Great base camp for LA sight-seeing!

The Travelodge Santa Monica Pico Blvd is the perfect low-cost hotel to stay if you have a car and plan to see the sights of LA, Santa Monica, Malibu, Anaheim, Venice Beach and other sights in the area. LA is a short 30 minute drive (obviously not in peak hour!) and it's only 1 hour from Anaheim.

The rooms are clean and operational, and the free breakfast is a great and easy way to start the day. The also have laundry facilities available which is really useful for long-time travellers.

We booked throught Travelocity and had no problems with our booking.

My only disappointment with the hotel was it's proximity to Santa Monica beach. We were told by the front desk that it was only a 20 minute walk - but it took us at least 45 minutes. We later found out it was over 4 miles to the beach! This can be overcome if you have a car, or you can also catch the local bus that runs down Pico Blvd.

I'd recommended staying here if you want simple cheap accommodation that is central to the sights and beaches of LA.

This hotel was perfect for our trip. We spent 2 nights at the Santa Monica Travelodge on Pico Blvd. and were very pleased with our stay. We looked for a reasonably priced hotel in a safe area and we found it. This is a great place to stay if you aren't planning on spending much time in your room. Although the room is small, the beds were comfortable, the rooms were very clean, and our family of 4 had a nice stay. It was close to the beach, downtown, and not too far from some great museums in downtown LA. The continental breakfast wasn't bad either. The hotel staff was very prompt to our requests and were very pleasant to deal with. This hotel certainly isn't fancy, but it is well kept. Overall, if you are looking for a decent hotel at a reasonable price, we strongly suggest the Travelodge.

Good value hotel for an economy price in Santa Monica.
I stayed at santa monica pico Travelodge in May. the Room was very clean & nice. staff were helpful and courtious. overall the hotel is much nicer than most Travelodges that i have stayed in.

I stayed there from April 4-8,2005,although the hotel is not located at the main shopping area of santa monica,the neighbourhood is peaceful and quiet.The room is clean,staffs are friendly,the thing I like the most is the countyard with gas BBQ.

I stayed here in March 05 for 7 nights and found it to be excellent value for money. The room, kitchen area and bathroom were super clean and spacious for a motel. Parking, breakfast and local calls are included in the price, the service at the front desk and the housekeeping were very helpful and nice. Would recommend to stay in the courtyard building, since it has a security door, which needs to be opened by room-key. I'll definitely stay there again.

Good value for LA

This Travelodge may not be in the best location (you can't really walk to anything and the beach is a car ride away), but it is really good value for money. The rooms were spacious and spotless and the staff were pretty friendly. As long as you have a car (and let's face it, in California, it's a must!) I would recommend it for budget travellers.

However, I can't help mentioning two things: the first is the fantastic, but very pricey Itallian restaurant over the road (the wine list was mre of a book); the second is re LA itself. Why on earth would anyone go there? It's grim. The pollution is so bad it hangs over the whole area like a thick brown blanket. I couldn't even see the beach it was so bad. It made breathing difficult. And this wasn't even in summer! I would avoid the place at all costs. I couldn't wait to leave and head up the coast.

Good deal for the money. The room was clean and had plenty of amenities. The staff was friendly. The location is great! Everything we wanted to see was a short driving distance away.
We stayed 3 nites. The last nite we stayed, there was a lot of noise from the outside patio. Also, whoever was in the room above us was stomping around.
I'd stay again, but I'd ask for a room on the 2nd floor. That way I'd be away from the patio area and without the possibility of someone stomping around overhead. (the hotel only has 2 stories)
Overall, very pleased. Would certainly recommend this to others and I will stay there next time I'm in the area!

Motel nice, but has some problems

Motel was nice, but needs better soundproofing between rooms, especially the plumbing. Free breakfast provided, but the room where it was provided is too cramped and small.

We stayed here in September for 3 nights and found it to be excellent value for money. It was very convenient to Santa Monica, Hollywood and Venice Beach. The room was large and clean, with a lovely big bathroom. We always found parking no trouble and the free breakfast was very nice. There's a great Mexican restaurant called Lares just a few mins walk down the road-great cocktails and huge steaks!

Stayed here in August and found it clean, spacious, friendly and comfortable. Breakfast is good, and it is very convenient for Bel Air, Hollywood etc but also for the beaches and the boardwalk.

Top Local Tips for Santa Monica

Some must do things Hiring a car is a must - there's so much to see and although public transport is good and frequent there's nothing like being able to just pop to wherever you want to go. Try the British Pub in Santa Monica - Ye Olde Kings Head - great food and good service. Driving up and down the Pacific Coast Highway is great fun - both directions from Santa Monica - so much to see!! A visit to the UCLA campus is delightful - great buildings and a super setting.

santa monica pier take the time to wander the pier and check out the artists. We had our picture drawn by the characturist (?) and were entertained and pleased with the results. Funnel cake was a new treat and right beside the pier is Muscle Beach - a must see for the guys to play and for the girls to see the guys playing! It is like a kids playground that is built for adult use so the big boys can show off their muscles and get some extra exercise.

Venice Beach Its a must see if you are in Santa Monica, just for the sheer eccentricity!
