ever Had

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hi! I just found out about your reviews. When it comes to kind and curtious staff they have it. It is also Clean. But, the beds are the hardest single beds that I have ever slept on. The information that was used on the internet stated that the beds were pillow topped. I am not looking for pillow topped. Just a good bed. They were clean but hard as rocks. Maybe the doubles are pilow topped, but not the singles. My cousin and I stayed 5 days. We only tried the dining area once and that was too much. I expected to pay more for food in Washington D.C. I know the hotel does not run the dining room. The dining room waiter/manager was asked if we did not want the breakfast buffet, could we have just a pastery and orange juice. We paid the same price as the buffet! We were not advised of this. We were told by te waiter/manager that we did not have to buy the buffet, but we could do this. That was the most expensive orange juice I ever drank. The hotel front desk manager had gotten to know us. So, we showed him our bills. He looked at our bills and said that he would show the hotel manager. That he could not belive it either. He again informed me that the dining room was not part of the hotel management. They had a wonderful limo. driver! It was just about the same cost as a cab to the Dulles Airport. Smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. It had been rated a four star at the time. I think it is down to a 2 1/2 star now.

excellent choice

from UkSheffield
This is a great location, right by a number of metro stations and easy walking distance to the White House end of the Mall. Other good hotels and restaurants are close by and there is also some good shopping on Connetticut, 5 mins walk. Rooms comfortable, though quite small. Free internet is excellent. Certainly recommended.

Value, no frills though...

from uscshannon
My husband and I stayed for President's weekend Feb 18-21, 2005 and received a great value of $82/night via hotwire. Club Quarters was only 2 blocks to the White House and right next to a metro stop. The room was small, tastefully decorated, and clean. We had a view of a park from our window. The bathroom was on the small side with only a stand up shower. There was a small mini fridge and microwave in the room. The hotel offers free Internet access, which is nice to look up info on local activities etc. We checked in early after a red-eye flight and were charged an additional $30. There is a Starbucks, Subway Sandwiches, and CVS close by.
Would highly recommend this hotel, as it is a great value.

Staying here was a good value

from jdeneen
Club Quarters DC, just like the Club Quarters in other major US cities, gives you a clean room in a central location for a good price. It is true, the rooms are on the small side, and there aren't droves of hotel staff catering to your every whim, but so what? The point of staying here is location, location, location. Many attractions are within walking distance, and there is a metro station right underneath the building for those attractions that are further away. If you are going to be out and about during most of your stay in DC, and all you need is a decent room to get some sleep at night, then this is the place for you. I've stayed at Club Quarters in Boston, Philly & DC, and I'd stay at all of them again.

good price, good location

from travellevret
This hotel is a great value in a very good location, and is a top choice--depending on your needs. It is very near the Metro. Rooms are clean, but small. The hotel has a very small lobby and no 'extras' to speak of, so it is best when you need a room mostly to sleep and not a place to spend a lot of time. Parking is not convenient. It is good choice when you do not have a car and will be waling or using the metro to get around.

Top Local Tips for Washington

Sightseeing Definitely buy a two day sightseeing tour to see as much as possible. I got mine from Tourmobile which includes Arlington Cemetary. Wear comfortable shoes!

Parking in DC Expensive and can be difficult. Parking on the street is not the best idea.
