Historical Traveller Reviews of Marriott Vail Mountain Resort and Spa Hotel

A little pricey for off-season

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Marriott Vail Resort, May 16-18, 2006. I knew when I booked the hotel it is off-season in Vail and there would not be a lot of people or crowds. However, I did not realize that practically the entire city shuts down. Some places close for months, others for weeks. It is also the time that hotels plan construction. My room was on the back side of the hotel facing the mountains and river. I had a balcony, but never could use it, because of the huge hotel that is being constructed just behind the hotel. The noise started about 8:00am and they usually quit around 6:00pm. I was not in my room that much, but if you were trying to have a relaxing day at the hotel, it would not have happened. The room was nice and the beds were great. Very comfortable with huge down comforters. I had to call around to see what restaurants were open in town. There were only a handful open. I would not advise a trip there between May and June.....

Spring Break Ski Vacation 2006

from reman2005
Just got home Friday night from our five night stay at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort and Spa. Our family (my wife and two kids, ages 18 and 15) had a great time and hope to stay here again in the future.
And yes, the spring skiing at Vail was awesome too! From the time we checked-in, the hotel staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed.

List of greats:
1. Pamela S. the Marriott concierge. She spoke with me before our stay to give recommendations on restaurants and activities for us. She even mailed to me maps and travel brochures on Vail. She and the other concierges did an awesome job.
2. The ski valet for boots and skis storage.
3. Pools, hot tubs and steam room. I think my kids enjoyed them every night after skiing.
4. Pat Hamilton, she sung at the hotel bar from 4-7pm. She has a super voice.
5. Hotel bar, very comfortable and a great place to relax with friends after skiing.
6. Quite and clean rooms.
7. Our view of the ski slopes from our room.
8. Free shuttle bus to the Vail Village (located right outside the main hotel entrance).
9. Free use of computers in the business center (3 of them). Allowed our kids to keep in touch with their friends.
10. Free hot cookies and hot chocolate at 4pm every night. We all loved them a little too much.

List of negatives:
1. The standard hotel room is on the small size and with four adults, ski clothes and suitcases it was packed. We were lucky we are family. I would suggest that this size room should only be used by two people. Next time, I’ll get two rooms or upgrade to a suite.
2. The walk from the hotel to the Lionhead’s lift is through a construction area for another new high rise condo. The route is well marked, but the path is rough gravel and is unlevel in a number of spots. I really hope that after the construction is done that the route is paved and level.

Very Enjoyable Stay

We stayed at this hotel with our two young children using Marriott Points from 2/14-19; the week before President's Day Weekend. The room was clean and nicely appointed (especially the nice sized renovated bathroom). However, as expected from other posts, the room (two double beds) was rather small, and there were very few drawers (almost none) to unpack a family of four with all of our ski clothes. So we lived out of large suitcases for a week in cramped surroundings. However, the hotel more than made up for the tight room with their tremendous service. The front desk staff was always helpful and courteous. And when my daughter left behind her new suede shoes at the outdoor hot tub, the hotel security staff very promptly, professionally and cheerfully hand-delivered them back to our room. The valet parking and bell folks were all extremely prompt, helpful with directions and efficient. And they seemed genuinely and unusually grateful for tips -- I guess many of the well-heeled folks who stay there must be too cheap to pay for good service. The restaurant breakfast buffet was perfect for the family, although the wait staff seemed a bit overwhelmed (as was everyone else providing services in Vail!) on the Saturday morning of President's Day Weekend. Finally, even the mainenance staff was cheerful and helpful. When my wife was lost trying to find the indoor pool, the maint. fellow dropped what he was doing and personally escorted her to the pool. And 10 minutes later, the same fellow responded to my request through the front desk to remove the heavy insulating tarp off the outdoor pool so my kids could swim outside in the winter! Although my family was keeping him busy, he kept up his smile. As did we for an entire week at this hotel. I'd definitely come back -- especially on Marriott Points.

ve Ever Stayed At!!

