Great value and location

For location and price, this is hard to beat in Washington, and there's a good breakfast thrown in with lots of healthy choices. I could adjust the air-conditioning (don't know about getting heat - it's really summer here!). The so-called kitchenette is the only disappointment - basically a fridge and a microwave and plastic plates and cutlery and no cooking utensils, so not really for preparing meals, just reheating. But maybe in bigger suites it's better.

I'm travelling on business with work to do at the Folger Library and Library of Congress, and I had a room that's larger than an average hotel room (a great luxury for a solo traveller). Quiet neighbourhood and walking distance from central DC and all the museums you could wuish. Eastern Market great, and a selection of good cheap restaurants nearby on Pennsylvania Ave. It felt safe, and I could come & go as I pleased. Free wi-fi in the hotel foyer was useful, and the free daily Washington Post. I'd stay here again without a second thought.

Usually, I make my own hotel reservations. But against my better judgement, this particular reservation was made by a third party for me. As one writer stated, our room was dark, dreary and molded. Although it was April, this particular weekend was cold and rainy in the DC area. The heat in the hotel was off and the air conditioned was full blast when my family and I arrived. The clerk explained that the heat could not be turned on as it was remotely controlled. We asked for a couple of extra blankets... and are still waiting for then to arrive. I had extreme difficulty hooking up to the internet. I called the front desk and the clerk could not help me, and instead had a technician contact me about 30 minutes later. After spending about 45 minutes trying to walk me through the connection, the technician finally concluded that the room was not wired for the internet.
Because it was late, my family and I stayed the night. The next morning, I promptly walked into the lobby, got on their computer and booked a room at another hotel. The continnental breakfast was nothing to rave about; they charged me for valet parking, yet my vehicle was simply moved to the other side of the street. Even my 9 year old son complained about this hotel. Suffice it to say, we all hated it!

Great location and value

Across the street from Library of Congress, a few blocks from the Folger Shakespeare Library, and walking distance to the Capitol and Mall museums, this hotel is a great location with very reasonable rates. The recently renovated room was clean, the bed comfortable, and I enjoyed the pleasant quiet residential neighborhood. The staff was friendly and helpful. Refrigerator, microwave, coffemaker, and high speed internet access in each room makes it an ideal place for an extended business or research visit as well as for tourists.

Within walking distance of several great restaurants. Wonderful breakfast buffet. Very dignified-upper class and charming! Also walking distance to the capitol.

The hotel is located one block from the Capitol, metro....they have free breakfast and huge rooms...We had a great stay!!

If you want luxury or high level amenities, this is probably not your hotel, but for value, convenience and comfort, it's just great. The location is steps from everything, including an amazing assortment of local Capitol Hill neighborhood restaurants. The hotel itself is fairly small and simple (think converted apartment building) but the rooms are ample and well furnished. The continental breakfast is adequate, but I would recommend the local diner a half block away. Parking is a bit of a challenge, as almost everywhere else in Washington, but the multi-purposes staff can help with that as well. Everyone is friendly and helpful, and don't be surprised to run into familiar TV faces in the lobby, since this is also the home away from home for a few politicos. Overall a great experience.

Although I had confirmed bookings for two suites, none were available on arrival. They gave us two dark, unpleasant rooms instead.. after trying to get us to share one room. They had simply overbooked and were perfectly UNapologetic about it.

Not good as it sounds

I reached the hotel in the night, to my surprise, they provided me a room which was burning like OVEN. Had to call the customer service more than 5 times for a change in room. First he replied, that there is no room available. After 30 minutes, the receptionist came and checked. He said he will provide me a different room (first he said, later he agreed he will give new room).
This room was okay, there were dust in the room and bath tub was not cleaned full. The windows were dusty ....
If you are looking for place near Capitol Hill then okay, but my recommendation is look for something good in nearby place

I booked this hotel through hotwire- my 1st time using that sevice- I had no idea what to expect. I travel alot and am very picky- this was the best hotel I have ever stayed in, to date. We arrived late and were checked in within nanoseconds. We were told about the continental breakfast which had 3 types of cereal, muffins, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, bagels, and fruit. The location was amazing- walk to smithsonian and metro- complimentary soap,shampoo,lotion- all there- two closets in room, plus big tv, micro,fridge- warm cozy, and extra blankets and pillows- staff was friendly and helpful- would definitely go back again!!!

THIS HOTEL IS IN A GREAT LOCATION

2/3 BLOCKS FROM THE CAPITOL BUILDING

I arrived late in aug for a few days and the staff were excellent.

Rooms were spacious, although the door was sticking a few times.

It takes 10 minutes (if that) to walk to the capitol, 15 to the washington monument , and about 25 to the white house.

The lift was really really slow.

If you want a good hotel in a good location stay here, its nothing special but its convienent

Top Local Tips for Washington

tour busq If you haven't been to Washington DC before, I would suggest you take one of the tour buses that will stop at all major monuments, etc. and you can hop on/off and spend as much or as little time as you want at each attraction. Unless you are use to doing a lot of walking, you are going to be exhausted after one day in DC. Also, it is not possible to walk to some of the must-see sights (Arlington Cemetary, Mount Vernon).

Getting Tickets to the Washington Sights Washington Monument====> BOOK EARLY! I tried to book (via their website) a visit up Washington Monument 2 months prior to my trip to DC and they were already fully booked . Capitol Building====> Get to the booth before 11AM and you should get tickets for a tour later that day. Also, if you are from outside the U.S, at the start of the tour, you can ask for International Visitors Passes to sit in the visitors gallery of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Remember that security is very tight, so allow for extra time to go through the screening processes in the Capitol Building. "When in Rome"=====> For something very "Washington", I highly recommend the Capitol Steps shows in the Ronald Reagan Building on Friday and Saturday nights. Political satire at its best! Two hours of very current political comedy. Don't forget to bring photo ID as it's required to enter the Ronald Reagan Bldg.
