Disappointed by second stay

from Caseyno
We booked our four-night stay months in advance based upon a previous positive experience at this property. We actually stayed in the same room as two years before, but the experience was different than our last stay.

Check-in was efficient, and the room was ready at 3:00. The room was a one-bedroom suite, with a microwave and fridge, table and 2 dining chairs. There was a king bed and a sleeper sofa. The unit appeared identical to our earlier stay, with the exception of a new bedspread. The room has the only balcony facing the rear of the property, which was one of the reasons for our repeat booking. But when we went outside, we notice a very strong creosote smell, so we didn't use the balcony this time around.

When it was time for the kids to go to bed, we unfolded the sleeper sofa. Yuck! Housekeeping had not changed the sheets, which had wine stains on them. We also found some dirty kleenex on the bed, and the mattress was stained and very uncomfortable. We called the front desk, and clean sheets were delivered a short time later.

There were several maintenance issues in this room...the bath light and fan were slipping out of the ceiling, the security latch on the door was loose on the bottom, and the card keys constantly had to be reconfigured.

I used the laundry facilities one evening, and after peering into one of the two washing machines, found a large amount of dirt inside the machine. I used the other machine and informed the front desk of the dirty machine. When I returned to transfer my laundry to the dryer, I discovered that the load was heavy with water, and the soap was still on top of the clothes. I decided to dump four more quarters into the machine and hoped for a better rinse, but while I stood over the machine, it became apparent that the machine did not agitate! Again, I approached the front desk, and they said that housekeeping would let me use the hotel machines to rinse and spin the water out of my clothes, at which point I could return to the laundry facility and use the guest dryer to complete the cycle. At this point, I loaded my very wet, very heavy clothes into the hotel's basket and hauled them down the stairs to housekeeping. Finally, after using their washer and dumping four more quarters into the dryer (I had to ask for a refund on the washer, and was given $1 back), my laundry chores were complete. Not a great ending to the evening.

Breakfast was well-stocked, but not as good as we remembered from the previous visit. The staff did a good job keeping up with the demands of the sold-out property, but the juice machine was broken the last two days of our stay.

The property seems to have slipped since our last stay...the staff was responsive to problems, but there were a few too many problems overall, and we will probably look elsewhere when we return to the area.

The hospitality was great!

from PhoenixGinger
The hospitality at this hotel was exceptional. When we asked Patti Reavis, the general manager at the front desk to help us find a restaurant, she directed us to a great place and acted as our concierage. The breakfast was above average with hot breakfast burittos. Housekeeping started knocking on doors at 7:00AM, which woke us up, but luckily we had put a "Do not Disturb" sign on our door. The rooms are comfortable.

Suites at Durango, CO

Very comfortable, clean and nice Quality Inn at Durango CO. Staff extremely helpful with info about the area. Convenient and easy to find hotel off highway to Durango. Manager was very helpful and nice. Just a premium experience. Will go again.

My faith on this hotel chain restored

from Starviagera
Nice clean rooms. Hot breakfast. Close to down town Durango. No refrigerator and no in room safe to make it a perfect stay. Very calm
rafting trips on the Animas River, also took an ATV tour on the mountains.....not for me, not again….. The hotel has a coin Laundromat that was very handy after the raft trip in the morning and
the ATV tour in the afternoon. We had a great dinner at East by South
West. Also the Chinese in main street was very good. I would stay in this hotel again.

It was a great experience

from aknaus
We had driven all afternoon to Durango from Santa Fe and called the hotel while on the road. We lost connection before finalizing our stay, but were told 2 rooms would be held for us - 2 couples. The front desk was very helpful and friendly. When we arrived we were checked in promptly and directed to some restaurants in the area. The room was clean and spacious. The maid staff was very friendly and did a great job of keeping our room clean. We left a note that one of the lamp lights was out and it was replaced when we returned to our room in the evening. We stayed 3 nights.
Though there was a continental breakfast, we mostly ate out for breakfast. There wasn't any fresh fruit which was a disappointment.
Thank you.

Good place if you need a lot of space

from SMFarley
We stayed in the family suite with four queen beds. We were traveling with five people so this was great for us. The room was large with a huge closet and plenty of space. The breakfast wasn't that good, only breakfast burritos, cold hash browns and gravy that we weren't sure where it went (there were no biscuits). The room we were in had the huge air conditioning unit for the building just outside our window so we couldn't open the windows to let in the cool spring air(the unit was extremely noisy, and if we hadn't had the two room air conditioners on, we would have still heard it with the windows closed. We had a problem with a stopped up toilet and the girl at the front desk gave us a plunger and told us we had to fix it ourselves as their maintenance guy never answered his pages. They did give us $20 off our room for the inconvenience. Despite those problems, the hotel suited our needs perfectly and we would probably stay there again.