We stayed at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort and Spa from March 3-March 6, 2006, using Marriott Reward points. What a fabulous spot! We enjoyed a studio king suite, which was a nice size, with a great bathroom and a view of the mountains. Everything was spotlessly clean, the staff was wonderful--a lot of young people from all over the world. The concierge staff were very helpful, efficient and friendly. Breakfast buffet is out of this world! Dinner at Ocotillo in the resort was a little unorganized, but the food was good--I think they are relatively new, and once they get going, it will be fine. The atmostphere was relaxed, with the bar area on the main level. They provided entertainment in the way of single singers each evening, and we very much enjoyed sitting on the comfortable couches with a drink listening to the music. The location is very convenient--you are close to the Gondola and a shuttle(free)is available every 10 minutes or so to take you to the town of Vail. If you have Marriott points and are looking for a great place to redeem them, this resort is the spot!! We will definitely be back, if we have the chance!

Disappointing

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is overpriced and overrated. I will never stay here again. For over $400/night for a standard room you get a hotel that not much better then a Best Western in Frisco. Lack amenities and restaurants. Coffee or Tea in the AM will cost you $4 when most places are complementary. Rooms are small and cramped, walls are paper thin. The SPA is a laugher, think of your high school sports med locker room, massage rooms are right off main walkway to pool, signs say keep quiet, mostly ignored by families with kids on way to have fun. Service is surprisingly impolite and with a touch of arrogance. This would be in a class that I would rate $79/night type hotel.

Horrible Cancellation Policy

from A TripAdvisor Member
I cancelled a four night stay two months in advance and was charged $615 ( two nights) though we were not told of this outrageous policy in advance. We will never stay at Marriott again. They were rude and said "This is a business and we can do as we like".m

Marriott was great!

from jeanniedc
Just stayed at the Marriott for 6 nights. I had been there last year, and found it even better this year. Service was much better this year. There were some minor problems with our room (telephone, temperature control), but all were dealt with immediately and very courteously. Room was large (studio king suite) with excellent bathroom. Front desk staff and concierges extremely nice. No evidence of construction at the hotel. Spa/massage was great.

The friendly side of Vail

from sugarnels
We just spent three days skiing in Vail, Dec. 13,14,15. From the moment we arrived at The Vail Mountain Marriott it was like stepping into our Mountain Dream. We were graciosly welcomed like you always wished you would be. People attending to us like it mattered that we were there. We were enchanted with the large rusticly elegant lobby and the upscale appointments of our deluxe king suite. It started snowing and finally amounted to the best early snow in 47 years. What a Christmas present! Enjoy the mountains the way it should be at this resort.

Thanks for a great Thanksgiving vacation

We were blessed with wonderful snow conditions...the skiing was a blast!
We totally enjoyed our stay at the Resort. Spotless rooms, accomodating staff, good food.
We will come back.

Loved it!

After reading some of these reviews, I wasn't expecting this hotel to be so great. However, I thought it was beautiful. Usually the service in mountain resort towns are a little, laxed...But the service here was excellent. We received a great room, nice fireplace, big king size, nonsmoking, bathroom was awesome!
We had appetizers and drinks at the lobby bar and the food was great, friendly service. The lobby was festively decorated for Christmas and the location was so close to the lift. I didn't get a chance to go to the Spa and had to hang in the room since I have young baby. But, the room was so cozy and the room services was yummy, so it was a great day! I would highly recommend this hotel. In fact, I think it may be nicer than the Hyatt in Beaver Creek! Maybe because you get more room for the money.(I paid $189.00 for a Saturday night and there was a fireplace, kitchenette, etc. The Hyatt Beaver Creek you can't get much for anything under $200.00).
I did have two little complaints... 1) we HAD to valet park 2) We had to share a balcony with the room next to us which creeped me out! We could look right into their rooms and vice versa. Plus, I worry about safety with the sliding glass doors...Luckily, our neighbor wasn't in his room much...Plus, I am sure he was hating it because since our rooms were joined, we could hear everything! Which means he heard our baby screaming at 3:00am...Poor guy!

Top Local Tips for Vail

Garfs and Vendetta's Garfinkles is a great place for Apres and Vendetta's is an excellent place for dinner

Moe's BBQ in Lionshead Great bbq on the cheap!

White-Water Rafting If you go in the summer, I strongly recommend that you go white-water rafting. This is a great experience, and is fun and family-friendly. If you do go white-water rafting, there are many companies in the area to accomodate you. I specifially recommend the company I used, Nova Guides, Inc. You can get more information from the company directly, or from the hotel concierge. Have fun!!!
