Historical Traveller Reviews of The Warwick Denver Hotel

Pleasantly Suprised

from Momaly
My husband and I checked in for our 22nd anniversary. We had booked a romantic package. Upon arrival we were greeted with smiles and great attitudes. The hotel checked us in promptly and upgraded us to a suite. The room was very large with a seperate living room with a wet bar. the bedroom was large with the most comfortable bed. Everything was very clean. We had room service for both lunch and breakfast. Both meals were delicious and presented with flowers. The hotel has a car that drove us to our dinner reservation. It was very nice not to have to deal with parking our own car somewhere downtown. After dinner we called and the car picked us up promptly. The roof top pool was clean and relaxing. Please note that this hotel has balconys which is a big plus and rare in the city.We were extremely happy with this hotel and will definitly go back again.

Excellent Hotel, Fantastic Value

from Dutch Brother
It is difficult to overstate what a great deal The Warwick is. This has to be the best priced quality hotel in Denver. We got a conference rate of $112/night, but even the regular rate is not that much more. We booked a room for three (my wife, three year old, and myself) but were given a room with a single queen bed. As soon as we saw the room we asked for either a king bed or two beds and they gave us a large suite with a king bed. The suite included a large living room, a small side room with a wet bar, and a walk-in closet. Our daughter loved the very large balcony running the length of the living room and bedroom. Both the bedroom and living room had TVs that were more than adequate (despite other reviews). The bathroom was quite nice with marble surfaces and a beautiful vanity with plenty of space for laying out our toiletries. The bed was extremely comfortable and the heating/cooling unit very quiet and efficient. My only complaint was the small, scratchy towels, a real surprise in a hotel where everything else is of uniformly high quality. The lobby is very tasteful and relaxing. We did not use the restaurant as it looked a little too nice for our rambunctious three year old, but the menu looked very inviting. The rooftop pool is too small for swimming, but a delightful place to cool off with its excellent views. The service was excellent. The front desk could answer all our questions (e.g. good playground for our three year old), were very courteous, and remembered and recognized us every time we returned to the hotel. Parking is very easy and economical. The location is excellent, very close to the 16th Street Mall without being in the middle of the action. It was surprising how quiet and relaxing The Warwick is given that it is only three or four blocks from the center of the city.

loved the warwick!

Excellent, big rooms. Very comfortable. Attentive staff and the rooftop pool is a plus for the view! Stayed 3 nights and will return! Easy walk to the Brown Palace. The lounge at Warwick is very pleasant. Great directions from the airport to their location. We were very happy there. Had stayed at 3 other hotels during our 14-day journey and we were impressed with the Warwick the best!
Also suggest Vista Dipping Restaurant on Blake Street for dinner. Very reasonable and tasty.

Worst Hotel Ever

Room was well below par, actually seemed dirty. Staff questioned our reservation and did not believe price given on their web site, only to find the resevation later with no apology offered. Given key to room and no explination of were the room was. Not provided a key to the honor bar, yet was charged as if the bar was used.

Pleasant stay

I will preface this review by saying that, while I enjoy good service and nice amenities, I am relatively easy to please. My reviews are always much more kind that some I've read. Any time I'm not at home and cooking my own meal, I'm pretty happy. You add a maid and room service and I'm in heaven.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights just recently, as it was the host hotel for a seminar I was attending. The nightly rate was quite reasonable for this level of hotel in downtown Denver. Check-in went smoothly. I did end up asking to be moved to a different room, simply because my first was just outside of the elevator and I am a light sleeper. They changed rooms with no problems whatsoever.

The room was above average in size, furnishings were nice (reproduction antique). The balcony, however, had no seating at all. Room was clean and above average in size - consisted of queen size bed, desk, two chairs (one with ottoman). Minibar, coffee maker, iron/ironing board. Bathroom was nice and of above average size. Sink was set in more of a "desk" than the standard bathroom countertop, which was nice. Hairdryer and standard toiletries (shampoo, lotion, bath gel) were included. There is a phone in the bathroom....although I don't know why anyone would want one there. There were two other phones in the room, one by the bed and one on the desk (both had 2 lines). The room also had a radio/alarm clock and an in-room safe. The Warwick website leads you to believe the room is larger that it is...they are quite spacious, but not enormous. I was quite happy with the size. I had read *somewhere* that there were robes in the room, twice per day cleaning and a turn-down service. There apparently is non of those things. Since these services were not listed on the hotel's website, I can only assume the information was faulty. You might want to specify your view when you check in - seems like they consider all rooms to be a "city view". You really need to be on floors 5 and above if you are looking out the back of the hotel to really see any city lights, in my opinion. The back view looks out over the hotel's parking lot, but there are some lights mainly off to your right. I did hear some complaints about being charged $10 for parking. I can't comment because I didn't have a car to park.