This is a great place to stay in Durango! Very cozy! The rooms are very clean and the atmosphere is nice. The hot breakfast in the morning is so nice on those cold, Colorado mornings. We paid $65 (senior discount) and we thought the value was above and beyond the price we paid. The location is great, too - only 5 min. from the downtown area. While in the area, be sure to drive the million dollar highway to Ouray, Co. It's spectcular!!! I reccomend this hotel very highly, I hope you'll stay there! You won't be dissapointed.

Perfect for us

from Texas-One
We booked a room at this hotel with four (yes, 4) queen beds in it. With a family of five, it worked perfectly. The rate also included breakfast which for hotel breakfasts, I would rank up there with one of the better ones. The hot food was actually hot. This is a hotel with minimal frills. It was clean (inside and out), a great value for the money and perfect for a travelling family.

Terrible . . . try another chain or a local hotel or motel instead

from alschechterman
We paid more than $135 / night for two adults and one child (high season). Dirty front entrance. Somewhat cleaner hallways. Room cleanliness was acceptable. Burnt out light bulbs in room. Housekeeping tried to help but to no avail. Had to request, three times, that a rollaway be brought to our room the first evening we were there (despite it being reserved and confirmed, resulting in our four-year old daughter having to stay up later than she wanted . . . not easy to have a tired four year old, far away from home). The rollaway bed provided should have been discarded years prior (though sheets were clean). One of the hotel's staffs' boyfriend (?) spent most of the time parked in front entrance half-circle (where, I believe, was the only ramp access), with his radio blasting (the young lady who may have been his girlfriend was pleasant enough but did nothing). Breakfast food was terrible (even our daughter, who will eat almost anything, complained). Woefully non-responsive desk staff (two times, ignored us standing in front of them, as well as other customers). We left three days early (on a six day reservation). Our bill was incorrect, charged twice to our credit card company, then corrected (requiring us to get online to confirm that this was so . . . front desk person was terse and thus not convincing that credit card had been credited). By letter, hotel management was unwilling to accept the feedback we wrote per a Choice Hotels (their parent company) survey that was sent to us by Choice Hotels . . . as sufficient input to warrent a partial refund (we requested that 1/3 of our entire bill be refunded . . . we thought that was fair as it took us two days to make changes in our trip plans). Overall, terrible customer service and a disappointing experience . . . despite being in Durango on a regular basis, we don't want to get near this property again.

Nice hotel with a few problems

from AZKaren
We recently stayed 2 nights at this hotel. It is a very nice hotel with a lot of positives, but also with some negatives.

First, the positives: The room was large, clean and very nicely decorated. The beds were very comfortable. There was a generous supply of towels and they were nice and soft. The paper products used in the bathroom were of very high quality (no sandpaper-like Kleenex at this hotel). Our room faced the back of the property and we heard very little outside noise. Our check-in was very fast and with no waiting (however, we did notice that later in the afternoon, there was a line of 3 or 4 people waiting to check in).

The negatives are: The base of the bathroom sink faucet leaked quite a bit onto the counter whenever you turned the water on and the metal bar lock that flips across the door to prevent entry was broken (the deadbolt did work fine, however). To the hotel’s credit, they fixed both items the first day that we were there. But the morning of our departure I was taking a shower when the faucet in the bathtub fell off of the tub wall. Fortunately, I was able to put it back on for a few minutes and finish showering before it fell off again. I reported this to the front desk when we checked out and they were very apologetic. The other negative to our stay was while our hotel room was quiet in regards to outside noise, we could hear voices coming from the other rooms. Not all the time, but on more than one occasion and for a rather prolonged period of time on our second night.

Even with the negatives, this is still a nice, clean hotel with a good location and I would most likely stay here again.

Top Local Tips for Durango

Durang & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad If you haven't taken this train ride it is a "must do". Ride in the summer when the weather is great and the trees are green, or in autumn when the leaves turn. Roundtrip takes all day, but you can return to Durango by bus and save a couple of hours. The bus drivers usually have good information on sights along the way too.

Awesome Bakery There is a small bakery on the north side of town named "Bread". It is awesome. Can't think of a better bakery.

Durango This seems to be a college town. We asked the front desk for a place where we could get pizza. She told us of a great place called Home Slice Pizza. You must go to if you are in Durango. However, be warned that there are an abundance of college age kids everywhere. We were with our pre-teen kids and the college kids that came into the restaurant were a bit rude to have around our kids. I would recommend getting food to go and taking it back to the hotel. We also stopped at Starbucks in the morning and again were inaudated with college kids who weren't considerate at all.
