Historical Traveller Reviews of Colorado Springs Travelodge Hotel

Nice but shabby

from Chilaili
I recently stayed at this Travelodge and whilst I have no issues with our service or the room itself, the motel is in DESPERATE need of a make-over. Its location is good – right across the street from the entrance to the historic Colorado City neighbourhood – but it is also right on the main road of US-24. The motel must’ve been built in the 1950s or 1960s and evidently hasn’t been renovated since. The outside is shabby and dull and definitely needs a new coat of paint, an updated entrance and for crying out loud, put in some greenery and/or plants! It sits right in the middle of a tarmac/concrete parking lot with a clear view of a 4-lane highway. The main lobby is dated and the breakfast they offer is, frankly appalling. Weak coffee, stale bagels and donuts and flabby bacon. I don’t think it was worth what we paid for the weekend.

I would like to repeat, however, that the customer service was very good, the manageress was especially friendly and interested in us and our visit and the room was clean and comfortable. The location for Colorado City, Garden of the Gods, Manitou Springs, Seven Falls and Pikes Peak is fabulous – they are all within 10-15 minutes drive. I just think Travelodge needs to spend some serious cash on updating and revitalizing it and making it a real gem of a place.

Awful

from MadChocobo
Hands down, this is one of the WORST hotels I have ever stayed in. I hardly know where to begin--the seedy surrounding neighborhood? The slovenly, unprofessional, and uncaring staff? Perhaps the short & curly hairs I found both on the bathroom floor AND on the blankets? Let's see...

I might have been able to get past all of the many ugly, old, and unclean/disgusting features of the Travelodge Colorado Springs had I at least been able to get a good night's sleep in this dive. First of all, there is nothing but a tiny window-mounted air conditioner in the room and it was sputtering and clunking every few minutes all night as if it was about to explode or something. It took HOURS too cool the tiny room off, and was so noisy that by the time it was cool enough to sleep, it would wake you right back up! Now I realize this is Colorado and it gets pretty cool at night, but still--a room needs cool, circulating air. I would have opened the window and let nature take care of it, but, alas, there was no screen to keep out the bugs and who knows what else in that neighborhood. Awesome.

For those in the hotel who were somehow able to sleep despite the rumbling, ineffective air conditioner, lumpy pillows, and unhygienic, unsanitary circumstances, around 1:30 AM the first night I was there we got a special treat--a false fire alarm was sounded! At least this ensured that I had some company awake with me at that point. These things happen, I suppose, but they certainly shouldn't take as long to shut off as it did. If the hotel had ANY redeeming features besides a convenient location to downtown and a decent price on onetravel.com, I could let this sort of thing slide. But, all things considered, this place is a DUMP that should be avoided.

Close enough to Airport

from Oceankidz
Very pleasant front office staff, good location for an early morning run to the airport. Unfortunately we had an interleading door in our room and could hear our neighbours clearly! Comfortable beds and clean room, although the outside looks a little tired. Close to Old City and Manitou which were both fun to visit.

Great Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Loved this hotel. The staff was great, beds were wonderful, room was extremely clean, breakfast was great and having an attendent making waffels was a plus. The wireless interent was also a plus and worked extremely well. It is very close to most sites and across the street from Old Colorado City. We would definetly recommend this hotel and we would stay there again.

great stay, great room!

from sshsk
the travellodge was absolutely worth it's price. our room was large and clean. you're right next to the local attractions, marts and a starbucks. the woman at the front desk was very friendly. we will definitely stay there again!

Manager makes it great!

from casualtraveler555
This hotel, though a bit grungy and dowdy, has a terrific staff that is handled very nicely by the manager. Excellent service was always provided. The free wireless is a joke, the beds are lousy but the staff made up for it in spades. Stay here if you are on a budget & want to be treated very well.

