Top Local Tips for Telluride
Altitude Beware that the altitude can get to some people. I had no problems at all, my husband was pretty ill. The trick is to detox before coming to the mountains, and you do this by drinking a lot of water and no alcohol for at least a week before coming.
great casual food We went for dinner at the Brown Dog. Great spot with great hamburgers and pizza. But get there early.
Flying into Telluride People might not know this but -due to weather-if you fly into the Telluride airport your arrival may get diverted to a city that is fifty to one hundred miles away. Your flight out of the Telluride airport might also get delayed The airstrip is small and the mountains cause a hairy landing (not for the faint of heart). The airport needs a mile visibility so in a snow storm you could be out of luck. Also, our friend arrived at the airport two hours early for his departure out of Telluride and they bumped him anyway. He had to stay in Denver overnight because he missed his connecting flight. Don't take chances, book your flight through Montrose airport which is about an hour and a half away, but there is a free shuttle service to Telluride. It beats that small airstrip and taking a chance of being delayed or diverted.
