Perfect location

We stayed here in Jan 2004. Our children aged 10 and 13 loved it here because it was so close to all the attractions of the 3rd St Promenade and the beach. They swam in the pool everyday even though it was winter. Great breakfasts and had delicious food in room one night. The beds and pillows were heaven. Our room wasn't big but for the price we were thrilled. Definitely recommend. santa Monica to us is the ideal place to stay when visiting LA.

Old Hollywood retreat.

Another fine Fairmont Hotels property. Rich history of Hollywood stars hiding from the press in the bungalows, which have patios overlooking the garden; nice views of the ocean from the upper floor suites; great location for Santa Monica Pier and downtown shopping; yes the rooms and suites are small but very nicely appointed and comfortable.

Lovely hotel in an ideal location

Wonderful hotel in an ideal location across from the beach, also near to the pier and shops. We stayed here for three nights in December. Our room in the tower building was a bit small for a family of four, but would be quite adequate for two. The decor and comfort more than made up for the lack of space though! Parking is quite expensive, as are food and drinks. We found several restaurants nearby to eat out, which made this hotel more affordable for us. If you are looking for a hotel thats a little bit special then choose the fairmont! We would definately stay here again!

The Fairmont is an Amazing Hotel, admittedly it is expensive but it gives you all the service and luxury a hotel at this cost should. Far better than hotels of similar price i have stayed in in New York and San Francisco.The rooms are very spacious, as are the bathrooms with both bath and shower. There is a large lobby with bar and food available. Friendly staff and helpful concierge. Beautiful decor, clean and near to all the sights and shops of Santa Minica, v near the pier also. Highly recommended.

Visited the Fairmont for a conference in April 2003 and was very impressed by the rooms and conference facilities. Gorgeously decorated accomodations, enormous sea-view balcony, excellent location, great food and attentive staff. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Santa Monica.

Great amenities and relaxing atmosphere

We stayed at the Miramar this fall and had a wonderful time. The hotel is a little oasis of luxury set apart from Santa Monica but still within walking distance of the mall and beach. We were there on a combination of business/vacation and impressed by all the great touches that make traveling a pleasure - high speed internet, full spa facilities, outdoor lounge, nicely stocked refrigerator, ocean views (in the tower). The landscaped grounds I think are what make this place seem set apart from the hubub of the city, and the spa & gym facilities were clean, underutilized, and well appointed. The restaurant was also excellent and also not very crowded. With the exception of the restaurant and spa staff (who were very personable), the hotel staff is not necessarily the most outgoing, but they were professional and curteous.

We'd recommend this place to anyone who wants to spend a little more for those special extras, without breaking the bank. The fall special deal (one night free out of free) made the hotel equivalent to less expenses places that just can't match the Miramar for oceanfront luxury. We usually stay in West Holywood when in LA but the Miramar and its convenience to the highway makes Santa Monica a real option.

Long weekend with a 3yo

We stayed in a bungalow room near the pool. Overall the hotel was very nice. The benefits were -- very nice accomodations. Room was big, and the private garden patio was a nice way to enjoy coffee, newspaper, and books. -- food was excellent, but very expensive -- service was excellent from the first moment we arrived to the time we left -- location to shopping and restaurants.

On the negative -- the walk to the beach and the pier was 5 blocks, and took 15 minutes. This would be fine if you didnt have a child, or a lot a stuff to carry. If your main goal is the beach then an hotel closer to the sand would be a better choice. For the first timers, the beach is actually across the Pacific Hiway below the cliff, so you have to find one of the pedestrian crossings. -- no beach towels. Gee for the rate we paid I would have expected towels and lotion. -- no wireless internet in the room, although they had it in the lobby. Didnt try it.

We found the hotel in a good location for a variety of activities in Santa Monica. The 3rd street promenade was fun at night, and very close to the hotel.

An Englishmans expectations excelled

The Fairmont Miramar Hotel in the flesh far exceeds the web page marketing insights provided by even the most conscientious reviewers. We, a family of four with two teenagers, had a great four day stay at this hotel and were delighted at the quality of rooms. service and the facilities offered by the hotel. We got a deal for a Pallisades suite which came in at $309 per night mid August which was fabulous. This hotel is genuine good quality and is willing to negotiate over rates so don't fold at the first bottom line. Many hotels look and sound platable on the internet but turn out to be a disappointment. Not so the Fairmont Miramar hotel. We are pretty fussy and couldn't fault the place. The food is a little pricey but good and the proximity of Santa Monica dining, 5 minutes stroll away meant that we had the best of a rich variety of affordable but interesting and varied quisine. Tried the Ocean Restaurant on the ocean promenade 500 yards from the hotel which was very good especially the atmosphere. Overall I fail to see how anyone could be less than completely satisfied with this tremendous gem in a competitive sea of mediocre chain hotels. We explored LA, including Hollywood. Beverly Hills, the whole gambit based in Santa Monica and it was delightful to be by the sea in such a comfortable haven. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone without hesitation.

Very comfortable hotel in good location in Santa Monica. We stayed in a modern tower room which was very comfortable but small - the bathroom especially was tiny. Service good.

Great hotel!

In July, my husband and I stayed here for a little over a week with our 7 month old daughter. We had a suite in the ocean tower with 2 balconies, each with an incredible view of the ocean. The suite was beautifully appointed and the maid service was outstanding every day (traveling with a baby you really appreciate that!). The location of the hotel is ideal--walking distance to anywhere in Santa Monica! We had a car as we were visiting friends around the area, but if you were just coming to relax, you would be fine without a car.

The pool area was great and the hotel has a terrific lounge with a Koi Pond. We had lunch in the restaurant and while it was pricey, the food was excellent. They also have a nice little gym--the equipment is pretty outdated, but it was well kept and definitely enough to get in a decent workout.

We would definitely stay here again. It was fantastic, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the hotel is extremely clean and well maintained, and although expensive, it is not nearly as much as some of the other Santa Monica hotels (I.e. Shutters & Loews).

Top Local Tips for Santa Monica

Don't Miss the Getty The Getty Museum in LA is a must-see on a trip to Santa Monica. Take a free gallery tour, spend some time in the gardens, and be sure to make a reservation at "The Restaurant" for a wonderful lunch or snack.

The THIRD STREET PROMENADE and the Ocean Avenue Along the THIRD STREET PROMENADE (the 3rd Street stretch between Wilshire and Broadway) you will find plenty of excellent choices for lunch, dinner and shopping. It's very nice for walking around. Ocean Avenue is also great. Santa Monica has a large homeless population, but is quite safe (the northern part of town is somewhat safer than the southern one, around Pico Blvd, where some gang activity is been known to occur, especially east of Lincoln Blvd). The city has also a large homeless population. As usual, they're completely harmless (at least the vast majority). They're just people that unfortunately got struck in the wrong side of the tracks. No one deserves that.

3rd Street Take a brief walk for lots of restaurants and cafes. Avoid the over priced breakfast in the hotel.