Travelodge-great location, great stay!

from obryn_amire
Colorado Springs' Travelodge was great. We and another couple stayed for two nights. We were minutes from Glen Eyrie, a beautiful castle nestled near the Garden of the Gods, where some friends were married. We at 1:30am on Saturday morning after driving from Nebraska, and the front desk clerk was prompt about giving us our keys. Our room didn't have towels, but when the front desk heard about it, they quickly gave us plenty and admitted that this was not right. The beds were comfortable and we rested well. The breakfast was great with options of cold cereals, packaged pastries, toast, oatmeal, fruit, milk, juice, coffee, tea, and belgian waffles. An attendent was on hand to help with any needs.
We were less than 10 minutes from Garden of the Gods, Manitou Springs, and Glen Eyrie. A few blocks from the Travelodge is the Historic Colorado Springs area.
I would recommend this to those who want a nice, clean place to stay and are in Colorado for the sites and activities, not their hotel. This is not an extravagant stay, but comfortable, clean, and well-serviced. That way you can spend your money on the sites rather than on your hotel!

Travelodge-a good value

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from my stepson's wedding in Colorado Springs. For 3 days & nights we stayed a the Travelodge on Hwy 24, just across the entrance to Old Colorado City. The address of the hotel is actually Ore Mill Road, but all we can figure is that Hwy 24 used to be Ore Mill Road. We got a fabulous rate on the Travelodge website - it was only $30/night with a couple months advance notice. With the good, free continental breakfast, we could hardly lose. We found the location perfect It was close to many major attractions, Garden of the Gods, Pike's Peak and Seven Falls were ones we had time for. Also, the Old Colorado City is very quaint and the food at Bon Ton's there was wonderful. The accommodations were average, certainly not really impressive, but they were just fine for our purposes. We always look for a coffee pot in the room and there was one there. There is an indoor pool there - I can't comment on because we didn't have time to use it. The only complaint we had was that the sheets were a little threadbare. The hotel was clean though and the staff was very friendly. The continental breakfast was attended, a young girl actually prepared Belgium waffles for us! All and all, I would recommend this hotel, especially if you are looking for value.

Perfect Vacation Spot

from mgmTexas
We recently booked 3 rooms at the Colorado Springs Travelodge for a weeklong (mini) family reunion and were very pleased. Although they apologized for being short-staffed, we felt no lack and found every employee to be hard-working, friendly and courteous. They were always happy to accommodate us (extra towels, lost keys, directions, suggestions for where to dine, etc.)

All the rooms were clean, comfortable and extremely quiet. For example, coming down the hallway I could hear a baby howling (turned out to be next door to us) but as soon as I entered our room—nothing! Silence!

Although they do not advertise having internet access, there were suitable connections in all our rooms and in the hotel lobby.

This hotel is a mere 5-10 minutes drive to several major attractions (Garden of the Gods, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Pikes Peak Cog-Railway, Ghost Town,...). It is also within walking distance of the unadvertised Old Historic District, with its quaint little shops and an excellent variety of outdoor cafes and restaurants.

Our stay here allowed us to have the perfect, enjoyable and affordable vacation. I would not hesitate to come again and I strongly recommend it to others, with or without children.

t recommend the Travel Lodge

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Travel Lodge in Colorado Springs, CO, is one of the dirtiest hotels I have ever stayed in. The worst part of our one night stay was the fact that my husband woke up in the middle of the night with bed bug bites up and down the insides of his arms. He went into the restroom to see why his arms were itching so much only to find 2 cochroaches staring back at him. Furthermore, the sheets were practically see through they were so thin and the bathroom towels felt like sand paper. The wall above the shower had mold spots all over it as well. In the morning-before I had been notified that my husband had been bitten by bugs and seen the 2 cochroaches, I opted to try the continental breakfast. As I pumped coffee into my cup, the thermos made the spitting sound notifying me and the hotel employee that the coffee in that thermos was empty. Her response was "oh, we're out of coffee, there may be some in the lobby." It was 9:00 am and breakfast didn't end for another 30 minutes. We were originally scheduled to stay an additional 2 nights but opted to move to a bed and breakfast that charged us $100 more per night but provided us with a comfortable bed, clean and soft sheets and towels, and no bugs. I highly recommend if your travels take you to Colorado Springs, CO to avoid staying at this hotel.
