Top Local Tips for Hartford
Free bus Unless you have a problem walking, skip the free bus (Star bus) that runs around downtown and get out and explore.
Free access to observation deck at Travelers Tower! Across the street from the art museum stands the Travlers Tower (offices of the Travelers Insurance company). Go to the guard desk on the ground floor of the tower and ask for access to the observation deck at the top (above the 24th floor). I waited for some 15 minutes before the next small group went up. After the elevator ride to the 24th floor and navigating a narrow winding staircase, I found myself enjoying perhaps the best view of Hartford, with views from all four sides of the tower's deck. There was no charge for this vista. When I went, the guard said the deck is accessible on weekdays before 2 pm. Because of the narrow staircase just before reaching the top, this site is probably not suited for those needing assistance in walking, etc.
Parking fee is $18 per night Covered parking is available in the parking garage directly behind the Hilton. This parking garage also doubles for the XL Center parking garage when there is an event. However, there is a designated area for Hilton guests to park on the 1st floorof the garage on the right side. This gives you easy access to the back door of the hotel.