Now, this hotel is not in the heart of downtown Denver. You are about 5 blocks from really being downtown. This is the same distance as to the 16th street Mall (which is not a Mall but more of an outside "shopping experience"). There really aren't any restaurants near the hotel, unless you walk downtown. There is a restaurant in the hotel, which looked nice, but to honest - was far more "gourmet" than I prefer. I even passed on room service this time, mostly because I'm cheap. I just can't justify $10 for a burger, plus tax, plus an 18% "service charge" plus a $2.50 delivery fee. I did take advantage of some nice weather, put on my walking shoes and hit the 16th Street Mall for shopping and dinner. I made this trip alone, so was walking downtown alone at this point. I was somewhat uncomfortable with the neighborhood after dark, so made it a point to be back in the hotel by dark. Unfortunately, Denver has its fair share of homeless people and the usual riff-raff and I just felt somewhat uneasy by myself. Not the the neighborhood is all that bad, but because it seems almost "deserted" by nightfall. It was the lack of activity and the dark corners that made me more uneasy than anything.

The conference area was not set up well, but was adequate. The food that was served was standard buffet fare. Of course it was "dolled up" and fancy, but dry fish is dry fish no matter where you go. No complaints though, because as mentioned previously, anything cooked by someone other than myself is always good!

The front desk staff was always courteous and helpful. Always asking if there was something else that I needed, etc. I only had two experiences with the cleaning staff. The first was regarding my broken coffee pot, which was replaced before the next morning. The second involved what I perceived to be an "odd smell" coming from what I thought was the heater (and made me light headed). I informed the gentleman on the floor who was with the maid and he had no idea what I was telling him. I guess he thought I couldn't get the heater to work because he came in and turned it on and smiled at me. Ok... I notified the front desk and they immediately sent someone up to investigate.

Overall, I'm pleased with the Warwick. My only *complaints* would be the lack of furniture on the balcony and possibly the location of the hotel. I just can't decide on whether the location is good or bad. Good, because you aren't right smack downtown with the noise and hubbub, bad because there really isn't anything "right next door". If you have a car, or don't mind walking - then I would say the location is great. All in all, I would recommend the hotel and actually am in the process of booking another stay next month when I will be in town for pleasure!

Warwrick Impressions

The Good:
The staff is terrific and very pleasant. Restaurant's food is excellent. Self-parking is very convenient and reasonable.
The Bad:
The walls are paper-thin (hear doors slamming; toilets flushing). Street noise is audible even from high floors. Not enough furniture in the oversized rooms. Small TV's for such large rooms. Balconies are carpeted and wet and mildewed. No balcony furniture.

Could be a four or five star hotel...but isn't now.

Beautiful room with a view.

from ????
Stayed from Sunday 12 Sept. 04 until Saturday 18th Sept. had a beautiful King Size room on the 12th floor. Room Service was always available if required but the restaurant on the ground floor was very good and the buffet breakfast only $12.00 per person. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Excellant swimming pool on the roof, not a lot of sun beds but we never had a problem. Car parking in the hotel only $10.00 per day. Convienient area very near the historic part plus the 16th Ave Mall. We would definately stay again.

Awful

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed on Sunday August 29th. The bed was horrible, the air conditioning did not work, room service was not available. The hotel management claimed these problems were due to the fact it was a Sunday night. Ridiculous. Horrendous and will never stay there again.

The Warwick was wonderful!

from ILUVFOOD
I was skeptical when I booked this place through AAA. I knew the location was good and the price seemed very fair....for Denver. That's what concerned me.

Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. This place was absolutely terrific. I had a huge room, the bathroom was just beautiful and the location can't be beat. I highly recommend this place. A terrific value.

great location, wonderful hotel

from Tess23
We stayed at the Warwick in late May when in town for my daughter's dance competition. The competition was held a block away from the Warwick so the hotel was an easy choice. We live 3 hours away from Denver and stay there 4-5 times a year but had never chosen the Warwick--we won't make that mistake again. The hotel itself is lovely and sits on a tree-lined street. Rooms are spacious and slightly retro in feel but very clean and newly remodeled. Loved the wetbar in its own little lit cabinet. If I'm not mistaken, all the rooms have balconies. The rooftop pool is wonderful with both room service and bar service accessible.

One of my favorite parts of the Warwick was the convenient self-parking in back of the hotel--anyone who's stayed in downtown Denver knows what a plus this is. Can't remember how much parking was per night but it was reasonable.

The Warwick is just a few blocks away from the 16th Street Mall--you'll enter the mall near the Brown Palace, if that helps with logistics.

Top Local Tips for Denver

Local landmarks "Pete's Kitchen" is a local landmark. You may have to wait in line outside for their great breakfasts.Also. "The Tavern" is a great place to just hang out. Good food and drinks!

You don't need to drive yourself The Warwick is close enough to walk to most anything you want in the downtown area. It's about 2 blocks from the start of the 16th Street Mall RTD bus (free), the Warwick provides a ride for short trips, the Capitol is only 2 blocks away. It's all pretty close.

Try the Segway Tour A friend and I took the Segway tour of downtown Denver, which was conducted by owner Larry. It was $75 for a 2-hour tour plus training us to ride the segways. Just zipping around downtown on that segway was a blast, and Larry shares interesting historical tidbits about the town, art and architecture. We rode on a day where the temperature was in the mid-70's. Larry provided sun block, but bring your own bottled water.
