Best holiday ever

from A TripAdvisor Member
This was by far the best holiday I have ever been on. The hotel isn't a palace but it provides an excellent place to relax in the evenings and have fun with the familly. I stayed in a condo and the actual rooms were lovely. The snow was fantastic and there were slopes to suit everyone. first class!

In the 1970s this place was probably very groovy. It's in a good location, but it is very dated. My first impression of the complex was that I was in a Vegas casino. What I mean is that is rather dark with lots of walkways, so you never have to go outside. The ceilings are extremely low. I am 5'5" and I could hold my hand flat against the ceiling in certain places in our unit while standing flat on my feet. We stayed the first night in a one-bedroom suite in building 4. It was very strange. There was a bathtub/shower room enclosed with windows in the center of the unit. We felt claustrophobic in that unit, so we moved to a two-bedroom unit in building 2. That was much nicer. The facility itself feels like a concrete bunker. All in all, we did enjoy our time there (after we switched units). The restaurant (Spencers) was very good, and the staff was very friendly. However, we will not stay there again. (We live an hour away from Breck and the major resorts and stay at ski condos for the weekend quite often. For the money, you can do much better if you shop around for a different complex.)

We Love Beaver Run!!

We just returned from a 5 day trip to Beaver Run and we couldn't have been happier! From the second that we checked in until we checked out we were treated wonderfully. I can't imagine a more convenient place to stay for the skiing. You are right at the base of the mountain!! We would walk out of our room, ride the elevator to the a level, get in our ski locker and be on the lift in a few minutes! I was a first time skiier and my wife hadn't skied in about 10 years so we took the whole day class at the ski and ride school on site. This was a great decision. The instructors are incredible. I learned so much that day and couldn't believe how fast I picked it up. The ski school is a great idea. All the food there is incredible from the daily cookout , the copper top cafe and the wonderful Spencers rest. As said before, the lunch buffet at Spencers is great and only $10.00. A great way to refuel from a hard morning of skiing. And at night, the all you can eat Prime Rib is amazing.
I could go on and on about Beaver Run. It is a great place to stay. Our room had a fireplace and that was great at night.
Here is a tip. We rented a car from Hertz at the Denver Airport. By the time we upgraded to an AWD and took the insurance at ther insistance, we had about $600.00 in the rental car. Big mistake!! You do not need a car at all. Beaver run has a shuttle that takes you anywhere you want to go and brings you back. All you do is go to the lobby and they call the driver. He then takes you where you want to go. Then when you are ready to leave, tell the rest. or store that you need the Beaver run shuttle and they call for your pick up. It is great. The town also has a bus system that will take you anywhere also. Even to different ski areas if you like. To get from the Denver airport right to your resort and back to the airport for your departure, you can get a shuttle from Colorado Mountain Expess ( you can't post the website here so you can call the resort and they will give you the number). The cost is $58.00 a person one way. If we would have known this we would have done it this way and saved about $400.00. Besides that they gave us a Suburu Outback and it stunk!!
If you are considering this resort, DO IT!! Everything about it is great. We are already planning to go back next year. The only change is that we will not rent a car next time, we will take the Colorado Express shuttle from the airport.
Thanks Beaver Run for a great vacation.

Everything you need in one place

We just returned and had a wonderful time and were so glad we stayed right on the slopes instead of in town like we did last year. It was so convient to be able to rent and store our equipment, drop our kids at ski school, and buy any incidentials we forgot all at one place. One of our favorite parts of the resort was Spencer's for the buffet lunch. We would all ski hard in the morning, meet at lunch buffet, refuel on the hot soups and gourmet food, and return to the slopes in record time. The hot tubs were also great to sit in after a long day in the snow to unwind and meet our fellow travelers in the warm water as the snow fell on our heads.
The staff at the resort could not have been better. From housekeeping coming back to clean after we napped to the shop keepers helping finding us socks for our little one, we were very impressed. We got a great deal by booking far in advanced and saved money by eatting dinner in the room. We will definately come back again.

Best Location

A group of 7 of us stayed at Beaver Run Resort last week (26th Jan 05 - 5th Feb 05) and we were split up to two rooms in totally different parts of the hotel (one in building 2 the other in building 4) which was a burden all holiday! The room i stayed in had 2 double beds, shower and TV- pretty basic but it did the job. I was dissapointed with it though in comparison to the room the other 3 had- a studio. This was located in building 4 (probably the best building to be in) and was of a far better standard than our room so i would advise paying the little extra.

The hot tubs are located near building 4 and really help soak the sore muscles after a days snowboarding and it's great that they're out in the open. I would try to avoid the 4 o'clock rush hour though as they get a bit crowded (there are 6 hot tubs in total- accomodating about 6 people comfortably in each).

The restaurant 'Spencers' is perhaps the hotels best feature. The buffet breakfast is reasonable value and the dinner selection is excellent. The staff were always friendly and helpful and the decor was tasteful and warm. Do visit the cute little bar inside Spencers if you want something a little more classy than Tiffanys sport bar.

