Historical Traveller Reviews of Comfort Inn & Suites Hotel
Disappointed by second stay
from CaseynoCheck-in was efficient, and the room was ready at 3:00. The room was a one-bedroom suite, with a microwave and fridge, table and 2 dining chairs. There was a king bed and a sleeper sofa. The unit appeared identical to our earlier stay, with the exception of a new bedspread. The room has the only balcony facing the rear of the property, which was one of the reasons for our repeat booking. But when we went outside, we notice a very strong creosote smell, so we didn't use the balcony this time around.
When it was time for the kids to go to bed, we unfolded the sleeper sofa. Yuck! Housekeeping had not changed the sheets, which had wine stains on them. We also found some dirty kleenex on the bed, and the mattress was stained and very uncomfortable. We called the front desk, and clean sheets were delivered a short time later.
There were several maintenance issues in this room...the bath light and fan were slipping out of the ceiling, the security latch on the door was loose on the bottom, and the card keys constantly had to be reconfigured.
I used the laundry facilities one evening, and after peering into one of the two washing machines, found a large amount of dirt inside the machine. I used the other machine and informed the front desk of the dirty machine. When I returned to transfer my laundry to the dryer, I discovered that the load was heavy with water, and the soap was still on top of the clothes. I decided to dump four more quarters into the machine and hoped for a better rinse, but while I stood over the machine, it became apparent that the machine did not agitate! Again, I approached the front desk, and they said that housekeeping would let me use the hotel machines to rinse and spin the water out of my clothes, at which point I could return to the laundry facility and use the guest dryer to complete the cycle. At this point, I loaded my very wet, very heavy clothes into the hotel's basket and hauled them down the stairs to housekeeping. Finally, after using their washer and dumping four more quarters into the dryer (I had to ask for a refund on the washer, and was given $1 back), my laundry chores were complete. Not a great ending to the evening.
Breakfast was well-stocked, but not as good as we remembered from the previous visit. The staff did a good job keeping up with the demands of the sold-out property, but the juice machine was broken the last two days of our stay.
The property seems to have slipped since our last stay...the staff was responsive to problems, but there were a few too many problems overall, and we will probably look elsewhere when we return to the area.
The hospitality was great!

from NorthannaMy faith on this hotel chain restored
from Starviagerarafting trips on the Animas River, also took an ATV tour on the mountains.....not for me, not again….. The hotel has a coin Laundromat that was very handy after the raft trip in the morning and
the ATV tour in the afternoon. We had a great dinner at East by South
West. Also the Chinese in main street was very good. I would stay in this hotel again.
It was a great experience
from aknausThough there was a continental breakfast, we mostly ate out for breakfast. There wasn't any fresh fruit which was a disappointment.
Thank you.
Good place if you need a lot of space

from alschechtermanNice hotel with a few problems
from AZKarenFirst, the positives: The room was large, clean and very nicely decorated. The beds were very comfortable. There was a generous supply of towels and they were nice and soft. The paper products used in the bathroom were of very high quality (no sandpaper-like Kleenex at this hotel). Our room faced the back of the property and we heard very little outside noise. Our check-in was very fast and with no waiting (however, we did notice that later in the afternoon, there was a line of 3 or 4 people waiting to check in).
The negatives are: The base of the bathroom sink faucet leaked quite a bit onto the counter whenever you turned the water on and the metal bar lock that flips across the door to prevent entry was broken (the deadbolt did work fine, however). To the hotel’s credit, they fixed both items the first day that we were there. But the morning of our departure I was taking a shower when the faucet in the bathtub fell off of the tub wall. Fortunately, I was able to put it back on for a few minutes and finish showering before it fell off again. I reported this to the front desk when we checked out and they were very apologetic. The other negative to our stay was while our hotel room was quiet in regards to outside noise, we could hear voices coming from the other rooms. Not all the time, but on more than one occasion and for a rather prolonged period of time on our second night.
Even with the negatives, this is still a nice, clean hotel with a good location and I would most likely stay here again.
Top Local Tips for Durango
Durang & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad If you haven't taken this train ride it is a "must do". Ride in the summer when the weather is great and the trees are green, or in autumn when the leaves turn. Roundtrip takes all day, but you can return to Durango by bus and save a couple of hours. The bus drivers usually have good information on sights along the way too.
Awesome Bakery There is a small bakery on the north side of town named "Bread". It is awesome. Can't think of a better bakery.
Durango This seems to be a college town. We asked the front desk for a place where we could get pizza. She told us of a great place called Home Slice Pizza. You must go to if you are in Durango. However, be warned that there are an abundance of college age kids everywhere. We were with our pre-teen kids and the college kids that came into the restaurant were a bit rude to have around our kids. I would recommend getting food to go and taking it back to the hotel. We also stopped at Starbucks in the morning and again were inaudated with college kids who weren't considerate at all.
