Worst Hotel Ever
from A TripAdvisor MemberPleasant stay
from A TripAdvisor MemberI stayed at this hotel for two nights just recently, as it was the host hotel for a seminar I was attending. The nightly rate was quite reasonable for this level of hotel in downtown Denver. Check-in went smoothly. I did end up asking to be moved to a different room, simply because my first was just outside of the elevator and I am a light sleeper. They changed rooms with no problems whatsoever.
The room was above average in size, furnishings were nice (reproduction antique). The balcony, however, had no seating at all. Room was clean and above average in size - consisted of queen size bed, desk, two chairs (one with ottoman). Minibar, coffee maker, iron/ironing board. Bathroom was nice and of above average size. Sink was set in more of a "desk" than the standard bathroom countertop, which was nice. Hairdryer and standard toiletries (shampoo, lotion, bath gel) were included. There is a phone in the bathroom....although I don't know why anyone would want one there. There were two other phones in the room, one by the bed and one on the desk (both had 2 lines). The room also had a radio/alarm clock and an in-room safe. The Warwick website leads you to believe the room is larger that it is...they are quite spacious, but not enormous. I was quite happy with the size. I had read *somewhere* that there were robes in the room, twice per day cleaning and a turn-down service. There apparently is non of those things. Since these services were not listed on the hotel's website, I can only assume the information was faulty. You might want to specify your view when you check in - seems like they consider all rooms to be a "city view". You really need to be on floors 5 and above if you are looking out the back of the hotel to really see any city lights, in my opinion. The back view looks out over the hotel's parking lot, but there are some lights mainly off to your right. I did hear some complaints about being charged $10 for parking. I can't comment because I didn't have a car to park.
Now, this hotel is not in the heart of downtown Denver. You are about 5 blocks from really being downtown. This is the same distance as to the 16th street Mall (which is not a Mall but more of an outside "shopping experience"). There really aren't any restaurants near the hotel, unless you walk downtown. There is a restaurant in the hotel, which looked nice, but to honest - was far more "gourmet" than I prefer. I even passed on room service this time, mostly because I'm cheap. I just can't justify $10 for a burger, plus tax, plus an 18% "service charge" plus a $2.50 delivery fee. I did take advantage of some nice weather, put on my walking shoes and hit the 16th Street Mall for shopping and dinner. I made this trip alone, so was walking downtown alone at this point. I was somewhat uncomfortable with the neighborhood after dark, so made it a point to be back in the hotel by dark. Unfortunately, Denver has its fair share of homeless people and the usual riff-raff and I just felt somewhat uneasy by myself. Not the the neighborhood is all that bad, but because it seems almost "deserted" by nightfall. It was the lack of activity and the dark corners that made me more uneasy than anything.
The conference area was not set up well, but was adequate. The food that was served was standard buffet fare. Of course it was "dolled up" and fancy, but dry fish is dry fish no matter where you go. No complaints though, because as mentioned previously, anything cooked by someone other than myself is always good!
The front desk staff was always courteous and helpful. Always asking if there was something else that I needed, etc. I only had two experiences with the cleaning staff. The first was regarding my broken coffee pot, which was replaced before the next morning. The second involved what I perceived to be an "odd smell" coming from what I thought was the heater (and made me light headed). I informed the gentleman on the floor who was with the maid and he had no idea what I was telling him. I guess he thought I couldn't get the heater to work because he came in and turned it on and smiled at me. Ok... I notified the front desk and they immediately sent someone up to investigate.
Overall, I'm pleased with the Warwick. My only *complaints* would be the lack of furniture on the balcony and possibly the location of the hotel. I just can't decide on whether the location is good or bad. Good, because you aren't right smack downtown with the noise and hubbub, bad because there really isn't anything "right next door". If you have a car, or don't mind walking - then I would say the location is great. All in all, I would recommend the hotel and actually am in the process of booking another stay next month when I will be in town for pleasure!
Warwrick Impressions
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe staff is terrific and very pleasant. Restaurant's food is excellent. Self-parking is very convenient and reasonable.
The Bad:
The walls are paper-thin (hear doors slamming; toilets flushing). Street noise is audible even from high floors. Not enough furniture in the oversized rooms. Small TV's for such large rooms. Balconies are carpeted and wet and mildewed. No balcony furniture.
Could be a four or five star hotel...but isn't now.
Beautiful room with a view.

from ILUVFOODBoy, was I pleasantly surprised. This place was absolutely terrific. I had a huge room, the bathroom was just beautiful and the location can't be beat. I highly recommend this place. A terrific value.
great location, wonderful hotel
from Tess23One of my favorite parts of the Warwick was the convenient self-parking in back of the hotel--anyone who's stayed in downtown Denver knows what a plus this is. Can't remember how much parking was per night but it was reasonable.
The Warwick is just a few blocks away from the 16th Street Mall--you'll enter the mall near the Brown Palace, if that helps with logistics.
Top Local Tips for Denver
Local landmarks "Pete's Kitchen" is a local landmark. You may have to wait in line outside for their great breakfasts.Also. "The Tavern" is a great place to just hang out. Good food and drinks!
You don't need to drive yourself The Warwick is close enough to walk to most anything you want in the downtown area. It's about 2 blocks from the start of the 16th Street Mall RTD bus (free), the Warwick provides a ride for short trips, the Capitol is only 2 blocks away. It's all pretty close.
Try the Segway Tour A friend and I took the Segway tour of downtown Denver, which was conducted by owner Larry. It was $75 for a 2-hour tour plus training us to ride the segways. Just zipping around downtown on that segway was a blast, and Larry shares interesting historical tidbits about the town, art and architecture. We rode on a day where the temperature was in the mid-70's. Larry provided sun block, but bring your own bottled water.
