Quaint, cute little B and B. Very friendly staff. Let us leave luggage prior to check in time so we could go explore. Safe area. Easy walk to subway. Clean room, comfortable. with sitting area. Great breakfast in the AM. WOnderful value. Check it out!

A great bargain and in a good area

The Adams Inn is a typical semi-budget B&B. The rooms are neat, not spectacular in their furnishing, the floors are creaky and a little unlevel but in a delightful way. You definitely feel thatyou are in an old house. I slept very well there. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the Woodley Park metro stop and the walk is through a nice neighborhood. One of the great things about the Adams Inn is that is it right near 18th and Connecticut...a real center for restaurants and clubs...within a 5 minute walk there must be 20 restaurants and 10 clubs. My only wish is that they would serve a real HOT breakfast but even that is not a real problem as there is a diner down the street that is pretty good. Ask for a room away from the street if you are concerned about the fire engines at night - there is a fire station right across the street. If you are looking for a snazzy B&B to wow your significant other, the Adams is not for you, but I would definitely stay there again. Have fun!

A great place to stay!

My wife and I had a wonderful time at Adam's Inn. The location is great and convenient both to site seeing and one of the better restaurant areas in the city. The rooms were comfortable and nice and warm for this time of year. The staff was corteous, and, most of all, the price was right! All in all, staying at Adam's Inn was a significant positive addition to our trip to Washtington

Adam's Inn is a great find. The people there work hard to make the environment friendly and comfortable. The location is great, perfect for seeing DC. It has been a long time since I have felt like the price was well worth it for a place to stay.

This place greatly exceeded my expectations. I stayed there last weekend and found the Inn absolutely charming. The staff was so friendly and helpful, the breakfast was delicious and generous: not just cereal but tons of muffins, bagels and yogurt. I had a room with a private bath and found it very cozy. I also loved the location: just close enough to all the action of Adam's Morgan, but far enough away to get a peaceful, quiet night's sleep. I will definitely stay there again when I return to DC.

A total disaster

I just came from there and it was a total disaster. Now I understand why they request to pay for the room in advance - they just are afraid that the guests will disappear after 1 night spent there. The room was totally cold - there was a separate small heater, so I turned in on, but had to wait for 2 hours to feel some warmth in the room. When I turned it off in the night, then, in the morning, the room was like a freezer again because there are incredible gaps there under all the windows and doors (probably this is the reason why they want to save $ on central heating - no reason to heat when having such gaps everywhere!!). It`s nasty to come from a cold weather to even a colder room!
Second thing, there are clounds of dust everywhere - the decoration on the walls is nice, but no-one cleans it, and the dust was everywhere in the room. After I got a terrible allergy reaction in the night, I ended up by washing all the bed clothing (for my own money, of course), so I could breathe better in the night. And the funniest thing was the breakfast, which is included in the price. Forget about it. The breakfast room is too small, some people had to come back and forth and were eating where they could, and BTW, there was nothing to eat - 2 slices of bread and some bagels, and oatmeal, I didn`t see anything else. I could forget about any breakfast, I ate it in another place. So don`t be fooled by the breakfast pictures on their web-site. If you have the time to wait until the other guests finished their breakfast (and maybe left something for you), and if you are ready to clead your room yourself, wash everything, and then freeze all the time inside, then I wish you good luck.
I regret every cent I paid for this terrible experience. Never ever.

Charming (except for lack of heat on autumn night)

Charming, great value b&b in very convenient location-- close to metro, bus connections. Lots of included extras (computer room with wireless internet; tea, coffee, and cookies; games; videos; newspapers, etc.). BUT I stayed one night in October when it gets cool at night, the central heat was not turned on and I was uncomfortably cold all night.

Just Perfect

We stayed at the Adams Inn during Easter, only there several nights but what a lovely little guest house in a super location and for a great price. The rooms were quaint, clean and comfortable and quite spacious too with a lot of character. The breakfast was great, yoghurts, bagels, toast, cereals that type of stuff which is more than enough to start the day off. Perhaps its being English, but I'm of the opinion you get what you pay for and I believe that we got more than that; if you want a TV in your room, big American breakfasts etc then pay the extra and go to a Marriott or one of those hotels where rooms are characterless and mass produced; for something unique, original and welcoming then the Adams Inn is the place. Something that I was more concerned about when trawling through the hotels on Trip Advisor was the saftey issue, I have to say that we didnt feel intimidated in the least, at night we felt safe no problem. Down town Washington is only a short distance by underground, where the nearest station is about a 15mins walk (if that). However the Adams is in walking distance to the many great Restaurants and bars in the Adams Morgan. Finally I would like to thank Anne and her staff for their hospitality and for helping make our Washington vacation a memorable one.....cheers!

Fine except for the mattress

We stayed at the Inn 5/12-5/16/04. First of all the AC worked wonderfully, which is a major plus in DC. Our room (#33) was average size, with a dresser, desk and one lounge chair. Only one side of the bed had a rather weak reading lamp, which was a minor inconvenience for us. We went for a private in-room bath, which was tiny but adequate. The real complaint was the mattress--we could feel springs poking out in spots. (Not all the way out so there was metal against you--there just wasn't as much padding on them as there should have been. Put simply, the mattress felt really old and worn out.) But, the price was great, and breakfast ok in a boring sort of way. If we go to DC again, we'll try another B&B...not that this was so bad, but becuase it seems like there may be something better.

A Pleasant and Comfortable Stay

Having never stayed at a bed and breakfast before, my husband and I were not sure what to expect when I booked us at Adam's Inn for a combination business/vacation. The rate was great by Washington D.C. standards because we were offered a weekly rather than nightly rate. Upon arriving we were pleasantly suprised our accomodations. Our spacious room was furnished with antique like furnishings (not your typical hotel style) and most importantly was very clean. We had the tiniest bathroom I had ever seen but because it was in our room it served us well. Adam's Inn had several rooms for the guests to mingle that were all nicely furnished. We enjoyed the opportunity to visit with other guests who were not only from other cities but from other counties.
We did take advantage of the morning breakfast that was offered but felt that it lacked a little variety. Because we stayed for an entire week, toast, juice, cereal and yougurt got to be a bit boring although it was well presented and fresh. Because we spent most of our time while in D.C. in the White House/Capitol mall area, I felt like we had a bit of a hike each day getting to and from the Inn to our destinations. The "10 minute" walk to the metro is if you're a fast walker (which we are) and isn't much fun if you get caught in the rain which we did several times. Don't forget your umbrella. I would certainly recommend Adam's Inn for other travelers except if you want to be close to the hustle and bustle of Washington's business and tourist sights. We were happy to have stayed there.

Top Local Tips for Washington

Library of Congress -- way cool From this hotel you can take one bus line directly to the Library of Congress which is TOTALLY worth a visit. We visited the historic map room and had a great time looking at maps of our hometown from the 1800s.

Old Post Office We stumbled upon the Old Post Office. There was a sign out front "Free Tower Tours". We went inside and went up into the tower (no waiting). It was one of those unexepted treats. We had gone up in the Washington Monument earlier (having waited in line for tickets) and the view from the Old Post Office in our opinion was better. The tower isn't as tall but the observation area is open to the elements rather than enclosed with small windows looking out. We could see the Washington Monument, the Capitol building, the National Cathedral, etc. My husband and I are both architects and really enjoyed exploring this historic building's tower.

National Zoo Don't miss the zoo--it's amazing!