We ate out in town pretty much every night and got the free shuttle from the lobby to town. The bus drivers always drop you off right outside whichever restaurant you want AND will pick you up as well when you're finished (just call the number they give you). This was an excellent service that came in great use after a big steak dinner and the drivers were all very friendly. It seems everyone wants to eat around 6pm and few places let you reserve a table so your best chance is to turn up around 8pm wherever you want to go. I would definately recommend 'Salt Creek City' of 'Bubba Gumps' but there is lot's of choice.

The rooms in general need some TLC and updating. Some are quite hard to find through the maze of buildings and can be a good 5 minute walk from the main facilities.
It can't be beaten on location for the slopes though. The bottom of peak 9 is literally on your door step and the ski lockers are conveniently located here too (although a little small for 4 peoples' equipment).

I will be going back to Breckenridge as the resort is amazing, lots and lots of great slopes and a picturesque friendly town to match.

Like a prison block

You cannot beat the location, but that is the only positive. If you have the misfortune to be allocated a room in block 2 or 3, don't even bother going to your room as it is a depressing journey through dirty, tatty corridors. The whole place needs a fortune spending on it to bring it up to the standard you would expect from the price charged.

Beaver Run Resort - good value - fantastic location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Have just returned from a fortnight at the Beaver Run Resort - luckily we opted for a Deluxe Studio which was good for two people. Don't know how four people would have fitted into the Studio.
Make sure you get a room in building 4 - best location with swimming pool and hot tubs and ski in/ski out location - by far the best building to be located in.

Not enough storage space in the appartments for ski clothing, no place to hang snowy ski suits to dry. No facilities to dry boots overnight.

Views fantastic. All the furniture was a bit run down and needed updating and beds needed an overhaul - but for the money to be located right on the slope was great - overall we had a lovely ski holiday.

Beaver Run free bus service in and out of Breckenridge was a God send for aching legs every evening.

Great Location

Stayed at Beaver Run Resort 1/3/05-1/7/05. Stayed in a Colorado Suite in Building 4-great room with fireplace, kitchenette, and separate bedroom. We literally walked outside our building and were on the slopes. If you are looking for a luxury hotel/condo, this is not it...but if you want a clean, nice hotel/condo with good service and a great location this is the place. We will definitely be staying here again next year.

Great ski in/out location

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and 9 yr. old stayed at the Beaver Run end of March to beginning of April 2004. We booked through the Breckenridge Ski area website so check-in was at the real estate agency not the front lobby, which is strange. Their instructions were if you have any issues or need anything, they would be the front desk, not to contact the front lobby for any reason. We did and when we called, we received prompt service for a small maintenance issue and an extra humidifier (absolutely necessary at that altitude). So they were responsive. The resort is a bit older but was clean and ultra convenient to the slopes. Building 4 is the closest to the Peak 9 superquad. Roll out of bed and onto the slopes. Great for breaks as well as breakfast and lunches in if you are looking to save some $$. Resort has everything you need from two great pools, jacuzzi, market, souvenier shops and Spencer's Steakhouse which was excellent. You can walk or shuttle to the great village at night where there are all kinds of stuff to do. As for Breck? What can you say, a fantastic reosrt mountain. Even with lower snow totals in 2004, the mountain had plenty to offer for all levels. Weather is warm that time of year and please, use sunblock. Saw plenty of people with such bad sun poisoning they required medical attention and ruined their vacation. The room we had was a suite with a queen bed and pull-out sofa. Clean, neat and fine. This is not a luxury place but the location far outweighs any luxury amenity as far as we're concerned. Would return without any hesitation but would pack extra decongestants and PM sleep aids at that altitude, sleeping is a chore at times. But the hotel was great.

Enjoyed every day!

Perfect setting for our family's get-a-way. First impression was awesome. The lobby is beautiful and front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was very nicely decorated and recently updated. From what I understand, all the rooms have all been renovated in the past year...no complaints here. Food was very good and our servers were always very nice and efficient. The area acitivities can not be beat. Rafting, shopping, biking, hiking and Alpine Slide was a lot of fun! At the hotel we relaxed by the pool and were impressed with the huge video arcade for our kids rignt in the hotel. I loved it!...we already plan to return a couple of times to ski this winter. I definitely will recommend Beaver Run to my firm for upcoming conferences as they also have a large and impressive conference center which I was not aware of.

Top Local Tips for Breckenridge

Day trip to Vail Make sure you take at least a day trip to Vail, amazing sking, Breck is pretty good but Vail is in a different league.

Great Restaurant Make sure that you try "Motherloaded Restaurant" on Main Street - excellent food, good value, lots of young and energetic wait-staff. Our teenage son (who is SOOO picky about his food) loved it so much that we ate one lunch and two dinners there. The food and wine selections were excellent.

steaks and ribs Great place to get a steak and some great ribs at a great price is the "Salty river" Great time too
